New beginnings

Chapter Six

Zayn was right about the paparazzi. They didn’t touch. They came close, though.
They said a lot of mean things. They said I was worthless. They said I was trash.
By the time we got to the entrance of the hotel, my eyes were filled with tears.
“I know, babe.” Louis said, spotting my tears. “Nothing they said was true. We love you.”
I nod, forcing a smile. People usually don’t make me cry that easily.

“Violet, love, it’s okay to cry.” He assures me, rubbing my back calmingly.

I swallow, still fighting the tears. They said I was fat. Said I didn’t deserve to be part of their family. One girl tried to trip me, and at that point, Harry just picked me up. Who knew people could be so cruel?
I blink the tears away. I just don’t like crying in front of people, no matter what they say. It makes me feel uncomfortable and awkward.
“C’mon, you guys, we’re going to be late.” Zayn calls from down the hallway. Louis grabs my hand and we walk, following the rest of the boys and the security team.
We end up in a large room with a long couch in the middle of it, and a chair in front of it. It seems like a really awkward position to be in, but I just go with it, sitting next to Liam and Louis.
I can tell that the boys really do like being together. They act so much like brothers, I would assume that they were if I didn’t know better. They’re always shoving eachother around, yelling and playing football at what seems like the most inappropriate times.
Like right now.
The interviewer hasn’t come in yet, and Niall pulled a football out from somewhere. Honestly, these boys are so immature. How are they even going to raise me? Do they think that raising a kid is a game?
I’m still thinking along these lines when the interviewer, a woman with brown hair and steely grey eyes opens the door.
The boys immediately stop playing and Niall tosses the ball to Paul.
“My name is Rachael.” The woman introduces herself. The boys instantly shake her hand and tell her their names, and Louis introduces me.
She seems friendly enough. That is, until she starts asking questions.
“So, Louis, I understand that you’re Violet’s official guardian.” How does she even know that?
“Erm, yes I am.” He says, looking a bit irritated at the question.
“The fans want to know- why did you adopt her?” she questions further.
“I’ve always wanted to adopt a child.” Louis admits. “Give someone a chance at having a normal childhood. I decided that now is as good a time as any.”
The rest of the boys nod and agree with him.
“Will Liam, Harry, Niall, and Zayn play a big part in her upbringing?” she asks.
This woman is starting to irritate me. She’s acting like it’s a solo interview with Louis and completely ignoring the rest of us.
“Of course. They’re practically family, and besides, she’s going to be living with all of us until she turns 18.” He explains.
Finally turning her attention to someone who’s NOT Louis, she makes eye contact with me.
“So, Violet, how do you feel about being adopted by One Direction?” she inquires.
I don’t know how to respond at first. It’s a bit of a weird question.
“I guess it’s just how I would feel being adopted by anyone, really.” I begin. “I mean, I know it’s not really a normal environment, since they are a famous boyband. But I’m just happy to have a normal family.”
She nods, and then begins asking normal questions about the upcoming tour and what the fans should expect. To be honest, I zone out until Louis pulls my hand and I realise that it’s time to go.
We walk down a long hallway, the opposite direction that we went coming in. I expect to be greeted by screaming fans when we open the door, but I guess nobody expected us to come out this way.
We pile into a black van with tinted windows, and then we’re off without a hitch. I hear girls screaming, but I don’t look back.
