Shattered Glass

Chapter 6

“Ah, I’m Honour’s mother. It’s nice to meet you.” My mother smiled, shaking his hand. He returned back in place, dropping his hand. I can still feel the warmth of his fingers imprinted into my skin as I looked up at my mom, finding her staring at me.

“You can go on up stairs, if you like. Just keep the door open.” She offers, motioning up the stairs.

“But, what about-” I start, trying to find some excuse for Harry not to be able to stay long.

“Oh, don’t worry about him. He took the early flight there to get everything settled. I was just packing my last bag and stayed to tell you what was going on.” My mother interrupted, making me growl at her in my head.

“We are going to be gone until next Sunday. If you have any friends over, no more than five. If any guys stay here, they stay on the couch and not in your room. Do not tell your father that I’m letting you do this. I love you, Honour.” My mom said, kissing my forehead to avoid hugging my soaking clothes.

“Harry, honey, stay as long as you like.” My mother continued as she went upstairs to retrieve her bags.

Minutes ticked by in silence until the clumping of my mom coming back down the stairs followed by the thump of her suitcases hitting each step. I stepped back from the bottom stair, giving her space to operate her luggage. With a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek my mother was out of the door and into a cab quicker than I can say wait.

I sighed and turned away from the stair case, looking up at the boy to find he was already looking down at me. I shifted uncomfortably at how close he was, taking a small step back. His scent clouded my mind, making my thoughts get jumbled in my head.

“I’m going to go change.” I manage to spit out before turning and making my way up the stairs to my room.

I had successfully made it up the steps without falling on my face when I heard something thump from in my room. I paused at the door, listening for another sign of intrusion. It was silent for a minute until I made out the near silent sound of footsteps slowly making their way towards the door. I froze, not knowing what to do when it swung open.

A shriek made its way up my throat and out my mouth before I could do anything, the sharp sound echoing off the walls. I could hear Harry calling my name and his loud stomps up the stairs as he rushed to my rescue. A sweaty hand clamped over my mouth, a voice in my ear shushing me. I struggled trying to fight the attacker off when a familiar voice rang in my ear, calming as it reassured me I was okay.

Before I could turn around to see the boy, I was ripped from his arms and tucked into Harry’s chest, his arms around me as he lifted my feet off the floor and toted me back a few steps. I was sat down on my wet shoes and slipped behind his back so his frame could hide my smaller one.

“Who the hell are you and what do you want?” Harry snapped, his voice low and threatening.

“Who the hell are you?” A familiar voice rang out, attitude thick in his tone.

“It’s okay, Harry.” I say, touching his side to make him twist around, his eyes locking with mine.

“I know him.” I admit, glancing at the boy who stood in front of my doorway.

“You sure?” He asks quietly, his tone softening a little.

“Yes, she’s sure. Who the hell are you?” Louis snapped as I stepped out from behind Harry’s body, shaking my head and Lou.

“Harry, this is Louis. Louis, this is Harry. He’s a friend of mine.” I say, motioning between their bodies.

“What is he doing here?” Louis asked, his eyes a hard blue as he eyed Harry.

“He just drove me home so I wouldn’t get rained on.” I explained, wiggling my toes.

I realized that I just made myself out to look like a liar as I shivered, my wet clothes sticking to my body.

“He didn’t do a very good job.” Louis growled, eyeing me and Harry.

“It’s fine, Lou. What are you doing here?” I asked, walking past him and into my room. I didn’t have to look back to know that both boys followed me into my room.

“I was coming to check on you. We haven’t spoke much this week and I thought you could use some company but I see that it has been taken care of.” Louis said, his tone harsh as he spat the words.

“Louis, it’s not like-” I start but his rough voice cut me off, making me turn around and look at him.

“No, it’s fine, Honour. It just would have been nice to know that you were ignoring me and Niall for a new play toy.” Louis said as he glared at me, motioning towards the taller male in the room. He shook his head sharply as he turned around and stomped off, not caring as his shoulder made rough contact with Harry’s as he exited the room. The house was silent until a loud slamming sound was made, the sign that an angry Lou has gone home to pout.
