Ordinary Girl

Encounters

As her eyes fluttered open, she winced in pain. Her head was throbbing. She tried to sit up but the boy beside her shook his head “You really shouldn’t sit up.” He put a hand on her shoulder

She blinked in confusion. Where had she seen him before? He looked so familiar but she couldn’t put her finger on it. She pushed his hand off of her and sat up. “I’m fine.”

A tall brunette boy came running down the hall “Niall? What did you do?”

Niall, still kneeling beside her looked up at him “Well, I ran into her on my down to the lobby. She hit her head. I wasn’t just going to leave her there.”

Juliet looked between the two guys. Now that her vision was fully back, she had a general idea of who they were. No way. It can’t be. It couldn’t be. But it was. It was One Direction, that famous boy band her friends always obsessed about.

Grabbing the nearby railing, she tried to stand. “I should probably leave.” She took one step, her legs wobbling. Niall caught her before she feel.

He sighed “Well, at least let us walk you safely in there?” When she nodded, the brunette boy walked over helping Niall carry her into her hotel room. The lied her down on the bed. Niall stood over her on the bed as the brunette boy started pacing

Niall flashed a smile “Are you sure you’re alright?”

Juliet rolled her eyes “Besides slamming my head into a wall and random boys in my hotel room smiling at me?” She shrugged “Sure, I’m fine.”

The brunette boy looked over at Niall “Oh god Niall, this is bad. Really bad. If the press finds out about this?”

Niall chuckled softly, watching his worried friend “Liam, you need to learn to relax, you worry too much.”

Liam stopped a second to glare, then went back to his pacing. Juliet rubbed the bump on her head, wincing. “God that hurts, how long was I out for?”

Niall shrugged softly “Not long, 5 minutes maybe?” He chuckled “I guess we’re both a bit clumsy.”

Juliet gripped the mattress as she tried to sit up “Sure, listen I’m sorry about bumping into you.” She shrugged softly. “I’m not usually a klutz, I was just avoiding someone.”

Niall smiled, a twinkle in his blue eyes. “It’s alright. Besides, I’m happy I bumped into such a pretty girl.” Liam rolled his eyes

Juliet bit her lip “Sure, anyway, thank you for helping me.” She yawned “It’s getting late, I should probably go to sleep.”

Niall stood up “Of course, well, it was nice to meet you.” He walked with Liam towards the door “I’ll ketchup with you later.” He laughed and eft the room.

Liam bit his lip, not sure what to say “Um, well I apologize for him.” He chuckled nervously. “Well, bye.” He left, shutting the door closed behind him

Juliet shook her head “It’s fine.” She shrugged “Not like anyone can hear me anyway.”

She stood up, feeling a bit woozy. Her head was pounding like a bass drum. She screamed when she heard a vibrating, then realized that it was her cell phone. “God,” she sighed softly, clutching her heart as she picked up the phone.

Looking at it, she raised an eyebrow. An unknown number. She pressed the answer button anyway, pressing the phone to her ear “Hello?”

“Where the hell are you?” the voice replied “Can’t call a girl when you skip town?”

Juliet breathed a sigh of relief. It was just Mia, her friend from her hometown. The only thing she regretted leaving behind. Unlike Juliet, Mia was very outgoing and bubbly.

Her thoughts were interrupted by Mia blabbing on. “What?”

She heard a growling in the phone “Jules! You can’t leave out of thin air and not expect a million questions from me! Where are you now? How is it? Have you met anyone out there? Any cute guys? Tell me everything.”

Juliet laughed “Mia, slow down.” She bit her lip. “I moved out of state, it’s nice out here. I’ve met a few guys, they’re alright I guess.” That’s all she mentioned. Mia was a huge fan of boy bands. If she told her the truth, well, then who knows what would happen.

Mia growled again “Fine, but I expect more details from you later girl. I have to go to cheer practice. Bye.” She hung up.

Juliet set the phone down, biting her lip, smiling to herself. Mia was definitely crazy, but she loved her. She wanted to tell her everything, but she couldn’t. What if her adopted father found out? Without realizing, she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

She awoke the next morning to the sun blinding her. Covering her eyes with her hand, she rolled over checking the time. It was 7am, way too early to be awake.

She opened her carry on and put on her only other clothes. “I have to go shopping.” She groaned. Unlike most girls, she loathed shopping. Absolutely hated it. Once she was dressed, she grabbed a wad of $500 from her bag and her cell phone.

“Where the hell is my room key?” she wondered, scanning the apartment. She had it when she bumped into Niall, but was it still in the hallway? Did he bring it in here? She still felt wobbly, hard to remember things.

As she headed towards the door to look for her key, she noticed a piece of paper that was slipped under the door. She picked it up, reading through it quickly.

Juliet,
I’m terribly sorry that I crashed into you. I didn’t mean to, but I’m glad that I did. Anyways, I was hoping I could make it up to you. I know a lot of good jokes. If you ever want to meet me for Starbucks sometime to hear some, let me know?
Room: 407
Sorry Again,
Niall (and Liam says he’s sorry too)
PS – I left your room key on the desk in your room

Juliet stared at the note blankly, reading through it once more to make sure she understood correctly. Niall? Coffee?

WHAT?!

This wasn’t happening, this couldn’t happen. She couldn’t get attached to anyone, or anything. For all she knew, she would have to leave here soon.

Grabbing her key off of the desk, she left her room, shutting the door. She glanced down the hallway. Niall or Liam weren’t out yet, nor was the counter guy. She sighed in relief and walked to the elevator.

She tapped her foot impatiently once again until she finally reached the lobby. As she looked around, she noticed tourist pamphlets against the wall. She picked up a map of Los Angeles as she stepped outside, letting the sun hit her skin. She loved that feeling on her bare skin.

People greeted her as she walked down the street. It was strange, she wasn’t used to people noticing her and she really disliked it. But, she could learn to live with it, as long as she didn’t draw too much attention.

She unfolded the map, looking around the streets. She just wanted to find a place to go shopping. On her journey, she ran into Capitol Records Tower.

She couldn’t believe it. Capital Records, the place where so many of her favorite music stars were recorded and published. Getting to record and sing there would be a dream come true for her, besides finding her real parents.

Not being able to resist, she stepped inside the building. It was so sleek and modern. Sleek furniture, bold colors, it looked a lot like a coffee shop.

The woman behind the counter glared at her, clearing her throat “Can I help you, little girl?” She giggled at her own joke.

Juliet just rolled her eyes, walking over to the counter. “Um, sorry, I was wondering if the tour was still open.”

The woman tapped her keyboard hurriedly, then groaned “Well, lucky you. There’s still a spot open. They’re right over there.” She pointed her claw towards the direction of the tour.

Juliet nodded “Thanks,” rushing quickly to join the tour.

The guide, a much more polite woman, smiled “Alright, we all ready?” The group nodded as she led them through the building.

It was better than she had ever imagined. So fascinating, so full of history. The tour guide led them into a recording studio. “Alright, this is one of our many recording studios, used by various celebrities to record the music we listen to today.”

The crowd oohed and ahhed, causing the guide to smile “Alright, let’s head to the break room, if you’ll follow me.”

But Juliet didn’t hear. As the others left the room, she walked to the sound board, fascinated by the technology. This was a real, legit recording studio. It was better than she ever imagined.

Curious to hear what she sounded like, she walked into the booth, standing beside the microphone. Her heart hammered in her chest. Every instinct inside her screamed to leave the room before she got caught. But she couldn’t pull away.

She took a deep breath and started to sing “Because of You” by Kelly Clarkson.

“I lose my way and it’s not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry, because I know that’s weakness in your eyes
I’m forced to fake a smile, a laugh every day of my life
My heart can’t possibly break when it wasn’t even whole to start with
Because of You-----“

She trailed off, hearing the door opening. Crap! Someone had found her. She would be so screwed. They’d probably ban her for life. Her heart was pounding in her chest. How was she going to get out of this mess?
