More Than a Student/Teacher Relationship

Chapter 5

Zoe’s P.O.V.

I sprayed some perfume on my body, the aroma filling the tiny bathroom. I checked my outfit one last time, smoothing out the skirt of the dress. After I was satisfied with my appearance, I went back into my room, picking up my vibrating phone from the purple duvet covering my bed. A text from Dani showed, saying Liam would be around to pick me up shortly. I replied, saying I was ready whenever he was. I’m so happy Dani found someone like Liam. For a long time, she went out with any guy who showed any interest, and was left with a shattered heart after they had had their way with her. However, Liam is different. He treats her like she’s a queen, something I have always admired about him. Liam is perfect for Danielle, I can only hope Harry is as perfect for me. I made my way down to the kitchen, where my mom was eating some yogurt for breakfast. “Hey, Mom,” I greeted, going into the cupboard to grab a protein bar before Liam arrived. I really need to get my own car. Unfortunately, I need a job first, as there is no way my mother would pay for my car, considering she is all about learning responsibility.
“Morning, Zoe,” my mom replied to my hello. “Who’s picking you up today?”
“Liam.” She smiled warmly at his name, her eyes twinkling. She has always adored Liam; to her, he is the perfect boy. To be honest though, most of the time he is.
“Wonderful. I do hope he hurries, however, or the two of you will be late.” I glanced at the clock, noticing that if he isn’t here in the next five minutes, we will be late. I checked outside, and sure enough, Liam was just pulling up.
“He’s here, Mom! I’ll see you later! Love you!”
“Love you too! Say hello to Liam for me!”
“I will!” I opened the door, right as Liam was putting his knuckle up to knock.
“What are you, psychic?” I rolled my eyes at his comment, brushing past him to get into his car.
“What do you think, Liam?” He chuckled at my answer, climbing into the driver’s seat.
“Where’s Dani?” I asked. They usually drive together.
“Her mum wanted to talk to her about something, so she was getting a ride from her.” I noticed he seemed a little worried as he told me that.
“Did she tell you what about?”
“No, but her mum was yelling at her when I called. I couldn’t understand what she was saying, though. I think she said something about school?” He looked upset, clearly distraught over the fact his girlfriend might be in trouble, and it could possibly be his fault.
“Don’t worry, Li. You’re the perfect boyfriend, you didn’t do anything. Whatever happened isn’t your fault.” I patted his arm reassuringly, to which he gave me a thankful smile.
“Thank you, Zoe.”
“Anytime.” We pulled up at school, Liam parking the car close to our usual hang-out, where Louis, El, Zayn, Perrie, and Niall all sat around a troubled looking Dani. As soon as Liam saw her, he shot out of the car, and ran over to where Dani was laying on Perrie’s shoulder. I hurried out as well, wanting to know what was causing my friend such dismay. “What happened?” I asked as I reached her, taking a seat on the stair in front of her.
“She’s failing chem, so she’s grounded,” El answered for her.
“Oh, babe, I’m so sorry,” I soothed, leaning on her leg.
“That’s not all, though. Her mum said that if she doesn’t have at least a “B” by the end of the semester, she has to quit dance.” At that, Dani started sobbing, leaning over to hide her face in Liam’s shoulder, while he rubbed her back soothingly.
“Hey, it’s okay, I’d tutor you if I was any good at chem, but I’m not. Louis! You’re amazing at chemistry, you should do it!” El cheered, turning to her boyfriend expectantly. He looked kind of bewildered for a moment, but nodded.
“Of course. I’d be happy to.”
“Yay!” El kissed Louis’ cheek, laying her head on his shoulder.
“Thanks, Lou,” Dani said, looking up at him gratefully.
“No problem.”
“C’mon guys, the bell’s going to ring soon, we should go inside,” Niall said, talking for the first time since I arrived. Everyone stood to go, but I grabbed Niall’s arm, pulling him back.
“Niall, why were you so upset when I told you about me and Harry?” I asked. His facial features hardened, his blue eyes avoiding my own.
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea.” I rolled my eyes, knowing there was more to it than that.
“Niall, please, I know something else is going on. Just tell me.”
“There’s nothing, Zoe. Just leave it alone.” With that, he walked away, leaving me alone on the steps, confused and sad. I might have just lost one of my best friends, and I don’t even know why. But, I think Liam does.

It was third period again, and I decided I would talk to Liam about what is going on with Niall. When he told be the yesterday to give Niall some space, he looked like he knew why he stormed out. Like he wanted to tell me, but couldn’t. I need to know what’s going on. I took my seat behind Liam, and tore out a piece of paper. On it, I wrote: Tell me what’s up with Niall. I need the truth. Don’t leave anything out. I folded it up, and threw it on Liam’s desk. He turned and looked at me quizzically, but I avoided his gaze. He sighed and turned around, opening the note I gave him. I noticed his body stiffen, and how he hastily wrote a message back. Right before Harry walked in, he placed it on the corner of my desk. I decided to wait to see what he wrote, as Harry was beginning class. We were talking about oxymorons and paradoxes, which I already knew about, so I sat and doodled in my notebook. “Miss Kay?” I heard Harry ask. I looked up at him, a blush hinting at my cheeks.
“Yes, Mr. Styles?”
“I would believe this is your English class, am I correct?”
“Yes?” I squeaked, feeling embarrassed.
“Then I wonder why you decided to spend this class drawing, as it is not art.” I hurriedly closed my notebook at his words, hiding the doodles I had been making.
“Sorry, Mr. Styles.”
“I’ll speak with you after class.” He smirked, strolling back to his desk to continue his lecture. Ah, now I understand. He wanted to have an excuse to see me after class. I guess I will have to get in trouble more often. I paid attention during the rest of the class, catching Harry directing his gaze at me multiple times. The bell finally rang, and I made my way over to his desk, after El had sent me a cheeky wink, and Liam had briskly pulled her away, avoiding my eyes as he did so. Harry didn’t turn around from erasing the writing on the board until everyone in the class had left, the last student slamming the door behind him. Harry turned to face me then, his eyes sparkling mischievously. He walked over to the door first, locking it tight. He then took a step towards me, wrapping his arms around my waist. “Thank you for giving me an excuse to see you,” he whispered, planting a soft kiss right below my ear.
“Anytime.” He chuckled, running his hands along my sides. He nudged me cheek with his nose, pressing his lips to the skin.
“Do you have any dinner plans?”
“No, why?”
“I was wondering if you might want to come over.”
“Sure. I’ll just tell my mom I’m going to Perrie’s or something.” He looked at me apologetically, lifting my chin up with his finger.
“I’m sorry you have to lie to your mum, I hate that I have to make you do that.”
“It’s okay, we’ll figure this out. Once I graduate, it won’t matter, and I can tell her.” A smile adorned his features, as he kissed me once quickly.
“You think we’ll still be together then?”
“I want to be.” He glanced behind me, looking up at the clock.
“You should go, I’m sure your friends are waiting for you.” I nodded, leaning up to kiss his lips, before leaving his strong arms and unlocking the door. I left the classroom, making my way through the empty halls to my locker, where I grabbed my lunch and headed to the cafeteria. When I arrived, I immediately went over to my friends, who had waited until I got there to do our food ritual.
“Hey guys, sorry I took so long, thanks for waiting for me.” Everyone nodded, dumping their food into the middle of the table. I snagged a pack of gummy bears, a turkey sandwich, a banana, and a brownie.
“So, what did Mr. Styles want?” Perrie asked, taking a bite of her tuna sandwich.
“What do you think he wanted? Hello, they are secretly dating,” El giggled, biting off the end of a stick of celery. I noticed Niall was sitting quietly, when usually he is the center of the conversation. I decided to ignore it though, remembering the note Liam passed back. I decided I would open it after school, before I went to Harry’s.

School was over, so I was walking with Zayn and Perrie, who were giving me a ride home. “Thanks for the ride, Zayn.”
“Anything for my best girl.” Perrie feigned hurt, clutching at her chest.
“I thought I was your best girl?” Zayn smiled, wrapping his arms around Perrie’s waist.
“No, you’re my favorite, most perfect girl, which is way better.” Perrie giggled, colliding her lips with Zayn’s. They started making out, making me groan. I think they might be the horniest couple I have ever met, that is a serious relationship.
“Hey guys! PDA alert! You can stop now!” Perrie giggled, breaking her kiss with Zayn. “C’mon, let’s go!” I climbed into the backseat, as Perrie took the passenger side and Zayn sat in the driver’s seat. During the ride, Perrie was the only one talking, and all she would talk about is her favorite clothing store. She can be really annoying sometimes, but is the perfect friend to go to if you need a distraction. Zayn dropped me off, and I hurried inside, noticing my mom was still at work. As soon as I was inside, I headed into my room, sitting on the bed and taking out the note. In his perfect handwriting, Liam had wrote I can’t tell you. He’ll tell you himself when he’s ready, trust me. I groaned in annoyance, frustrated Liam hadn’t explained what happened. I laid down on my bed, pulling my laptop next to me. Time for some Netflix action.

It was five-forty-five, fifteen minutes before Harry texted me to be at his place. I headed out of my house, leaving a note on the counter to my mom saying I was going to Perrie’s for dinner. When I arrived at Harry’s place, I didn’t even have to knock on the door before it was swung open. Harry smiled down at me, grabbing my hand and pulling me inside. He pushed the door closed, attaching his lips to mine. It took me by surprise, but I quickly started to kiss back. His hands gripped my hips, his tongue invaded my mouth. We would have continued, if the fucking kitchen timer hadn’t gone off right at that moment. “I should probably go get that.”
“Yeah, you probably should.”

Two hours later, we had eaten dinner, and were cuddled up on the couch. “How were you planning on getting home? It’s dark, I don’t want you walking.” I smiled at his protective behavior, looking up at his serious face.
“I texted Perrie. You can drop me off at her house, and she will drive me home, so my mom doesn’t have any questions.” He nodded, placing a kiss on my cheek.
“We should probably go then, it’s getting late.”
“Yeah, okay.” I stood up, pulling Harry with me. He held my hand as he lead me out to his car. He opened my door for me, making me smile and thank him. He got into his seat, starting the car and backing out onto the road. The whole ride, his hand never left mine. I told him where Perrie lives, and he parked in front of her house. “I’ll see you at school tomorrow,” I said, turning to look at his face. He smiled, leaning over and giving me a quick kiss.
“Goodbye, love.”
“Bye.” I hopped out of his car, waving goodbye as he sped down the street. Perrie ran out of her house then, shouting out at me.
“Zoe!” I turned, seeing her motioning me towards her car. I walked up at her, smiling like an idiot. “Well, someone’s happy.” I giggled climbing into her car. “How’d it go?” she asked as she started her car, pulling out of the driveway.
“Amazing. He is so perfect, Perrie. I don’t know how I was lucky enough to get him.”
“Well, I’m glad your happy.” She drove the short distance to my house, and I noticed my mom’s car parked in the driveway. “I’ll see you tomorrow!” she shouted as I left her car.
“Bye!” I ran up to the door, opening it and heading to my room to change into my pajamas.
“Hey, Zoe! Did you have fun?” Mom asked as I passed the living room, where she sat reading a book.
“Yeah, I’m really tired though, I’m going to bed. Night!”
“Night sweetie.” I hurried into my bedroom, getting under the covers. That night I dreamed of graduating and telling the world about Harry and I.
