Beautiful GoodBye

The raindrops slowly slid down the window, racing to the bottom. Hitting the bottom one after the other, they created a soft rhythm. I hummed a melody softly as I stared out the window. Today was just another day, but for me it marked an anniversary.


"Mommy." Lucy called, stumbling over to me with her arms reaching for me to pick her up.
I smiled and put her on my lap, "Are you ready for your nap?"

Lucy rubbed her eyes and that was enough for me to know that she was in fact ready to be put down for a nap. Carefully, I stood up and took her to her crib in the back of our small house. She clung to my shirt as I tried to set her down.

"Lucy darling, i'm not going anywhere. I promise."

With that, she released her grip. I grabbed her blanket and placed it over her before going back to my seat beside the window. It had been almost 4 years since I had last saw him, my cousin or any of the boys for that matter. Those 4 years have been the longest, roughest and loneliest years of my life but I couldn't stick around and ruin Harry's career that hadn't even started yet.
On the nights we spent together, he would always tell me how much he wanted to become a singer. He said he would do whatever it took to get him there, and now he's on top of the world. Deep inside, I always knew he would be famous, I just didn't know it would be so soon. The night he found out Simon was signing them, we did some things that brought me to my current situation.

A single mother living on her own.

Harry paced the room with his hands burried in his hair. I shakily placed a hand on his arm in attempt to comfort him. He quickly shrugged it off and groaned.

"Do you know what this means?"

I shook my head but inside I already knew.
"I can't be with you anymore, Marie. Do you know what the media would do to not only my image but to you and the baby?"

Tears began to form in my eyes, "Harry..."

"I care about you and I don't want to see you hurt."
"What am I supposed to do?"

"Leave. Find a place and stay there. Don't let anyone know your location and avoid going out in public. I promise I'll find you as soon as things die down." He said, wrapping his arms around me.

I burried my head in his chest and sobbed. This can't be happening, it has to be a dream.
"I love you, Marie."

"I love you too, Harry." I whispered before picking up the few things I had laying around his house.

Just before I was about to walk out the door and leave, I turned back to get one final look at him. His green eyes stared into my blue ones, glazed over with sadness. From the way he was standing I could tell her was sorry and so was I.

Time has passed and Harry never once showed up on my door step nor did he even attempt to call. He had obviously forgotten about me and our child who he knew nothing about. I assume another girl had come along and he had just simply moved on, but I still like to let myself believe he's comming back for me and that's what I tell Lucy everyday.

Lucy actually knows a lot about her father, she watches him on the TV almost every morning. She always points to his image before saying, "daddy" and smiling. Although she isn't old enough to understand what happened, I still tell her that he loves her and he'll be home soon.
Or at least I hope so.

Notes

Short chapter but I just wanted to give a little background in this chapter. The main reason I wanted to do a story about cancer is because i lost my dog about a month ago because of it. Yes, I know. It's a dog. But even though she wasn't a human, cancer affects almost everyone in some shape or form. So, that's what gave me the inspiration for this...
Fun fact: I participated in Relay For Life this year (Basically you stay up for 12 hours and raise money for cancer and remember people you've lost) and we raised 55,000 dollars towards cancer research
