Like Father Like Son
Chapter 1
Kellyn's Outfit
"Kellyn Grace!" my mother's voice screech, snapping me from my slumber. I groaned, knowing she was waking me up for school.
"I don't want to go!" I moaned as I buried my face more into my pillow.
My mother sighed, "Kellyn, please, get up."
"But it's my birthday, mom!" I exclaimed, snapping up off the pillow, "I'm sixteen now! I'm practically an adult!"
"When you start paying for your own stuff, and live in your own house, then you're an adult," My mother smirked, "and even then, you'll be
my daughter, and what do I always say?"
I rolled my eyes, mumbling, "mommy knows best."
"That's my girl!" she leaned down and pecked my cheek, smiling and walking out of my room.
"Not even a happy birthday!" I exclaimed, knowing she would probably have something planned later.
My younger brother's, James, head popped into my room. He was a spitting imagine of what my dad looked like when he was James's age, eleven.
James adjusted his thick framed glasses, "happy birthday, Kelly!" he loved calling me Kelly.
I smiled, "thanks, kiddo."
He nodded and walked away, down the stairs, and then his place was taken up by my dad. My dad gave me a big, warm hearted smile.
"Good morning and happy birthday, my little princess." He smiled as he pecked the top of my head.
I grinned, "thanks, daddy!"
"You're welcome," my dad smiled, "now downstairs."
"Can I at least get ready?" I chuckled. I tossed the blankets back and swung my legs over the other side of my bed. The hardwood floors were freezing under my bare feet. A small chill crept up my back as I made my way toward my bathroom. I brushed my teeth and washed my face, happy with my appearance. I believed in self confidence, not being conceited. The outfit choice I made was perfect and my hair and make up matched it.
"Kellyn!" my mother snapped from downstairs again. I groaned and took another glance in the mirror, before snatching up my backpack and rushing down to meet my family.
"Nice outfit." My brother commented, examining it.
"You're not wearing that!" a familiar, smooth accent exclaimed. Being only half British, my accent was light, but there. I turned to see my uncle Zayn, looking me over.
"But uncle Zayn!" I pouted.
"There is a lot of creeps in this town!" My uncle thundered, laughing as he pecked my cheek.
"Yes, and I attend school with half of them, so I'm used to it," I smirked, taking a seat at the table.
"Uncle Louis is picking us up from school today," James smiled as our uncle Louis joined us in the dining room.
"Do you ever miss the bike, Lou?" I asked as I chewed the pancakes my mother sat out for me.
Louis shrugged, "I'm a family man now, it's best I not be in danger's way like I used to be."
"That's responsible." My dad smiled as he entered the room.
"Marcie!" Zayn exclaimed, "are you playing soccer with Louis, James and I later?"
"Sure!" My dad said, nodding as he looked at me, "how about you, love?"
"Er, no." I shook my head with a chuckle.
My mom entered then, taking my now empty plate, "I'm taking Kellyn shopping for her birthday later."
"Really?!" I squeaked. My mom and I never really did 'mother-daughter' things like that.
"Yeah, why not?" My mom smiled.
"Gross, girl stuff." Louis laughed, taking a sip out of his cup.
"Gross, soccer." I smirked, raising an eyebrow.
"You're a smart one, Kellyn." Louis winked and punched my shoulder.
"Speaking of smart!" my dad exclaimed, "you two are gonna be late for the bus!"
James snatched up his backpack, which I copied, and we rushed out of the door toward the bus. I waved as my family shouted their happy birthdays and told us to have a nice day. My brother was far off ahead, and I got there just in time for the bus to pull up.
"Morning, kids." our bus driver, Miss. Moana, "and happy birthday, Miss. Kellyn."
"Thanks, Moana." I smiled as I walked to the back of the bus. Elaine, my best friend, and my uncle Zayn's daughter, was sitting in a seat by herself.
"Hey, dork." I commented at my younger "cousin".
She looked up, smiling, "hey, birthday girl!"
"You remembered." I grinned as I sat next to her.
"How could I forget?" She beamed a bright smile as she got into her backpack. She dug around until she found a small box, wrapped in green wrapping paper, since green had always been my favorite color.
"Aw, El, you shouldn't have." I giggled as I took the present.
"Yes I should've, and I did, now open it!" Elaine laughed in response. I hugged her with one arm, and then began opening the small box. It was a small brown parcel, which I ripped open with ease and slid out a long, black box. The lid on the box popped off to expose a beautiful
charm bracelet. My mouth fell open with a gasp.
"El!" I squealed, throwing my arms around her neck.
"I'm taking it, you like it." Elaine laughed as she hugged back.
I pulled back, laying the bracelet across my wrist, "I love it! Thank you so much!"
"My mom helped me pick out the charms." She grinned. I smiled back and held out my wrist, which she gladly took and snapped the bracelet into place. I bit down on my lip as I analyzed the bracelet a bit more thoroughly.
"It's gorgeous, El, thank you so much," I said, "and remind me to thank your mom."
"You're welcome," Elaine smiled, "so, tell me, is this going to be the best birthday ever?"
"Of course it is." I beamed a grin, "it has to be."
"Kellyn Grace!" my mother's voice screech, snapping me from my slumber. I groaned, knowing she was waking me up for school.
