Almost Lover *On Hold*
Prologue
My eyes lightly burn as I blink hard, trying to stay awake. Slouching back into the velvet couch, I realized in was barely 10:00pm. “Why do I have to stay up?” I huff out.
“Because, it’s the first day of our spring break, Emily,” Megan said as she grabbed my wrists pulling me up from the couch, “and we need to make up for last year’s sucky spring break.”
She grabbed a half drank Mike’s Hard Lemonade from the counter, pushing it into the palm of my hand and telling me to drink up. I brought the bottle up to my lips, taking a gulp. It stung a little on the way down, but I assume that’s just because I’m not used to it.
The only reason I am now is because I’m with close friends and there’s no guy around so I can’t embarrass myself. Also because I feel like I owe Megan for last year.
We went to the beach with my family and my dad practically had us on a leach the whole time. So I promised her this year I’d find a way for us to go on vacation without either of our families so we could party and do what we want. To make that happen, I found this lake house that wasn’t very expensive and got two of our other friends, Aria and Gabi, and we all split the cost.
Megan and I have been friends for what seems like forever. We became friends the first day of sixth grade. I don’t really know how we became friends so quickly because we are complete opposites. She is super outgoing even if she just met a person, while I am shy except around my close friends and she doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her but I do. Another thing is she very- how do I describe this- fearful, and of course I have fears, but I’m in love with the rush of adrenaline I get when I do dangerous things. Practically the only thing we have in common is our sense of humor.
“Em, come here,” Aria called me from the other side of the room.
Aria became close friends with us last year with she was on our track team. She is really outgoing and funny; also she’s a daredevil like me.
“What?” I asked before sitting down on the floor next to her.
“Are Jai and Brandon coming here tomorrow?” She asks with her word slightly slurred.
“Yeah, unless they are waiting until Sunday to come,” I say, resting my head on her shoulder.
“Tell them to come tomorrow,” Gabi peeped in.
I’m not as close with Gabi. It’s not that I dislike her or anything I just think she kind of attention seeking, but that’s only around guys or people she’s trying hard to impress. When it’s just Aria, Megan, and I around she’s nice.
“So what’s new with you and Jai?” Megan asked as she sat down by us.
“Nothing really, still not dating, still not just friends,” I responded. Jai and I have had a thing for a few months now, but not anything real. We both find each other attractive so we kiss and stuff. Neither of us wants to date thought, because he’s funny and cool but not my type at all. He tries to act like he tough but honestly he’s the biggest push over I’ve ever met. I just don’t find that attractive.
“How are you and Brandon?” I said with a giggle to Aria.
“Oh, shut up,” She shook her head letting her long brown hair hide her face. Brandon has always had a crush on her. He’s funny and nice, don’t get me wrong, but he’s just not very attractive. Honestly, he is kind of like a brother to all of us. But on New Year’s him and Aria kissed, just because neither of them had someone else to kiss. We refuse to let it go to let that go though.
“Okay, okay, but I’m too tired to stay up any longer. I promise I will tomorrow,” I said before getting up.
Notes
The normal chapters will be a lot longer and better than this. Its just the prologue to introduce characters and stuff.
Well I hope you liked it!
