We accept the love we think we deserve.
Kaleeh
I took Kaylee downstairs to her basement. This was also her family room, where all the movies and ice-cream were. I laid out a spread of movies and told her to pick one.
With a sniffle, Kaylee picked out a horror movie. Then she took a comedy. Not a Rom-com, but I think it was a comedy like The Hangover. I let her choose the one that she wanted to watch first.
“The Horror one, because I still think I want to sleep tonight and watching the comedy one after will let me go to bed with funny thoughts and I want to go to bed smiling.” she said. I laughed and went into a closet and pulled out two fuzzy blankets. Kaylee popped the DVD into the DVD player and I picked out ice-cream flavors. I knew my way around Kaylee’s house almost as good as Kaylee did. Then I went upstairs for a little while to make some popcorn. I think the name of the horror movie was The Woman in Black. I heard it was really scary.
When the popcorn was done, I came back downstairs. Kaylee was under her blanket with a chocolate tub of ice cream open and already half-eaten; she used a huge spoon and was still shoveling it in almost mechanically. I put the bowl of popcorn right next to her and sat down under my own blanket. The main screen was on the T.V. and I pressed play. Realizing that I needed ice-cream to complete this picture, I rushed to get some and came back with the most fattening flavor I could find. As the opening scene finally started, Kaylee gave sniff and took a shaky breath. She was still crying, but silently now. Hopefully this movie is scary enough to take her mind of Makus. I was hurting to see her hurt.
