Gone

It wasn't long before she finally woke up. As soon as she saw me, she sat up.
"Where am I? What day is it?" She muttered.
She rubbed her head as she squinted at me. Her face was covered in make up, and her hair looked like a bird's nest.
"Pretty sure it's Saturday but I could be wrong
,"
Her eyes widened as if she had come to some kind of realisation.
"K," she said, panicking, "when are my parents coming home
?"
I honestly didn't know and from the look
on her face
, she didn't either. Now was probably not a good time to
tell her who had stopped by while she was unconscious.
Before I could tell her I had no idea when her parents would be home, we heard the sound of a car engine and tires on the cement driveway
.
"Shit!" She yelled, "that's them isn't it? I'm so screwed!"
I pulled the curtain across slightly and peered out the window to see a black BMW parked
in the next
door neighbour's driveway
.
"Oh no, it's the people next door," I replied.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank God! I really don't know what I would do if they came home
, what I would say, how-"
"We should start tidying up then, considering neither of us know when they're going to turn up," I interrupted.
Under an hour later we heard another car. At least the place looked a little cleaner. If it wasn't for the broken glass in a neat pile on the ground and the suspicious odour, it would've almost passed for normal. Surely this time, it really would be her parents. As soon as they knocked on the door, Amber raced over to it. I could tell she was proud of her efforts to make the house look like there hadn't been a party. When she opened the door, I almost swallowed my tongue. It wasn't her parents, it was mine.
Mum stood in the doorway. She pursed her lips and raised her eyebrows as she planted her hands firmly on her hips. I could tell she was about to yell at me. She stared at me for a minute, shaking her head with frustration, before she finally broke the awkward silence.
"Get in the car," she said behind gritted teeth.
Her voice sounded calm but the expression on her face said otherwise.
I looked back at Amber who looked just as intimidated as I felt. She nodded at me to let me know she would be okay.
"I'll see you at school on Monday, yeah?" I said to her.
She nodded silently, not game to speak.
I scanned the room for my bag and my shoes but I couldn't see them anywhere.
"What are you waiting for?" Mum demanded, "Get in the bloody car!"
"But what about my-"
"Now!"
Mum turned to face Amber.
"I'll be calling your parents to let them know about this unfortunate situation. I expected better, from both of you," Mum said to her.
What unfortunate situation? What was she going on about? Confused, I took one last glance at Amber, who by this stage was scared out of her mind, before I headed out the door.
As soon as the car left the driveway I knew I was in for a lecture. I was just waiting for it. It wasn't until we arrived on the north side that she decided to even talk to me.
"I know about the party," she said softly.
I froze. Oh. God. I wanted to ask her how she had found out but I was afraid of what she might say.
