Gone
NInety-Three
"Uh...well, this is...um," Niall stuttered giving me a look that said help me.
"I'm Kaia...hisgirlfriend," I replied for him with a fake smile, emphasising on the girlfriend.
I wasn't exactly sure why, but I held out my hand for her to shake.
"Hailey, hisex-girlfriend," she said, mimicking me.
She just stared at my outstretched hand as if unsure of what to do with it. I put my hand back by my side and stared at the floor, wishing the ground would swallow me whole. His ex-girlfriend? Why wasn't he still with her? I was beginning to question why he would go out with me when he had datedher.
She was absolutely stunning, at least on the outside. I was kidding myself if I even thought for a second that I could compete with her. If this was one of those situations where the guy was still into his ex, I would get out of here, lock myself in my room with my non-existent lock, and spend the rest of my life alone.
Why was she here anyway? Maybe she was one of Emma's friends and that's why she was here, to celebrate her friend's eighteenth. It seemed too good to be true though. I seriously hoped she'd moved on, or at least Niall had.
"So...what are you uh...what are you doing here?" He asked, stealing the words right out of my mouth, not that I would've dared to say it to her face.
He sounded almost as if he didn't want her to be here. Well, good, I was glad. I'd rather that then have him be secretly in love with her. Or, what if that was the reason he didn't want her here? Was I being paranoid or realistic?
“Well, your sister posted a Facebook status saying that whoever wants to can come to her party so I thought I’d pop in. Y’know,” she turned to me with a pout, “see how you’re doing,”
She was trying to be intimidating, I could tell. It was bloody working too.
Oh my God what if Josh was Emma's friend on Facebook? What if he knew I was here and turned up unannounced, ready to tell my secret to whoever was willing to listen?
"Can I get you a drink?" She asked.
The question was obviously directed more to Niall than to me.
The phone rang in my hand. I'd pretty much forgotten that it'd been in my hand this whole time. The caller ID didn't show up on the grey screen. It just said 'private number' so I’d figured it’d be Josh calling back to piss me off even further-if that was even possible. Instead of heading back upstairs, I excused myself and headed out into the back yard. The house was now overflowing with drunken teenagers. The noise was horrendous even out in the yard. I could barely hear myself speak let alone think.
"What do you want Josh?" I demanded in a low but harsh voice.
But what came next wasn't what I had expected.
