Miss Masquerade
Prologue
Maria's POV
"Pleeease," Spencer, my best friend, pleaded. She was on her knees, her bottom lip out, and her hands clasped together.
"No, you know I don't like going to 'popular people' parties," I barked at her. She should know this by now.
"But no one will know who anyone is, Maria! It's a Masquerade Ball," she said, in a duh voice.
I thought it over. I've always been a shy girl, totally not into the popular crowd like Spencer was. But if they don't know who I am, what does it matter?
"But what if you-know-who is there," I ask. "And you know Liam and them will find a way to find out who everyone is."
"I assure you, no one will know who you are. I swear on my mother's... diamond earrings," she said, knowing how much she liked those things. They were the size of rocks!
I sighed. "Alright," I said defeatedly. Spencer clapped her hands and smiled. Then she stopped, putting her hand on mine.
"You know you can talk to me if anything, anything at all, happens, right?" I looked at her, bewildered.
"Duh, Spencer," I said, nudging her elbow. She smiled again, but got serious.
"So I've already planned mine and your outfits. Mine is going to be..." Blah blah blah-eddy blah...." And yours is going to be a black lacy dress, with a fancy gold mask." I smiled.
"That sounds nice," I said. I lifted an eyebrow. "How did you already plan this out?" She but her lip, nervously.
"I may or may not have already bought them," she admitted. I slapped her shoulder. "Spence!"
She giggled. "Sorry, sorry! Okay, so the masquerade ball is on Friday, okay? I'll come over like two hours before the party so we can get ready, then I'll have to leave like, a half hour before so I can be ready for all the early guests," she rolled her eyes, "you know how they are. Then you can come in your car. Whatever you do, DO NOT let anyone know who you are."
