Gone
Thirty-Six
As soon as we entered the eating area, I could feel the tension in the atmosphere. Almost everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to stare. Everyone, except for Amber. I spotted her sitting at a table by herself, no Josh to be seen. She noticed that everyone was looking in the same direction and did the same. She rose from her seat as soon as she saw us and from the look on her face, I gathered she wasn't too happy. Niall grabbed my hand and pulled me so that I was standing behind me.
"What the fuck?! Kaia is just using you to get back at me," then, she turned to me, "You're not fooling anyone with that good girl act you've got going on,"
She obviously wanted to cause a scene.
She was talking rubbish and thankfully Niall didn't look convinced. She could say anything she wanted, it didn't matter. Niall was mine now and that's the way it was going to stay. Not for any other reason than the fact that we liked each other, a lot. But that didn't change the fact I was still pissed off at her and her saying this stuff about me in front of all these people was making the situation worse. I stepped out from behind Niall and folded my arms across my chest.
"Stop talking shit and face it: no-body-likes-you," I growled, "I said the last part slowly so you even you can understand,"
I knew she hated it when I patronised her, that's why I did it.
"Funny!" She snickered sarcastically, sticking her middle finger up at me.
She was obviously buying time to think of a good comeback. To me, she wasn't intimidating at all. I had known her too long for that. But me on the other hand...
"Where's Josh these days? Looks like even he can't stand to be around you," I snarled.
I beat her to it. I could tell she was trying hard to hide how offended she was by what I had just said. Niall gave me a look.
"Don't worry about her baby," he whispered in my ear, "she's not worth it,"
And he was right. Amber wasn't worth anything. She wasn't worth wasting my breath on; she wasn't worth losing my temper over; and she definitely wasn't worth putting up with.
Niall led me away from her and we were about to make our way through the growing crowd when there was a shrill shriek.
"Oh, that's right, walk away! That's what you always do when things get serious,"
I spun around, and pulled away from Niall's firm grip as I strode back over to her. She deserved a bitch slap in the face...with a car. The palm of my hand would have to do. I raised my hand and was about to smack the snooty grin off her pear shaped face but Niall grabbed me just in time.
"Kaia, you're better than this. Don't stoop to her level," he said.
I still hadn't moved my arm. It took a lot of inner strength and several deep breaths before I exited the scene as quickly as I could, my boyfriend by my side.
