Little Competition

Chapter 2

"Shakespeare wrote many of today's romantic classics. And, I believe the school should make it required to read Shakespeare in English classes." Gregory said, finishing his report. He smiled, eyes wide behind thick rimmed glasses.
"Thank you, Mr. Hass. That was very good." Gregory nodded, as if to say, Of course it is! I could hear students muttering under their breath.
"Geek."
"Nerd."
"Mr. Smarty-Pants."
I sighed, but didn't say another word.
"Please, sit down." The teacher, Mr. Gens, said. Gregory nodded, and walked away, sticking his nose in the air. He sat down in his front row desk, and stared foreword. I rolled my eyes.
"Miss Elizabeth. Would you care to share your report with the class." I froze, feeling icy stares aimed my way.
"Uh, sure." I said, standing up. I looked down at my shoes, wanting to run away. I walked to the front of the class, holding my report in front of me. The people in the back were tossing notes, people in the middle leaning against their desks, twirling their pencils, and the front rows were sticking their noses up, as if to say, I did the best. I looked at my report.
"For my most inspirational role model, I chose the band...One Direction." People held back snickers, but a few boys let them out. Mr. Gens glared at them, causing them to stop. I sighed, and looked at my paper again, "One Direction started out just like you and me. Just five boys from small towns, living lives similar to ours." A few people looked at me, interested in what I had to say. "Niall. He was just a boy like us. Getting in trouble for singing Irish songs in class." I laughed a little, and a couple other secret "Directioners" did too. "Liam. He was bullied in school. But he stood up for himself, and is now one of the most famous boys in the world." More eyes stared, finally interested. "Louis. He loved to be clown around in class." A few of the boys looked my way. "Zayn. He grew up in a small home. Not a lot of money, and not very popular either." A few looked away, feeling the connection, but not wanting people to know. "But, they all auditioned for the X-Factor. They became a band together, and soon became the number one boy band in the world, although getting third in the X-Factor. They beat the odds, and are now the most famous band known today." I looked at the class, half actually watching, the other half pretending to not care. I looked over at Victoria, who was smiling, thumbs up. I managed a weak smile.
"Excellent. Please, take a seat, Elizabeth." I nodded, and slowly walked to my desk, face down. I sat in my desk, letting my dark brown hair surround my face, concealing me from the others.
"We will finish presentations tomorrow." Mr. Gens said, as the bell rang. I grabbed my stuff, waiting for Tori to arrive at my side.
"You would choose One Direction." She said, with a sigh. I rolled my eyes.
"Who did you choose? Christopher Ecclestian?" I asked. She smiled.
"Nope."
"Who?" I asked.
"David Tennant." She said as we walked out of the door. I groaned.
"Shocker." I said, smiling.
"Hey, at least I didn't choose One Direction. Oh, Niall. He sang Irish songs in his class. He's mister wonderful!" She mocked. I shoved her lightly. "See ya later. Gotta get to class."
"Since when did you care about class?" I called.
"Since I realized I didn't have to go!" I shook my head, walking to the end of the hall until I reached the sign-up sheet for the Talent Show. I grabbed a pen, signing my name in blue. I added a little heart for good measure, and walked away.
