Forever Alone

You and John have been out several times over the course of a few months. You actually enjoy his company. He had several of the many qualities that you wanted in a man. He is smart, well-educated, caring, sweet, kind, and handsome. He is a true gentleman. He takes you out on fancy dates which include expensive dinners. He is also quite the conversationalist. He told you about this one time his attending was taking out an extremely dangerous tumor. He gave every detail and in the end it was quite fascinating yet you really didn’t understand all the medical terms he was using. Sometimes these stories are a little too much. He is a great guy yet all he walks about is surgeries he has scrubbed in on. You wanted different conversations like the ones you have with Niall.

Stop! Don’t talk about him. I like John and yes he talks about surgeries and all this doctor shit but he is wonderful. He makes me happy. Niall had a chance with me yet he chose that girl. He chose her and I have moved on. Have you, Judith? Have you moved on? Yes I have moved on. I moved on months ago. He moved on too. Judith, do you really think he has moved on? Yes because he has a girlfriend. Judith, he got jealous over your first date with John. So he was mad that I was having fun. Judith, he still cares about you. Whatever.

You weren’t expecting this phone call. It was Niall. He hasn’t called you in weeks. Wait months. He was either busy with his girlfriend or work. This was the first time he has called you since you saw him in the hallway the other day. He had said hi but it wasn’t his cheeky self. You stared at the photo of him he had set for when he called. You laughed at the picture of him and picked up.

“Hello,” you called out.

“Judith?” he asked

“Yes Niall,” you replied.

“So how are you?” he asked

“I’m good how about you?” you answered

“I’m okay,” he muttered.

“So what’s up?” you asked

“Why do you suppose that something is up? I can’t call my best friend,” he answered.

“Niall, we haven’t talked in months,” you replied.

“I’m sorry about that,” he replied.

“It’s okay. So what do you want?” you repeated

“Well can you and John come on a double date with Donna and me?” he asked

“Why?” you asked

“Because all her friends are going to be there and I don’t really know them. If you and John come than I will know at least one person,” he told you.

“I have to see if John is busy,” you commented.

“Please it would mean the world if you guys came,” he begged.

“I’ll let you know okay?” you replied

“Okay let me know soon. Bye Judy,” Niall answered.

“Bye Niall,” you replied hanging up the phone.

It turns out that John wasn’t busy and he agreed to go. He wanted to meet Niall and Donna. You have talked so much about Niall that John wanted to see what the whole fuss about him was. Wait you talked about Niall to John, Judith? Yes but before you yell just know that John knows that Niall is my friend. He knows that I’m interested in him and not Niall. Sure Judith. He is. John has nothing to worry about. Right Judith, right.

The night arrived for your double date. Niall had texted you the details this morning. He wanted to make sure that you guys were still coming. Of course you were going. You had nothing better to do. You really didn’t want to go but John insisted that you guys go no matter how many times you begged him that you didn’t want to go. He told you that since you went out with him and his friends on a double date that he could return the favor. You thought that he would go on a double date with either Rachel or Bridgette but you were wrong.

You decided on a nice black dress. It was a halter dress. You were going to some fancy club downtown. You and John were taking a cab down to the club. You were obviously going to drink but you have been noticing that John doesn’t drink too much. He usually has a glass of wine at dinner but nothing more. Hopefully he will loosen up. He doesn’t have work tomorrow so it would be logical that he drank tonight. Then again John might not be much of a drinker.

The cab arrived rather early. John was sitting on the couch when you came out. He kissed you and put his hand in yours. You and John walked out the door and made your way down to the cab. You decided that you guys would be fashionably late. You really didn’t want to be there before everyone else. You really don’t know the people that are going to be there. You were surprised that Donna was actually letting you come. You thought that she hated you then again you and Niall haven’t talked in months. So yeah she is probably the reason behind that.

You guys arrived at the club and it was really popping. John helped you out of the cab and you walked up to the door with your hand intertwined with yours. You entered the building and there were a lot of people. You guys walked through the mass of people trying to find Niall. Then you heard a faint laugh that sounded so familiar. It had to be him. You then spotted him in the distance and he smiled. He waved you guys over and you and John made your way over to your friend you have befriended recently. Once you reached him he hugged you and shook John’s hand. You hugged Donna and she shook John’s hand too. Donna introduced you to her friends. They’re sluts just saying like her. Judith, please be nice. You have John around your arm. Right I should keep my mouth shut. That’s right Judith. You do that.

The night was quite nice. Donna was having the time of her life. Niall stayed with us most of the night. He kept bringing drinks for all four of us. Halfway through Donna left us to go hang with her friends. Niall was going to go with her but she told him to stay. Was he some sort of dog? Hey he needs your attention to you slut! She’s not a slut. Judith, she is treating him like crap and you don’t see it. Oh I do it’s just that he chose that. He should be grateful that he isn’t beaten. Judith, isn’t that how Steve was in the beginning? Making you stay behind while he went off to have fun. Yeah, but I never thought a girl could abuse a boy. Anything can happen, Judith. Maybe you should ask him if everything is alright. It’s none of my business. If he wanted someone to know I’m sure he would tell the boys. Judith weren’t you scared to tell someone. Maybe he is the same way. He wouldn’t be stupid enough to let someone beat him. You let Steve beat you. That’s a different story. How is it different? Niall knows right from wrong. He is stronger than I am. He can stand up for himself and say no. I couldn’t. I wasn’t brave enough because I was afraid that he would kill me. Judith, ask him. Name one reason why I should ask him. Because you love him.
