Amber ran over to me with excitement as soon as I walked through the gates.
"Happy Birthday K!" she shouted.
She wrapped her arms around me and handed me a blue and white polka dot bag. Everyone turned to stare at us. I shielded my face with embarrassment. I hated people knowing it was my birthday. I hated the attention.
"Thanks Bambi," I whispered, "are they still staring?"
She rolled her eyes.
"Geezus Kaia! You'd better get used to it, there's going to be a hundred times more people at mine tonight,"
"How many people did you invite exactly?" I demanded.
"Just look in the bloody bag already,"
I reached inside the bag to pull out a piece of average sized paper. My eyes widened and my heart skipped a beat as I opened it and read the first couple of lines.
"Holy moly, you fucking didn't-" I yelled.
I didn't bother to lower my voice. I was too overwhelmed.
"Oh I fucking did," she giggled hysterically.
I couldn't stop smiling. Maybe today wouldn't be so bad after all.
"Bloody hell! Thank you so much. How did you get him to come tonight?"
She held a finger to her mouth and tapped the side of her nose.
"I know people," she whispered with a grin.
I gave her the biggest hug I had ever given anyone. As I pulled away the look on her face made me burst into fits of giggles.
"Seriously, thank you! You're just about the only person who gets how big of a deal this is," I squealed.
"Wow, you just hugged me and then giggled like...a girl, are you feeling okay K?"
I gave her a look.
"I am a girl even though I don't always act like one. Besides this is Winner Brent, the most famous DJ out, our idol, of course I'm going to hug you,"
"Well, at least now you'll be more likely to enjoy yourself tonight," she said, "now, help me hand out flyers,"
I folded the letter and placed it back in the bag which I had placed between my feet.
Amber handed me a stack of colourful flyers that advertised the party tonight. As people walked past she stuck her hand out so they didn't have a choice but to take one even if they didn't want to. A blonde haired boy around sixteen or seventeen passed us. His eyes were glued to his phone. He simply went around Amber's hand without even looking up. She raced after him desperately trying to get him to take one. He stopped in his tracks and turned to face her. There was a change of expression on her face.
"Niall?" she gasped.
"Amber...hi,"
Who was he? How did they know each other?
"What are you doing here?" She demanded, a hint of panic in her voice.
"Oh, it's my first day here," he replied, "What's this flyer for?"
"My best friend's birthday party," she replied, "I've hired Winner Brent to be the DJ,"
The boy turned his head on one side as he eyed the flyer.
"Wait, who?"
I laughed as Amber's facial expression changed dramatically.
"YOU DON'T-" she stopped herself from going all aggro and took a deep breath, "just...take...one..."
As soon as he did, she stormed back over to me with clenched fists.
"Who was that?" I demanded.
She didn't answer.
"Amber?"
She looked the other way, twirling her hair around her finger.
"No one. Just...just leave it K," she finally answered.
