Embers
Foolishly Completely Falling
Three hours later, Harry and the boys had an interview.
Luke, Calum, Mikey, and Ashton had to head off for a movie premier.
Leaving me, Zoey, and Jaylee to fend for ourselves.
I smiled at Jaylee, then looked up at Zoey. "Do you just wanna go crash at my place? We could watch a movie."
She looked like she was about to reply when her phone started ringing. A frown found her lips, and she held up her finger. "I gotta take this....Mom?"
Jaylee looked at me. "Do you have Frozen?" she asked, smiling happily.
I smiled back at her bubbly behavior. "If we don't, Netflix should, love."
She giggled and jumped up, weaseling her way into my arms. "Why did Liam and Danielle break it off?"
I pursed my lips. "They didn't feel like it was working out the way they wanted it to. They didn't get to see each other like Harry and I do."
Her mouth formed an 'o', and she turned towards me. As if she were going to share a secret, she whispered, "Are Zo and Niall together?"
I smiled at the thought. "I'm not sure. They're cute, huh?"
Jaylee wrinkled her nose. "I prefer Zuke. Zoey and Luke."
I felt like frowning, but laughed it off. Was it that obvious that Zoey had a small crush on Luke? That a ten year old could see it?
My laughter was cut short when Zoey came in. She was smiling, but there was something wrong in her eyes.
I questioned her silently, but she shook her head. "Ready?" she asked, biting her lip.
Jaylee jumped out of my arms and ran towards the door. "Last one to the front door's a rotten egg!" she shouted, giggling.
Zoey and I let her run off, knowing we were the only ones in the studio. "What's up?" I asked, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
Zoey ran a hand through her hair. "Mom committed suicide an hour ago...that was the police calling me. Listen, could you take Jaylee for a few days? They want me for questioning.." she trailed off, unsure of what to do.
I gave her a reassuring smile. "Of course. We have the perfect guest room for her."
Zoey nodded and sighed. "I need to book a flight.." she mumbled, squeezing her eyes shut for a second. When they opened again, they were tinged pink around the edges. "And I need to text Niall...after his interview."
I nodded and rubbed her back slightly. "If you need anything, just call, okay? I'll get one of the body guards to go with you...probably Jamie...the fans get crazy jealous, even at this stage of dating."
She nodded. "Thanks, Em."
Several hours later, Jaylee and I were watching Frozen and Zoey was packing to go to New York.
Where her mother had committed suicide.
I ran my fingers through my hair, glancing down at Jaylee. It was late, and she had to be in bed by 8:45.
It was 9:30.
...I can't be mean to cute kids, give me a break.
Sighing, I stopped the movie as the end credits began to roll. "Time for bed, babe."
She pouted, but complied and made her way into the bathroom to brush her teeth. She said a quick 'Good night' and rushed to her room.
Faintly, I heard the sound of a car door slamming.
I bit my lip and pulled my knees up to my chest. Harry walked in, quietly shutting the door behind him. He looked around before finding me on the couch, a smile forming on his lips. "Hey baby," he mumbled, making his way over and plopping down next to me.
I giggled quietly. "Shh, Jaylee's in the guest room, sleeping."
He frowned and kissed my neck, making his way to my ear slowly. I suppressed a moan. "Why's she not with Zoey?" he murmured, nipping my ear lobe gently.
I closed my eyes and concentrated on not making a sound. "Zoey had an emergency...her mum-"
Before I could continue, a scream erupted from Jaylee's room.
In an instant, Harry and I were up and rushing to her, him opening the door and me flicking the lights on while he made his way to her side. "What's wrong?"
She blinked up at him, her bottom lip quivering. "I thought I saw something in the window," she whispered, pointing to the only window in the room. "A flash."
Harry frowned and got up. I replaced his previous place while he looked out the window and cursed. "Fucking paps," he muttered, low enough for me to hear.
While he left, I stroked Jaylee's hair gently. "It's alright, babe.." I whispered, tucking her in gently. "It was probably a shooting star."
She looked unconvinced but closed her eyes nonetheless. "You and Harry will be in the room across the hall?"
I nodded. "Yeah."
She took a deep breath. "C-could you turn the hall light on?"
I gave her a reassuring smile. "Of course." Kissing her forehead gently, I got up and turned the hall light on, cracking her room door. "Good night, Jaylee."
A month passed, and the police couldn't find any evidence that Zoey's mum's death was nothing more than suicide from depression.
Jaylee still didn't know.
I sighed and rolled over, pressing my cheek against Harry's bare shoulder. He shuddered slightly in his sleep, shifting closer to me.
Even if the tests were negative, I was positive I was pregnant.
Either that, or I'd somehow caught something.
One way or another, I wasn't feeling well.
A wave of nausea hit me, and I gently pushed Harry off of me, walking weakly to the bathroom. He followed me tiredly, considering this was my fourth time doing this, and it was the middle of the night, and held my hair back as I heaved into the toilet.
Being on tour with them, a different show every other night (sometimes every night), was something that felt both familiar and hectic in a new way.
I leaned back against Harry's chest and flushed the toilet. "I should go home.." I mumbled, shivering.
Harry rubbed circles on my arms. "No, you'll probably be over it by next week.." he murmured, kissing my neck gently.
I sighed. "That's what you said last week..." I whispered.
He pulled me closer. "I'm gonna have the doctor come over...I think the tests may be wrong."
I bit my lip. "I think so, too...I looked up some pregnancy symptoms, and I've been having a lot. And my period's late."
He stiffened behind me. A quiet curse left his lips before his arms tightened around my middle. "It...it could just be late, right?"
I shrugged. "It's never been late."
I could feel his heartbeat. It was way too fast for comfort.
What if he didn't want this?
What if he...backed out?
I shook the thoughts away. "How soon will the doctor be here?" I mumbled.
Harry pursed his lips. "We have rehearsals tomorrow. He could come tomorrow, if you want?"
I nodded, sighing and prodding his arm so I could rinse my mouth.
"Well, it seems as if the hospital had your results wrong. You're about five weeks pregnant."
I sat on my bunk bed, the doctor's words repeating in my head. Five weeks pregnant. Five weeks pregnant.
The door to the tour bus opened, revealing Zoey and Jaylee, who had both done a quick shopping trip while I had my ultra-sound.
Jaylee made a beeline for the front of the bus, while Zoey made her way over to me. "Any news?" she murmured, wrapping an arm around me.
I touched my belly. "Five weeks," I whispered softly, my bottom lip trembling. "Five weeks pregnant."
I wasn't showing yet. The doctor said I had at least six more weeks before it became a problem, five if I wore skin-tight clothes or clothes that showed my stomach.
I'd have to wear baggy clothes so the paparazzi wouldn't know until the fifteenth or sixteenth week, at least.
Zoey's arm tightened, reminding me of her presence. "It'll be okay."
I nodded. "I know. He already promised that he would stay with me through it, if I was pregnant...and I am. But how did your day with Jay go?"
She smiled grimly. "I told her about mom. She took it pretty easy, I guess."
I nodded again and rested my head on her shoulder. "She'll be okay."
Zoey sighed. "Now I'm her legal guardian. Mom was the last family we had."
I pulled back. "Hey, no. You've got me, Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn, and Louis-"
She cut me off with a look.
"Okay, maybe not Lou, but you've got us! Louis could be her playmate...he's still immature enough for that, right?"
She smiled slightly. "Yeah, I guess."
I giggled and looked forward. Between our drama, we could write a novel.
Damn good thing nobody's doing that. (A/N: haha...right xD)
The door opened again, this time revealing the boys. Zoey patted my shoulder in a comforting way, then headed off towards the front to cuddle with Niall while Harry beelined it for me.
"What did the doctor say?"
I bit my lip and tugged him down next to me. "Five weeks," I murmured, my heart thumping. "I'm five weeks pregnant."
Harry's breath hitched. "He's sure?"
I nodded. "I have the ultrasound with me, now. Do you want to see our baby?" I whispered, grabbing the yellow envelope behind me.
Harry swallowed and nodded, wrapping an arm around my waist.
My hands shook as I pulled the paper out of the envelope, pointing to my little blip. "It's too early to know if it's a boy or girl...or how many. But he's sure there's only one. He's coming back in five weeks to make sure, though."
Harry took the ultrasound from me, staring intently at the paper. "We did this."
I fidgeted nervously. His expression was completely blank.
"We made this baby." A slow smile formed on his lips, and I let out a relieved sigh. "We made a baby."
I smiled, resting my head on his shoulder. "You're not...mad?"
He turned towards me. "How could I possibly be mad? You're pregnant, babe...that's amazing."
I giggled and pulled his head down, pressing a kiss to his lips. "There's five to six more weeks before I'm really showing."
He smiled and looked back at the ultrasound. "Pregnant."
I smiled. "I was reading fanfictions earlier, about you and a girl having a baby...and I just think the name Darcy's a bit mainstream, ya know? Maybe Haven Darcy Styles? Or Luke Ryland Styles?"
Harry was quiet for a moment. "As long as her name has Darcy, I'll be fine," he murmured, pulling me closer. "And I think it's a boy."
I giggled. "Why not a girl?"
He shrugged. "I just have this feeling."
Five weeks later, I was staring at the mirror in my and Harry's hotel room, at my mini bump. "Haz?"
His head popped in view, and he walked behind me. "What's wrong?" he murmured, fingers splaying out along my belly.
I sighed and leaned back against him, uncaring that I only had a bra and panties on. "Look.." I mumbled, moving his hands to my hips. I lightly traced the top of my stomach. "There's...there's a bump."
He smiled at me through the reflection, moving his hands back to cover my bump. "I love you so much."
I giggled and turned around. "Sooner or later, we can't even hug right...my belly will be too big," I whispered, wrapping my arms around his neck.
Harry smiled and held me closer. "Well...then get used to behind held."
I smiled back, resting my head on his shoulder. "We need to tell Modest, and Jaylee."
He swayed back and forth for a few seconds. "Modest can wait. It won't kill them. Let's tell Jay over our 'lunch date', yeah?"
I nodded and untangled myself to get changed. Jaylee had decided Harry and I were too serious and invited us over for tea.
An hour later, we were ready and headed over next door. Jaylee opened the door and ushered us in, showing us to the tea set. "Please take a seat."
I giggled at her formality, sitting next to Harry. "Thank you, Jay."
She nodded. "So how was your day?" she asked, pouring 'tea'.
I smiled. "It was fine. Harry and I want to tell you something though."
Jaylee looked up. "What?"
I took a deep breath. "I'm pregnant."
Slowly, a grin made its way onto her face. "How long? Is it a boy or a girl?" She fired off with the questions, her tea party completely forgotten.
Harry laughed. "She's just over two months along, and we're not sure yet. We have to wait til the doctor comes later today to see if it's just one, and another month before we know the gender."
Jaylee squealed. "I wanna tell Zoey!"
I giggled, not even bothering to tell the little girl her sister already knew as she rushed into the other room.
"Twins."
I blinked at Dr. Trevor, Harry's private doctor. "Twins?" I asked, gripping Harry's hand.
He nodded. "Twins. See those two bubbles? I'll show you one, then the other."
I bit my lip to keep the smile in as he moved the ultrasound thingy around on my stomach.
"Here's baby A..." Dr. Trevor drifted off for a second, making sure we saw the baby. "And here's baby B."
Baby B was slightly smaller than A. That's how we could tell them apart.
I looked up at Harry and smiled, my vision slightly blurry. "Twins. We're having twins."
He smiled at me and pressed a chaste kiss to my forehead before walking around the corner with the doctor as the ultrasounds printed. I wiped the goo off my belly and sat up, tugging my shirt down.
I was ten weeks pregnant with twins.
Excitement bubbled up in me, and I let out a girly squeal before grabbing my phone. I knew the boys were waiting in Zoey's room, probably having a tea party with Jaylee.
She answered on the first ring. "Emmy? Is everything alright?"
I took a deep breath to calm myself. "Yeah. Are the boys with you?"
"Yeah. Luke, Calum, Mikey, and Ashton are here, too."
I smiled. "Perfect. Can ya put me on speaker?"
"Yeah, sure. Alright. What's up?"
I looked up as Harry and Dr. Trevor walked in. "I'm pregnant with twins."
Silence.
I started to wonder if it was a good idea to tell them before a scream made me flinch back. "Ow! Zoey!"
"I'm coming over right now. The boys are coming too."
I giggled and hung up, getting up and throwing my arms around Harry's neck. "I love you," I whispered, standing on my tip toes to kiss him.
Harry smiled and wrapped his arms around my waist while Dr. Trevor packed his equipment up. He gave Harry a curt nod before walking out, only to be replaced moments later by the boys, Zoey, and Jaylee.
We were having twins.
