Welcome To Straight Camp

A Payne-ful Wedding

Ruth had been talking about her wedding for months, and finally the day had arrived. Liam was secretly glad that all the planning and all the complaining would finally be over. Of course he was happy about her finally marrying the man of 'her dreams' as she labelled him, but the butterflies in the pit of his stomach were enough to distract him on the hour long car drive to the venue. He was proud to finally get to show off his boyfriend Billy to his family, Billy was a year younger than him and Liam was lucky enough to meet him at the local store where they had both started working at the beginning of January, ever since then they had been growing closer and closer until it finally happened.

Liam had kissed the younger boy right on his tiny mouth in the middle of the supply closet and to his delight, Billy kissed him back willingly. This was six months ago at least, the boys hadn't told their parents for a while, which worked out to their advantage mostly, sleepovers weren't supervised so they could snog all they wanted without parents barging in to make sure they were behaving, in fact that was exactly how they had lost their virginities. Liam was sleeping over at Billy's one night when the younger lad had slipped his hands inside his pants for the first time. Liam was electrified with excitement as his boyfriend's small hands grazed his semi hard. It all went up hill from then on. They explored each other just like they had always wanted to, spending the entire night experimenting, and letting their bodies do the talking. It was worth the sore bottoms the next day because they had made love, a love that they thought they would have forever. Now here they were, sitting hand in hand in the back seat of Liam's parents car. They had officially been an outed couple for three weeks and although their parents weren't too excited by the idea, they hadn't put up a fuss or banned them from being together.

Billy was biting his lower lip, something Liam could never resist. Instead of reaching over to kiss his lover, he stayed there allowing his cheeks to blush as he admired his beautiful, angelic face. He hadn't even noticed the car was parked until Billy turned around and laughed at him. "We're here babe." He said nervously, Liam could tell he was nervous about meeting his whole family, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandparents, everyone. Liam understood this because he too felt the commotion going on inside his nervous system. He hadn't told anybody he was gay, only his sisters and his parents knew about his relationship with Billy so he had no idea what to expect at all. "Liam hurry up!" His Dad knocked on the window, causing both boys to jump. Billy unbuckled his seat belt and climbed out of the car, awkwardly walking around to open Liam's door like a gentleman. "You are too cute for words." Liam mumbled into his ear as the two of them started walking over to the service hand in hand. It was Nicola who ran over to them first. "Gammie is here." She hissed at Liam who automatically felt ill, Gammie was his mother's grandma, the kind that was very judgemental, she scared Liam even before he knew he was gay.

"Do you think she will say anything?" Liam whispered, pulling his sister and boyfriend away from the crowd. Nicola shrugged. "You never know with that old bat!" Liam groaned, burying his face in Billy's shoulder. "If she does I have your back, okay?" She smiled, kissing both boys on the cheeks. Liam smiled a little, his stomach had calmed down. It shouldn't be too bad, right? Every extended family had one gay couple - maybe he was that guy. When the service started Liam and Billy were seated in the front row, still hand in hand, Gammie who unfortunately was sitting behind them started whispering to everyone around her. "When I were their age, it was a private thing. Being gay was only acceptable inside your own homes." She scoffed, a little louder than she probably should have. Thankfully Ruth was married without any dramatic scenes, because what happened at the reception wouldn't have gone down well during the ceremony. Ruth would have hated him forever.

Liam was seated with Nicola and her husband, as well as Billy of course. Ruth had come over to say hello when Gammie made her move. "You look beautiful Ruthie, good to see you lost all that weight around your hips. It wasn't flattering at all honey." Ruth smiled politely, feeling awful from the old woman's comment, although she couldn't deny the dieting she had gone through to fit into the perfect dress. "Thanks Gammie." She said sweetly, taking a seat beside Billy, who was playing with Liam's hair. This was unacceptable to Gammie, not acceptable at all. "I think you should have told your brother to keep his homosexual displays to himself, it's just sick to be doing that at a wedding of all places!" She exclaimed, expecting Ruth to agree with her. "Liam can display affection to whoever he is dating, man or woman Gammie, he is my brother and I don't care who he chooses to love." She said sternly, causing the old woman to frown. "You don't honestly approve of this disgusting behavior do you?" She asked nodding towards Billy, who's hand immediately dropped from Liam's as he turned around. "Hey! You have no right to call us disgusting mam!" He near-yelled at her, causing guests to all crowd around.

"I beg your pardon young man, that is no way to talk to a woman!" She scoffed at an equal volume. "I love Liam! I am going to talk to you how I please because you just called your own great-grandson disgusting" He pointed out, feeling rage fill his whole body. It was to the point where everyone was staring at them, and even Liam started feeling embarrassed. Ruth stood between them both. "Just stop! they are gay and you don't like it, this is my wedding! Stop making things about you Gammie!" She ran off in a fume, her sister and mother running after her, making Liam feel awful. Gammie raised her finger at Billy, and then over at Liam.

"Look what you have done, disgraced your family." She spat before waddling away with her walking stick. The car ride home was awkward, nobody spoke. Nobody had anything to say anyway. Liam's mother was torn between sticking up for Liam and trying to calm down her grandmother who she respected and loved. Liam didn't even kiss Billy goodnight when they pulled up outside of his house. It wasn't looking good for them, it wasn't looking good for anybody.

So far I'm really enjoying this. It's so good I posted a link to it on Tumblr :) This reminds me of a movie I partially saw with the same concept and I can't tell you how much the idea of "Straight Camp" sickens me, people should be able to love whoever they choose and this story is great for doing that, even if it does use 1D as its' main characters ;)
