With Great Power
prologue
I did it! I could see them, and hear them. I'd spent years working on this ability, from hearing and seeing further than normal people, to seeing in the pitch darkness. Finally, I was about to make the biggest mistake of my life. But, how was I meant to know that the conversation I eavesdropped on would be so significant. I watched them through the wall, she was pacing up and down the room as he tried to calm her. I couldn't quite make out the words, I sharpened my focus,
"I don't know what we're going to do!" she sighed as she sat on the bed by him.
"Relax, this is what we wanted, a baby, of our own."
"Yes but, not after we've adopted!" she dropped her head into her hands. Wait, did she just say, adopted?
"Look, it'll be fine, we'll just be an ordinary family, with an older sister and a younger...."
"You aren't listening! I never wanted to adopt, it was just making do!" she seemed angry, "I feel horrible about this but, I don't want her. Not if I have the new baby." she patted her stomach, the man looked at her, despondent.
"She's still our daughter, we raised her!" he shook his head at his wife.
"Then take her, and love her yourself, because I can't do it!" she shouted, tears streaming down her face.
"No, I can't. I love you too much."
"I don't know what we're going to do!" she sighed as she sat on the bed by him.

This is only the prologue, just to set the tone, the actual story will come out later today....
