Gone
Forty-One
"You okay?" Niall asked.
He wrapped his arm around my shoulder as I rested my head against his warm burly chest.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I breathed.
I was still feeling a little bit dizzy. He studied me closely for a moment, a look of concern on his face.
"Shall we get going then?" He said slowly, motioning to the door.
He stood up and held out his hand for me to grab onto.
My head didn't stop spinning until we hopped into the car. As soon as my eyesight had returned to normal, I noticed he was wearing a checked blue and green hoodie with blue skinny jeans and darker coloured shoes I couldn't see as they were swallowed by the darkness surrounding us.
"Are you going to tell me where we're off to?" I asked.
He smirked as he backed out of the driveway, staring into his rear view mirrors.
"You look great," he grinned, changing the subject with ease, "I like your top,"
I laughed.
"Thanks but you're not going to get out of it that easily. Now, where are we going. You know I'm not a fan of surprises,"
"Is that so?" he said mysteriously.
About half an hour passed. And quite quickly too. We still hadn't run out of things to talk about when he suddenly took a sharp left and then a sharp right and parked in a carpark near a small amusement park. The sign said Fondles Park. I had never been here before.
The park looked absolutely fantastic with the bright lights and the stereotypical circus themed music blaring in the background. The thing that caught my eye was the gigantic ferris wheel probably plastered in the centre of it all. We could see it from the gates. We lined up behind a middle-aged brunette lady and her two kids, both of whom looked around eight or nine. We were fourth in line. It wasn't long before it was our turn. The ticket guy stared at us blankly. The name tag on his blue and white uniform said Bob. A plain name for a plain man.
"Two students please," Niall said with a smile.
He was so adorable.
"That comes to twenty three dollars and forty cents. Would you like to buy an extra ticket for half price," Bob asked in a montone.
"No thanks," Niall replied, handing him the money.
Bob ripped off two tickets from the ticket dispenser and gave them to him.
"Make sure you follow all the rules and enjoy yourself. At Fondles Park we like to ensure that you have fun in a safe and happy environment,"
He sounded almost sarcastic.
I took out my wallet and offered Niall the fifty dollar note I had brought along just in case but he refused profusely.
"No way," he said, "this is a date. I'm paying,"
I didn't argue because it wasn't really my money to begin with. I had stolen it from the not so secret money jar we had for emergencies because I didn't have any money left. I had spent all of it on the second season of 2 Broke Girls. I couldn't help that it was on special.
Niall led me through the gates and into the park, our hands intertwined. We followed a red path through the middle, constantly getting distracted with all the rides and games before finally coming to a large roller coaster. I stopped in my tracks and watched in awe as the people screamed with both fright and excitement, the cart moving down the steep slope.
"You wanna go on that?" He chuckled.
I nodded.
I loved roller coasters. They were the best thing about theme parks. I loved the feeling of the wind in my hair. The way the carriage peeked over the edge and I don't know when it's going to drop. The adrenaline rush as I almost free fall down the slope at top speed. There was nothing better.
"Oh, okay...um sure, we can...if you want to," he babbled.
Was he afraid of heights?
