Gone
Nine
I marched down the stairs to see Amber sprawled out on the couch, mouth wide open, snoring loudly. I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing at her. The house looked like a bomb had hit or something. Shit everywhere. There was not one room in the whole house that would pass as hygienic. I tossed up whether or not I should wake Amber up. If I did, she would be grumpy but get a head start on the clean up. If I didn't she would get to sleep longer and probably not finish cleaning the house in time for her parents to get home from their holiday. While lost in thought I heard a knock at the front door. I seriously hoped for her sake that it wasn't her parents. I stumbled slowly over to the door and opened it to see George. I was seriously tempted to slam the door in his face. Instead, I glowered at him.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded.
Honestly, I couldn't care less but it was my job as his Amber’s best friend to keep him away at all costs. I didn't even know why they had broken up in the first place. Amber refused to talk about it. Apparently she was too embarrassed. I wasn't quite sure what could be worse than dating George in the first place. He wasn't exactly boyfriend material.
“I just came to get my stuff,” he replied.
He peered through the gap between me and the edge of the door. As soon as he spotted her, he pushed me out of the way to get to her without even asking if he could talk to her.
No way was I letting him anywhere near her. I knew he hadn't turned up on her doorstep just to 'get his stuff' off her. He always had an ulterior motive.
“Back off,” I snapped.
I stood in front of him and tried to push him out of the way but he was too strong.
“What’s your problem?” He demanded.
“I don’t believe I have one,”
It was the sharpest response I could come up with. Everyone had problems. Even I had problems-more than I cared to admit to and some of which I had to deal with when I got home.
"Just go, Amber doesn't want to see you,"
He shoved me so I shoved him back.
"Fuck off," he yelled, "she's my girlfriend still,"
He walked in front of me, trying to push past.
"Pretty sure she broke up with you,"
"Shut the hell up,"
There were footsteps on the stairs. I rolled my eyes as Josh rushed over to us with a concerned expression on his face.
"What is this? Asshole day?" I said under my breath.
"You should leave mate," Josh said to George.
He stood over him, trying to make himself seem more intimidating. I turned to Josh and rolled my eyes.
"I don't need your help, I was doing just fine on my own before you came along," I shouted.
"Sure you were. Besides, who said I was doing it for you?" He said.
He glanced over my shoulder at Amber who was still sound asleep on the couch even after all the yelling. Now I confused as well as pissed. I punched George in the stomach and shoved both of them out the door.
"See? Doing just fine. Now piss off,"
I slammed the door in their faces and smiled to myself.
