In a Heartbeat
Airplanes
I could hardly wait until the plane was in the air. I hadn't packed a carry-on, thinking that I would be sleeping for most of the trip, but seeing now that I was sitting next to a girl who was practically drooling over me, that wouldn't be possible. I was definitely going to need the distraction.
"You're Harry Styles," she said as the "buckle seatbelt" light turned on.
When the plane started moving, she said, "I love One Direction."
As the plane was leaving the ground, I turned to stare out the window. "You're my favorite," she said to the back of my head.
But I ignored her still, staring out the window at the girl sitting on top of the blue car. Melody held up her arm and waved. I held my hand to the window and wiggled my fingers back at her, knowing that even if we were still taxiing down the runway she wouldn't be able to see me. I stared out the window until I couldn't even see the airport anymore.
I held the ugly brown bag in my hands, staring at the latch.
"What's that you got there?" the creeper next to me asked.
God, she's annoying. And apparently can't take a hint. "I don't know," I replied, hoping that she'd shut up now that I'd spoken to her.
"Well, open it and find out!" she squeaked out, nearly trembling with excitement.
I rolled my eyes and put the bag in front of my feet. "No, that's okay. It's probably a Christmas present."
She slumped in her seat. and faced forward.
Thank. God.
She turned to me again and opened her mouth.
"Nope," I said before she could say anything. "Whatever it is, the answer is no."
Melody's POV
Once I lost sight of Harry, I rushed to the bathroom and pulled off my coat, then pulled it apart, revealing the lighter jacket inside. I put that on, then pulled my hat off and shoved it in the coat pocket along with my sunglasses, then walked out of the bathroom with the outside of my coat over my arm. I pulled my blonde hair free from its elastic and shook it over my shoulders to cover my ears.
I then ran outside, through the swarms of people dressed in black and holding cameras and to the car. I reached inside and turned the key in the ignition, turning on the headlights, then climbed on top of the vehicle and sat facing the runway. What I assumed to be Harry's plane (It was a Delta, so I almost instantly recognized it) turned onto the runway, and I watched it speed up, imagining seeing Harry in one of the windows, maybe sitting next to a mom and her kid. Or some friendly old guy who's going home for the first time in a decade to see the family he left behind ten years prior.
As the plane started to lift off the tarmac, I raised my arm and waved. I don't know if Harry saw or not, but if he did, I hope he waved back.
Notes
That was really short, I admit it. I'll (hopefully!) be posting another chapter tomorrow. But I just got kicked off the computer. Apparently, now my bedtime is nine. Why they're starting to enforce bedtimes fourteen and a half years after my birth makes no sense to me, but I can't do anything about it. And it sucks, because they're taking my Kindle, too. Now I won't have music. :(
Okay, that question in my last chapter. Let me rephrase that.
What's your opinion on Melody getting a tattoo? Yay or nay? Any ideas for what it should be?
I had to argue with myself in that last chapter.... I hate tea, though, so it was kind of easy. Except I really know nothing about tea except that it really does taste like pepper and the tears of small children.
HEY. Your official-unofficial announcements sadden me. No promises or not, I really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY hope you decide to eventually continue. I won't even be mad if you do a rewrite but dude, you gotta do something. I WILL DIE IF THIS STORY DOES NOT CONTINUE.
