“Darling aren’t you done, yet?” My stepmom enters my room without a further notice, while I am curling my eyelashes. “I’m almost done. Mum, could you help me in sorting my hair chain?” She nods slowly, clearly impressed by how much I take care of my presentation. Her fingers detach the golden chain knots, then she fluffs my hair so it can be all assorted. “There, pretty as a daisy.” She smiles looking at my reflection through the mirror, and I return one back. “Now, come along. They are all waiting downstairs and your sister is already there.” I nod as I slide my gold heels (http://www.polyvore.com/green_royality/set?id=117242569&lid=3453986), then depart from my room.
“Everyone! I know you’ve missed Janelle.” My stepmom takes the liberty of announcing my entrance, even though I don’t need one. I smile at the familiar women of the Malik family, recalling the days I used to enjoy being at their household. “My sweetest Jan! Come give your auntie a hug.” Mrs. Malik, Trisha, opens her arms to me. “My god, child. Look what a beautiful woman you have turned to become. If I had an extra son, I wouldn’t wait longer to mesh both of you together.” A needle pokes my heart, awakening the pain of reality.
Even if Zayn had a brother, I wouldn’t go for him; I’d use my nails and teeth like a lioness to cling on the hazel-eyed fantasy. “Didi!” I rejoice once I embrace Zayn’s elder sister, Doniya. “Snaps to you! I hate you for losing contact.” She fake pouts, and I look at her in sorrow. “I’m here now, that’s the important thing, right?” She nods with her fascinating smile, as I greet Waliyha and Safaa, Zayn’s younger sisters.
“You two have grown so much since I last saw you.” I smile at the two teenagers, and they nod with a warm yet blushy smile.“You too, love. And may I say you look stunning this evening.” Trisha compliments me with complete honesty, and I am speechless from her caring gesture. Perrie feels sort of intimidated by my presence, its like I have taken the spotlight off of her for once. I didn’t mean to do it at all; I am used to be hidden under her casting shadow.
“I still remember Jan’s continuous visits back when she and Zayn were in college. (She smiles and proceeds) Zayn would be asleep in the afternoon, and she would spend time with me. (She looks at me thoughtfully) Remember how you used to beg me to teach you how to cook?” I nod slowly, while I take a hot sip from my teacup. “I can never forget, Trisha. You taught me a lot of stuff, that I still apply back in London.” After I reply, Perrie jolts up from her seat beside me; making us all stare at her in confusion. “Anyone fancies some English squares?”
Her inviting words did not sound humble at all, they were coated with irritation and a clear tension.“I’ll get them, darling. You just sit down and bond with your family in law.” My stepmom saves her foolish act, and glides to the kitchen. “Perrie you are going to make the most beautiful wife. We must go shopping to pick your dress and the brides mates’ gowns. Jan, darling you’ll come with, yeah?” I nod at Trisha’s excited words, but they don’t affect me like they sound.
“I’m sure my sis would manage any option we choose. She doesn’t really have to join, right auntie?” Perrie’s suggestion doesn’t sound rude, but I certainly know that she is implying that I must not be there. It’s Perrie’s big day, and not mine. Believe me I would be happy for her being married, if only it wasn’t the only man I fancied being her husband.
