Like Father Like Son
Chapter 3
After stopping by our lockers, Elaine, Jason and I walked to homeroom. It was weird having a third person with us, because it was usually just Elaine and myself. But Jason seemed like a great guy and he was super cute. Everything that came out of his mouth was funny, intelligent or sweet, or all three. He was all and all an awesome boy.
"So, Kellyn." Jason smiled as we took our seats.
"Yes?" I asked, smiling back at him.
"Elaine tells me it's your birthday, is that correct?" Jason said with another sly smirk forming on his lips.
I blushed, "that is correct."
"Well, happy birthday, love." He said with his award winning smile. My blush didn't go away, but increased.
"Thank you." I simply replied as the teacher walked into class. She looked up and her eyes met Jason's. He squirmed in his seat slightly, as though he were uncomfortable.
"Are you Jason?" She asked with an obviously fake smile.
"Um, yes ma'am." Jason nodded, still seeming unnerved.
"Jason.. Beauman." She said. The pause she put between his first and last names was odd. I raised an eyebrow and exchanged confused glances with Elaine. Elaine shrugged and tapped her pencil on the desk.
"Yes, ma'am." Jason again nodded.
The teacher, Ms. Lane, nodded, too, "well, I hope for a better year than your father gave me, yes?"
"Let's see." Jason said, glancing down at his desk.
Ms. Lane sighed and turned to begin her lesson. I looked over at Jason, whispering, "what was that all about?"
He leaned over to me, whispering in reply, "my dad wasn't a very good student, and that's where I'll leave it."
"Um, okay," I shrugged, leaning away from him as the lesson began.
Homeroom in my school went for two periods, then third period, then fourth, then lunch. I had Homeroom, third period and lunch Elaine and Jason, but every class with Jason, so I showed him to classes. As third period ended and we said goodbye to Elaine until Lunch, my only thoughts were on how strange Jason was acting.
"You've been pretty off since homeroom, Jason." I finally pointed out.
He looked up and shrugged, "sorry, she just struck a pretty sensitive cord, is she always that terrible?"
"She's not exactly a walk in the park, but you get used to her." I shrugged as we took our seats in Math.
"Well, I hate her." Jason scrunched up his nose like he had just smelled something rotten.
"It's your first day, I'm sure it'll get better." I smiled at him reassuringly.
Jason smiled back, "you're so sweet, Kellyn, I could really see us getting to be.. pretty close friends."
I blushed, "I hope so."
