I walked into the school hallways with confidence. It was my junior year, finally an upperclassman. I had changed so much over the summer, I had a new group of friends, and I was ready to take on this school year. I was your average girl. Cheerleader, ‘popular’ girl, oh so cliché. My old friends hated me now, but who needs them? This school is yours, now, Mal.
“Malory!” my best friend Claire screamed across the hallway.
We greeted each other with a big hug, exchanging schedules.
“We have English, lunch, Spanish, and PE together!” She squealed.
“Thank god.” I laughed.
“I have to go to chemistry.” She stuck her tongue out. “Great way to start the day, right? What’s your first hour?” She snatched my schedule again. “Drama?” Her nose scrunched up and she gave me a disapproving look.
I shrugged. “Easy A.”
She handed me my schedule and ran off.
Drama was way more than an easy A to me, it was my passion. But I’d never admit that to Claire, she’d die from laughing at how lame I was.
“Hey Malory.” My ex-best friend, Vanessa said. “I’m really sorry about your parents. I tried calling you… all summer. But I guess you were busy.” She said, glancing at Claire.
I shrugged at her. “Sorry, I guess I was.”
