Over Again
Asthma
Gracie looked up at me, letting go of of my shirt she had clutched in her hands. "Sorry," she says quietly. I nod, standing up and holding my hand out to her. She takes it reluctantly, and I pulled her up.
Her cheeks were stained with dried trails of tears, but she washed her face up in the pond. (Don't worry, it's clean.)
We start to walk away from our place, but we're silent. I wonder what she's thinking about. "I'm sorry about freaking out on you," she apologized.
"I should be sorry. That was inconsiderate, and I should have told you earlier." She put her head on my shoulder as we walked. I knew she was smiling, even though I couldn't see her.
