Niall looked me up and down as he stood in the doorway. He wore faded grey jeans, a blue and grey hoodie that he had zipped up halfway, and white dancer shoes.
"You look great," he grinned.
Since when had I ever looked anything more than average? That was probably the first sincere compliment a guy has ever given to me in at least five years and therefore I found it hard not to argue with him. Honestly, he looked better than I did.
"Thank you," I replied, "you don't look so bad yourself,"
I tried my best to not be so obvious but he had this strange effect on me. It was like I couldn't control what I said around him. I spotted a red convertible parked in the driveway, obviously belonging to him.
"Wow, nice ride," I said out loud to no one in particular.
He opened the door for me and sat in the driver's seat, waiting for me to hop in. Off to a good start, I thought to myself. So far, it seemed as though he really had forgotten about what I'd accidentally said to him. I still didn't know where he was taking me. As I leant back in the comfy black leather seat and breathed in the fresh air, I realised it wouldn't matter where he took me, the most important thing was the company. From the short two minutes I had spent alone with him, the company didn't seem too bad.

After what seemed like forever, Niall finally stopped the car in front of a lake of some sort. The brisk breeze created ripples in the dark blue water as it shimmered in the moonlight, giving off a dim glow.
"We're here," he said.
Where exactly was here though? We definitely weren't in Dennington anymore, that's for sure. The real question was why were we here? He seemed anxious to get out of the car as he perched on the edge of the bonnet and gazed up at the sky. There was definitely something on his mind. I stepped out of the car and into the almost complete darkness to sit next to him. All I could hear was the low gurgle of a colony of bats as they flew above us, creating a cloud of black. The silence was almost empty as if it lacked something.
"I come here all the time to think," he finally spoke, "especially in these sorts of situations,"
He lay down on his back, his hand accidentally brushing up against the side of my waist, sending chills down my spine. I bit my lip to keep myself from shivering.
"I'm sorry about what she put you through," I said softly.
I lay down next to him. I couldn't see him properly but I could feel his eyes on me, boring into my skin.
"Kaia?"
His silvery voice was now barely above a whisper. I had to move as close as I could, just to hear his voice.
"Yes Niall?"
He didn't answer right away.
"I think I might really like you," he choked out, "as more than a friend,"
