Almost Lover *On Hold*

Chapter 3

The second I got into the house I plopped down leaning again the door, replaying everything that just happened. “Megan!” I shouted “Aria! Gabi!”
A few seconds passed before Aria and Megan wondered into the room. “Gabi passed out like the second we came in but what?” Aria said.
I quickly explain everything that just happened leaving out the fact of my being beyond nervous and intimidated.
“So that’s why you were all over Jai?” Megan laughed.
“Shut up, I needed to prove the point.”
“That poor boy tried so hard, you should have just gave him a kiss on the cheek,” Aria peeped.
“No, no, ‘you’re not that lucky’ is so much better!” Megan said still giggling, pulling her blond hair over to cover her face like she always does when she laughs hard.
“Whatever,” I stood up starting to walk out of the room, “Goodnight.” Hurrying up the stairs to my room, trying to avoid Jai; I shut my door behind me and would’ve locked it if there was a lock. There was only on outlet in my room and it was opposite of the bed. I plugged my phone in leaving it on the floor before changing into a t-shirt and sleep underwear then curling up under the not very thick comforter of the bed. Usually it takes me awhile to fall asleep, but the second I closed my eyes I felt myself drifting away. The last thing I thought was Harry; then nothingness.

I woke up to a thud. It was still dark out and probably the middle of the night. Three more came; it was a knock on my window. I pushed myself off the bed hiding on the opposite side of the window. All I could see was a dark shadow on the other side. There was a crack of a tree branch before a voice came through, “Fuck, Emily it’s me, Harry. Open the damn window.” I hurried over to the window forcing it up.
The second it was open Harry was climbing in. He had his curls pulled back into a grey beanie and was wearing a plain white tee shirt and dark sweatpants. “What the fuck, Harry! You gave me a heart attack.”
He chuckled, sitting down on my bed, “I got bored.”
Realizing I didn’t have any pants on I pulled my shirt downward trying to cover as much as possible. I clicked the home button on my phone and it light up. 3:54am. “It’s the middle of the night,” I pushed.
“Couldn't sleep,” He shrugged. I glanced at myself in the mirror over the bed, I looked like a mess.
“Well I was asleep,” I huffed as I tried to fix my hair, running my finger though it and pulling it over my shoulders.
“So was everyone else,” He said make a not very good point.
“You could have woken up anyone else.”
“But I was thinking about you, so I woke up you,” he said with a slight smile. I felt heat rise to my cheeks from his comment.
I flipped my head over pulling all my hair into a messy bun, giving up on fixing the curls and trying to not let him see me blushing. “That’s sweet but I’m tired.”
“C’mon I came all the way over here and almost fell out of that tree just to see you; you’re really joining to make me leave already.”
Without thinking I responded, “I guess you can stay for a little.”
“Really? I wasn’t excepting that to work,” He said with a laugh.
“Well why’d you come if you didn’t except me to let you stay?”
“Oh, I knew you’d let me stay I just didn’t think you’d give up that easy,” He said with an arrogant smirk.
“You’re an asshole,” I rolled my eyes.
“But you’re not going to make me leave,” He smiled as he got up for my bed and sat down next to me on the floor letting his hand land on my bare thigh. I quickly brushed it off but the skin he touched was tingling.
A chuckle escaped his lips. “What?”
“Nothing,” he grinned and his dimples showed.
“You laughed at me.” His face was dark but his eyes were still glowing bright green. They make him look innocent. The only thing that was lighting the room was a dim lamp on my nightstand that I don’t remember turning on.
“Because you’re cute.” Butterflies stirred in my stomach as his shoulder brushed against mine.
“Mhm, I’m sure that’s why,” I rolled my eyes trying to hide my smile.
“It’s is,” He said standing up, “now let’s go.”
“Where?”
“Outside so we can see the stars, there’s like no clouds out tonight,” Harry responded as he made his way to the still open window.
While he was facing the other way I pulled on some clothes over what I already had on. “Why don’t we just use the door?” I asked as I checked my phone. Two missed called from a random number. Leaving it plugged in I met Harry who was already out standing on a branch of the huge tree on the side of the house.
“Cause you can easily get on the roof from here and there won’t be any trees blocking the sky if were up there,” He explained, “You’re not afraid of height are you?”
“You’re asking me that? Ha.” I stepped of the window onto a close branch pushing away the hand he offered me. Not as carefully as I should be making my up the branches to the roof. In less than a minute Harry and I were both laying on the roof looking up at the stars. I should be focusing on the stars, how pretty it is, but the only thing I can think about it that are arms are touching and how the moonlight makes his eyes look and how I never felt like this before- with anyone.
“How long are you guys staying here?” Harry asked breaking the silence.
“Two weeks,” I answered, “You?”
“Same,” He smiled at me then looked back at the sky. For awhile we just sat in comfortable silence. I’m sure he’s just relaxing but all I’m focused how he’s tracing circles on the back of my hand with his fingertips. Without even noticing I started humming, I always do when I get nervous and I have no idea why. “Can you sing for me?” Harry asked turning his face to look at me.
“What do you want me to sing?” I asked nervously. I’m not that uncomfortable with singing in front of my friends, but it being Harry, a guy I just met, makes me nervous.
“Whatever you were just humming,” he gave me a comforting smile. I guess he can tell I’m nervous.
“Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should have known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do”

I didn’t look at him until I finished. “You have a beautiful voice,” He pulled his bottom lip into his mouth biting down on it.
“Now you have to sing for me,” I pushed.
“Hm, maybe the night before we leave,” He shook his head.
