Cry Me A River {Book 1 in the Songs to my Heart Series}
Loser
Cass34: God, I am so glad you logged on, Liam.
LiamPayne: I could say the same thing to you :)
Cass34: Aha, tough day?
LiamPayne: You have no idea
Cass34: I'm sure I do :p
LiamPayne: So what's goin' on, Cass?
Cass34: Nothing much. Just came back from a class in History.. boring.
LiamPayne: Haha, I just came back from a dinner. You don't know my excitement when I saw u online :)
Cass34: Aw, I'm blushing :p
They're fake.
Everything I say is fake.
I act happy and nice but it's fake.
Once I say bye to him I log off, turn around in my chair, and stare at the wall like I do every other day, waiting for my roommate Bailey - Who's also my sister - to come back.
I click my tongue, checking the time on the clock to see when she should be coming back. About now is the correct time..
Why isn't she here?
That's when my phone dings.
I see it's Bailey's caller ID. I roll my eyes and pick up.
"Bailey?" I squeak.
She clears her throat. "Yeah. Um. Hello sister."
"Uh.. What's up?" I know what's coming. She's using a fake voice.
"I'm in jail," She coughs.
I rub a spot over my left eyebrow. "Bailey, listen. I'll come bail you. But please, stop getting into trouble!"
"Okay, okay!" She says hurriedly. "Hurry and come, please."
I hang up and slip the phone in my jean pocket. I grab my key chain with the Minnie Mouse and button my sweater. It's a little cold.
The wind blows rather harshly against my face and I walk through a huge pile of yellow leaves. The jail is about a block away.
I stick to the sidewalk, sometimes kicking a pebble as I walk. Once I get there, someone yells "LOSER!" At me.
I don't even know why; I guess I just look like a loser.
"Blake! Don't call that girl that!" A woman about my age scolded a little boy.
"Mommy! She's a big, fat, loser!"
My face burns red as I walk quickly away from the little boy and his mother.
God.. what is wrong with me to be called a 'loser' by a boy 10 x younger then my age?!
I open the door and walk up to the woman - her name is Minerva - at the counter.
"Bailey," I say absentmindly and she nods kindly.
She's an old woman with graying hair that she dyes blonde. Her eyes are a warm, welcoming blue.
"You have to stop getting your sister in trouble, Cassandra, dear," She nods.
"I understand," I gulp as she leads me to a room.
"Cass!" Bailey relaxes her shoulders as I walk in.
"Bailey, next time remember that 'forgetting the receipt' isn't an excuse for shoplifting!" Officer Something calls to Bailey.
She nods absentmindly.
"Yes! Thank you so much for bailing me!" Bailey cheers. "What can I ever do to repay you?"
"Not get in trouble." I reply.
Under my breath, I say, "And not keep asking me what's wrong."
