The Bodyguard.

Chapter Four

Morning sex. It leaves you calm and relaxed for the rest of the day. I love it. Thankfully, Harry loves it just as much. I'm still trembling from the second round we just did.
“Good morning to you too.” Harry says, breathing heavily. I laugh. “What time is it?” Harry looks at his phone, “Just about 12:30.” I sigh, “I should probably take a shower.”
I walk over to the bathroom door and stop before entering, “Are you coming?” I ask Harry, sending him a flirtatious smile. He grins and bolts out of bed, chasing me into the bathroom.

“Harry, can you zip me?” I ask. He zips me up and wraps his arms around me after. We're standing in the bathroom, my hair still wet from our shower. He sighs and rests his chin on my shoulder. “I wish you could stay another night.” His green orbs staring at me through the mirror. I'm digging in my clutch for my makeup. “Wouldn't that kind of ruin the concept of a one night stand?”
“I don't give a fuck.”
This blatant statement catches me off guard so I look at Harry in the mirror. He's pouting, his bottom lip sticking out and everything. I giggle and face him. I take his pouting lip between my teeth and pull on it. We make out for a minute before I pull away with a sigh. I brush my hand through his curly hair and admire his beautiful eyes, his adorable dimples and heart-melting smile.
“I don't want to leave either.” I admit to him.
“I like you,” Harry tells me fearlessly. I smile, “I like you too.” He kisses me a few times before staring into my eyes and telling me without a doubt in his mind, “We will meet again, Rose.”
As I hug him, I'm not sure if I believe him or even if I want to see him again. Running into a one night stand on the street or in a restaurant is awkward. That's if he even remembers me, he is famous after all. Which makes me start to wonder if he acts this way with all of the girls he fucks.
Dude, shut up. He's not your boyfriend, you don't even know his last name.
“We better get going,” Harry mumbles. I nod in agreement and finish my make up as he finishes getting dressed.
We go out the back door of the hotel and into the black car from last night, Harry telling the driver where we need to go then putting up the black shield to give us some privacy. We cuddle the entire ride and don't say a word to each other. We pull up behind the Jeep and of course Abby is already there waiting.
We both sigh in sadness, “I'll see you later, Rose.” Harry says, reminding me we will see each other again. “Yeah, see you.” His words might be saying see you later, but he kisses me like he's saying goodbye.
I shoot him a final smile before getting out of the car and getting into the passenger side of the Jeep with Abby. She's sporting a pair of sunglasses and clutching her coffee for dear life, she clearly has a much worse hangover than I do.
“You look like shit,” I tell her straight up. She flips me off and starts the car, “It was totally worth it. How did your night go?”
I smile and blush at the memories, “It was amazing.” Wrapping Harry's hoodie closer to me, I prepare for the drive back to the Academy, wishing I was still wrapped in Harry's arms.

~The next day.~
When we returned to the Academy, I was given orders that I would be on a flight to California by one in the afternoon the next day. After three years, I was going to see my family. The last time they saw me I was going through withdrawal and I was more than a little pissed that they were sending me away. Now I'm thankful for it. They tried to contact me over these past three years, but I never responded. At first it was because I was still angry, but then my reasoning was that I didn't want to speak to them until I had my life back together. I was broken, still am, but I'm better now. I'm mostly nervous about seeing Cassie again. She's my adoptive sister, but she has been my best friend since I was a baby. When my parents died, her parents adopted me. I had no family members that would take me in and our parents were the best of friends. I'm afraid Cassie is going to be angry at me for never responding back to her. I put her through a lot so I wouldn't blame her.
It was hard saying goodbye to Abby, but I know I will see her again. She grilled me about Harry but I left out the details. She said, “Girl, he is gonna be thinking about you for weeks.” To which, of course, I laughed and denied. I knew I would be thinking about him for weeks, though.
As I exited the plane, I get more nervous by the second. I don't even know who is coming to get me, if anyone. I hope its a chauffeur and not Cassie or her parents. I want to stall for as long as possible.
To my dismay, it's Cassie's parents, Alan and Carol waiting for me in the airport lobby. When they spot me, their eyes grow wide and their smiles go even wider. Carol embraces me first, then Alan.
“Wow, Max! You look great! We've missed you so much.” Carol gushes. I force a smile, guilt filling me for what I put them through. “Thanks, you guys look good too.” After a few uncomfortable moments, Alan takes my luggage for me as Carol leads us out of the airport and to a bright blue hummer. They ask me casual questions on the ride to the house. They tell me that Cassie is going to college at Harvard and that she is doing really well. I'm happy for her.
Once at the house, Alan takes my stuff up to my room and Carol immediately starts making me food. It's killing me how nice they are being, like I didn't even say hurtful things to them the last time I saw them. When Alan returns to the kitchen, I decide to suck it up and apologize.
“Uhm...Listen guys. I just want to apologize to both of you for what I put you through and the things I said. I'm thankful you sent me to the Academy, it saved my life. You've always been here for me and I don't think I can ever thank you enough.” I could feel my voice start to crack so I stop there. Carol stops in the middle of making me a sandwich and comes over to hug me.
“Oh, sweetie. It's okay. We love you and will stick by you no matter what because that's what family does. Okay?” I nod and hug Alan next. He doesn't need to say anything, I know he feels the same way as his wife.
Carol finishes making my sandwich and I begin eating it. I haven't had real food in forever. “Does Cassie hate me?” I ask them. “No, she's just hurt is all. She misses you.” Alan's phone rings and he takes it into the next room. I finish my sandwich and go upstairs to unpack what little I had at the Academy. My room is exactly the way I left it, except cleaner. I put on some music and start to go through my clothes. Ugh, I need to go shopping.
I go downstairs to ask if they had a box I could put my old clothes in, but stopped short when I hear them arguing. “That's not fair to her!” Carol exclaims.
“I know it's not, but I'm desperate! She's the only one I can get on such short notice. Besides, it's a good first gig.” Alan replies.
“A young man is receiving death threats and you think it's a good first job for someone right out of the Academy?”
Alan sighs, “This is a rare situation, hun, especially for a boy band. This isn't permanent unless she wants it to be.”
“She just got home, Alan. I missed her.” Carol says lighter than before.
“I know, so did I. I wouldn't ask her unless I had another choice.”
I can't stand it anymore, I need to know what they are talking about. I step into the den, “Ask me what?”
Surprised at my sudden appearance, they look at each other then back at me. “Sit,” Alan offers, gesturing to a plush chair across from them. “I know you are supposed to be able to choose who you want to protect, but something has come up and I need your help.” Alan begins.
When I don't say anything, he continues. “There is a popular boy band named One Direction, one of their members has been receiving very alarming death threats and have asked for another guard immediately.”
“And you want me to do it.” He nods.
“When do I leave?” I ask him.
“You can say no, Max.” Carol reminds me softly. I give her a small smile, “It's okay, Carol. I can handle it.”
Truth is, I don't want to be in my old house in my old neighborhood. I don't want to be reminded of how things used to be. I feel like a stranger in my own bedroom. I don't belong here.
“There's something else you should know. They are requesting that you be the kids personal bodyguard. You will help protect the whole band, but your priority is him.”
“When do I leave?” I ask him again. Carol walks out of the room then, upset.
“Tomorrow morning. They're house is about four hours away. You will be debriefed when you arrive. I suggest you get some sleep. Thank you, Max. You're really saving my ass here. This isn't permanent unless you want it to be.” I nod at him before silently walking back to my room and start repacking my suitcase. Why would someone want to hurt someone from a boy band? Are they singing about witchcraft or something?
As I finish packing and ready for bed, my thoughts drift to Harry. I miss him. He was comfortable and a nice distraction from the real world. We had a real connection, I thought.
Oh shut up, he has better things to do than think about you.
I try to keep the negative thoughts away, like my therapist at the Academy said to do, but I can't do it all the time. They sneak in there. Nevertheless, I drift to sleep thinking about Harry.

~The next day.~
“Ready, Maddox?” Carol asks me. “You know how I hate it when you call me that.” I respond to her. “Yes, I know. Now answer my question.” She demands. “Yes, I'm ready.”
We load my luggage into the Mercedes and say our goodbyes. “Text me when you have a cell phone, okay? I'll miss you sweetie, its not fair you have to leave when I just got you back.” Carol's eyes begin to water. I hug her.
“I know, but its okay, really. I'll be fine and I'll text you all the time.”
Alan hugs me next, “I entered the address into the GPS and filled the tank. Drive safe, kid.”
“I will.” I get into the car and wave to them as I back out of the driveway and begin the long car ride.

Turns out this house is in a gated community. I don't know what else I was expecting, though. Pulling into the driveway, I grab my purse and check my make up before exiting the car.
Holy shit, this place is fucking huge!
I marvel at the size of this mansion before gathering up my courage and knocking on the door. A well-built man in a black suit around 40 years old answers the door, I can tell he is a guard. “Name?” he asks.
“Max Calder.”
He opens the door wider, “Welcome.” I step inside. This place is seriously gorgeous. “I'm Jackson. I am in charge here and will be your trainer.” I shake his hand, “Nice to meet you.”
“Follow me.” He says and I follow him downstairs into a large security room.
He explains to me about the security cameras and alarms and pass codes amongst other things before taking me to a table with a bunch of files. “Have you ever heard of One Direction?” he asks me. I shake my head no, “I've been in the Academy for three years.”
“Oh, yes. That's right. Well, Miss Calder-”
“Call me Max.”
“-Max. While I am not particularly fond of previous boy bands that have made it big, I actually like these kids so I'm sure you will too. However, whether you like their music or not is of no importance to how well you do your job.”
He hands me a folder before his phone starts ringing, “Look through that, I'll be back.” I nod at him and open the folder. It begins with a picture and biography of Niall Horan, then Zayn and so on until my mouth drops at the very last picture.
Harry. My Harry.
He's in this band. Is this serious? It can't be. Can it? This is too coincidental...
I manage to pick my mouth up from the floor by the time Jackson returns. I hate to ask, but I need to know, “So, which one will I be personally protecting?”
“Harry Styles. We don't know why someone is sending him death threats, but his parents, managers, and also myself want more security for him and the rest of the boys.”
What do I do now? I can't do this job, I'd be mixing my personal life and my work life together right off the bat. What's worse is I would be too tempted to sleep with Harry again. I'm gonna have to sit and watch as he parties and flirts with girls and...
“Max? Hello?” Jackson says, snapping his fingers in front of my face.
“I'm sorry?”
He gives me a disappointing look, “I hope you don't make a habit of zoning out like that, we need you alert.”
“I'm sorry, it's been a long drive. I probably just need some rest.”
“You can do whatever you like after you meet the lads.”
“And when will that be?”
He opened his mouth to answer when suddenly the house was filled with male voices. Oh no, they're here. I'm not ready. What do I do? Act like I don't know him? I have to.
Jackson and I stand as the boys enter the room. “Hey, shut up a minute! New bodyguard is here.” As my eyes connect with Harry's, I can tell he is just as shocked as I am.

~Harry's POV~
Holy shit. Rose?
I can't believe it. Really. When she said boot camp and Academy, I never thought she meant a bodyguard academy. The thought of her actually being able to kick ass makes me laugh. And turns me on. Her face is like stone, not giving away any emotion, but her eyes are nervous as hell.
Jackson orders us to introduce ourselves and I do, even though she already knows who I am. I'm sure she wants to act like she doesn't know me, but that doesn't stop me from smirking.
“I'm Max.” She finally speaks. Max? I thought her name was Rose.
She will barely look at me. If she is my personal bodyguard now, then this will work out perfectly.(; I haven't stopped thinking about her since we parted a couple days ago. Even with the death threats, she was always on my mind. I wonder why she gave me a fake name? I quite liked the name Rose.
“Nice to meet you all, but I'm going to take a nap. It's been a long day.” At the last sentence, Max finally looks at me. I don't think she knew who exactly she was going to be protecting until a few minutes prior. Would she have declined if she did know? All I know is that I was right, we would see each other again. I just didn't think it would be so soon.
“One of the boys will show you to your room and help you with your bags, I'm sure.” Jackson hints before walking off. I was about to offer, but Niall beat me to it.
When they are out of earshot Liam says, “She is a bodyguard? I could take her down easily.”
“Maybe, but she's hot.” Zayn states.
“Watch it, you have a girlfriend.” I snap at Zayn. They both look at me weird. “I haven't forgotten.” Zayn retorts. I don't reply, ashamed of my outburst. I don't know what came over me.
“You're thinking the same thing about her, I know you are. And she's gonna be your personal bodyguard.” Liam says to me, wiggling his eyebrows. I roll my eyes, but end up laughing anyway. I sit on the couch and zone out thinking about Rose, I mean Max, and wondering what she intends to do from here.

I hope it involves the two of us in a bed.
