Unrequited Love
Chapter 3
After her first day at school was done, she to the front of the school and noticed Harry sitting under a tree. She walked over to him and sat down next to him. He was doing something with his phone. Probably listening to music since he had his earbud in.
Faye made a noise and Harry looked up.
"Oh, um, sorry. I didn't see you," he said and put his phone away.
"Do you get picked up?" He asked.
"I don't know," she answered.
"How can you not know if you get pick up or not? Do you walk home atleast?" He asked.
Faye just shrugged and layed on the grass looking up at the leaves of the trees and how the sun shines through the spaces between the leaves.
"You know, I don't get you," he said.
Faye felt a bit disapointed inside. Maybe he will stop talking to her and call say shit about her like other people did, she thought. Losing the only person that talks to her would be heart breaking for her.
"But that's ok," he went on. "Because I want to know you more so I can understand you."
"What do you mean?" She said sitting back up.
"I want to be your friend Miss. Faye," he said in a fancy voice. "As you can see, I don't have friends."
"Oh, and you think I'm willing to be your friend after all te weirdness and awkwardness you've shown me?" She said laughing.
"Oh, Miss. Faye, you have not seen how weird and awkward I am. Yet. So if you want to see how weird and awkward I really am," he went on. "You and I shall become friends."
Faye laughed at him. Harry smiled at her. Never has anyone made her laugh.
"Well, then, Harry, would you have to honor to be my only friend?" She asked.
"It would be my pleasure," he said. They both smiled at each other.
"So," Faye said. "What should we do now."
They both stayed quite for a minute.
"Well, would you like to go eat somewhere?" He asked her.
Faye thought about it. Would her father get mad at her for taking long to get home? But, he wouldn't care. He never really did.
"Okay," she told him. "But I don't have money."
"It's okay, I do. We can go to a cafe downtown and talk about eachother," he said.
"So like a date?" She asked.
"Not really. More like a..." He wondered.
"Like a..." She went on.
"I don't know, scientist should really make up a word for a first lunch with your new friends," he said.
"Yeah," she agreed. "So, do you wanna go now or?"
"Now would be okay," he responded.
"Won't your parents mind that you won't be home?" She asks.
"No, I already told them ahead of time," we got up.
"Oh, so you told them that you were going to take your new friend out to eat?" She asked as they both started walking.
"Sort of like that," he responded.
On the way to the cafe, they talked about really stupid and funny things that has happened to them. Harry had more since Faye never really had something stupid or funny in her life to talk about. The made jokes and played and raced. People gave the weird looks, but they didn't really care. This is the most fun Faye has had in years, and even if it was in the street, she still thought it was amazing.
When they got to the cafe, they both took a seat in a booth way in the back. The waitress brought them the menus and looked at the various foods they had.
"What do you want to eat?" Harry aked her.
"Is a turkey sandwich with clam chowder okay?" She asked.
"Of course. I think I'll have the same," he said.
They ordered their food and waited.
"So, tell me about yourself," he asked her.
"What do you want to know?" She asked.
"Um, where were you born?"
"Maine," she answered him.
"Okay, your turn, ask me something," he told her.
"Okay, do you have any pets?" She asked.
"I have a cat," he answered.
"That's great,"she said.
They asked eachother questions until the food arrived. They joked and laughed throughout the after noon. Faye relised it was almost 6 and she had to get home to do homework. After they were finished with their sandwiches, they ordered and iced coffee to go.
"You don't have to walk me home," Faye suggested. "I live far and I don't want your parents to be mad at you for coming home late."
"It's okay, I can call them to pick me up," he said.
As they walked to Faye's house, they asked eachother more questions.
"So, who do you live with?" Harry asked.
"I live with my dad," she answered him.
"Oh, how about your mom?" He asked.
"She commuted suicide when I was 6," she answered him. She wasn't scared to say it. She felt safe telling him.
Harry stayed silence. She wants waiting for him to reply. So she just went on.
"You see, my father abused her. She couldn't take it anymore. She knew that she had a daughter to take care of, but the pain was too much for her. We couldn't leave. My father would find us and take us back. So she thought if she overdosed pills, she would die without anymore pain. I saw her take them myself. But, as a six year old, how would I know she wanted to kill herself. The next day, I tried to wake her up for her to take me to school. She never woke up," I finished.
"Im really sorry Faye," he said.
"It's okay."
"No Faye, it's not okay. You saw your own mother kill herself when you were barely six years old, that's not right," he said.
Faye didn't respond.
The rest of the way to her house, they didn't talk to each other.
"Well, this is my house," she said as they stopped infront of the small house. "Thank you for today."
"It's no problem. See you tomorrow," he aid and walk away.
Faye stood on the side walk watching him walk farther away.
