Chapter 2

Getting us to this “new life” is easier than I thought. Everyone here has been so nice to me. Well some of them. It could be worse like getting bullied just because I’m new. Bullshit. But hey I’m not complaining.

Theses couple of days have been really nice. Liam is so sweet to me. He lets me sit in his chair because Louis doesn’t like to share his seat with anyone. But I think it’s just me. The other day some blonde girl was sitting in Louis’s seat. He didn’t even tell her to move. I thought he was over protective about his seat.

We were sitting at lunch. Everyone at this table has one thing in common… sports. While I was eating my sandwich and just listen to “who made a touchdown” or “how many homeruns they made”. I stop eating my sandwich when Emily asks me a question.

“So Morgan. Did you play any sports at your old school?” She asked.

“Well I use to play soccer.” I respond back. I glance up at Louis who is rolling his eyes at what I just said.

“I heard you guys talking about soccer. If you want Morgan, try outs are today. We really need more members since half of the team last year was seniors. “Melissa joined in.

“Don’t even waste your time trying out. Soccer is no girl game. Plus the girls’ soccer team is shit.” Louis says with annoyance.

“Shut up Louis. You sexist asshole, I wouldn’t be talking about which team is better. When was the last time you won a state trophy?” Melissa rudely asks Louis. He scowls at the question.

“Thought so. Anyways, Morgan you should try out.”

“I will.” I smile at her. My smile fades when I see Louis giving me death glares. Is he really that pissed off that I’m going to try out or the fact that Melissa told him off?

-

Throughout the day I couldn’t really focus on my classes. I was just so excited that I’ll be playing soccer again. At least it something I can’t get rid of.

The bell rings for the end of the day. I go straight to the locker rooms to get ready for tryouts. I changed into an old band shirt I brought and some old soccer shorts.

I walk outside to the field to get warmed up. Everyone is either stretching or passing the ball back and forth. I see Melissa sitting on one of the benches tightening her shin guards. I toss my bag under the bench and tie up my cleats.

After Melissa and I finish stretching she introduces me to some girls on the team before the coach shows up. He instructs us to run 5 laps around the field before we start doing drills. At the last turn of the fourth lap I see the boys’ soccer team - Including Louis- climbing the bleachers and sitting in the top corner.

“Don’t worry about them. They do this all the time. They like to watch us play. I think they’re just jealous because we’ve won state champions and they haven’t “Melissa calms me down,

I finish the last lap and coach gives us a water break. Melissa runs over and hands me a sticker with the number eleven on it.

"Put it on your shorts." She instructs

"Why?"

"So coach knows who you are during try outs."

I nod and pull off the protective film and stick it on my shorts. After everyone gets a drink of water and their own number coach gives us all positions and starts running passing drills.

After we finish the drill he starts calling names. my heart was beating faster than usual, faster after a workout. Seeing all these girls cry because they did it make made me even more nervous. Once he called my name my heart stopped.
“Morgan…. You made JV.” He yelled out. My chests relaxed after breathing harshly form the anticipation. It's a good thing Melissa is in my group because I don't know any of these other girls on the team.
-
My mom picks me up once tryouts are over. She starts talking about how we haven’t had a family dinner ever since we moved here. The past few days my mom has been too busy to cook so we've been eating fast food. Are dinners usually consisting of Pizza hut or whenever dad is feeling fancy we get Chinese take-out. I guess she started cooking since we finished unpacking everything into the house.

Once I walk into the house the scent of meatloaf & mashed potatoes. God I hate potatoes and meatloaf.
“Tell me again why we didn’t order pizza?” I ask her while I dropped my bag onto the polished wooden floor.
“Because all that fast food isn’t good for you. Plus, we need to have our first dinner in our new house.” She replies. I roll my eyes and make my way to the stairs.
“Young lady. I think you’re forgetting something?” She points at my bag next to her.
“Ugh. I’m already up two steps. I think I’ll get it later.” I run upstairs to my room before she makes me get my bag.
I take a quick shower. I dry my hair and put on my oversized t shirt my grandpa gave me for my 15th birthday and my pj shorts. I run downstairs after I finished getting ready.

Mom and dad were sitting across from each other and I was in the middle. Silence filled the room. You can only hear the forks coming into contact with the meatloaf. Who the hell even invited meatloaf? I just stare at my plate. I take small bites from my mashed potatoes. My mother isn’t the best cook. I remember when I was in elementary school she tried to bake cookies for my class but she ended up burning them. Childhood well spent.
“So… How was your day hunny?” My dad asked me before gulping down his coke.
“Good.” I mumbled not making any eye contact with him.
“How did try outs go?” My mom asked.
“I made the team.” I replied stuffing my mouth with potatoes so I wouldn’t answer anymore off their nosy questions.
“Wow! Congrats hunny. Maybe you and I can play a game together.” My dad says.
“Well, you can’t really play with only two people. Doesn’t work like that.” I replied annoyed.
“Morgan don’t be rude.” My mother defends my dad.
“I’m finished. I’m going to my room. Goodnight. “I picked up my plate and placed it in the sink. I grabbed my slice of cake that was for dessert and head up stairs
I jump on top of my bed making some of my pillows fall off. I place the plate on my belly and take huge bites of the chocolate cake. Now that is a dinner I can eat always. I wanted to say something about the meatloaf but I know my mom would be sad about it. I grabbed my phone and ear buds and turn the volume all the way up. I skip through three songs until an Arctic Monkeys song played. My eyes were feeling heavy but when my phone starting buzzing.
