Worlds Apart

Alayna’s POV:
“Goodbye.” Jade gave me one last hug then walked away. I stood there thinking of what she said and smiled. “Maybe right now is the right time to take a risk.” I took a deep breath then made my way home.

“Time to make this right.” I grabbed my phone and dialled Harry’s number. “That’s odd.” I felt a weird tingling in my spine. Harry never missed any call. He always made sure to answer the phone no matter where he was.

“Maybe he’s taking this harder than I expected.” I closed my eyes then took another big breath. “He needs his space. Give him that.” I nodded and walked faster. “And I need to sleep.” I rubbed my forehead and sighed.

“What’s that?” I was almost at my residence when I heard sirens coming from somewhere near. I tried to look around if anyone were making a fuss about it but I guess it’s already too late at night for a big fuss.

“I guess it’s nothing.” I just opened the door of my building when I heard the sound of the sirens grow louder. I closed the door then walked towards the sirens. “I hope no one’s hurt.” I always get curious and I guess this was my curiosity kicking in.

I’ve been walking not too long when the lights grew clearer and brighter. There weren’t much people on the scene but the medics, so I kept a good distance away from it. I squinted my eyes to try and look closer and noticed that they were pulling someone out from a car. It looks like it was a collision and it looked pretty bad for the car.

“Oh god.” I held a hand up to my mouth and felt remorse for the driver being pulled out of the car. I took a step back as I decided to leave these all alone. “Oh no. Oh god, please no.” Before I turned around, something caught my eye.

“It can’t be.” I walked closer, maybe ran but got stopped immediately by authorities. “Excuse me, miss. You can’t be here.” I shook my head; my whole body was shaking. “Please, just let me see him. It can’t be. It can’t be!”

“Miss, just take a deep breath and step away.” I maneuvered my way out of the medic’s arm. “Miss, don’t. You can’t be here.” I ignored everyone that was running towards me but I ran faster towards the ambulance. “No, it can’t be. Harry!”

Harry’s POV:
“No, no.” I tried to make my way out of my crushed car but I can’t seem to move a muscle. “I suggest you relax, sir. It’ll be easier for us to help you.” I shook my head and like a comet plummeting to earth, the pain hit me all at once.

“Prepare the stretcher!” The person beside me yelled and my head ached more. “Stop! Stop. . .please.” I tried to raise my hand but even that was hard to do. I don’t know how long I’ve been just sitting there paralyzed, but it felt like years.

“Easy, easy.” I closed my eyes but I still felt the two set of hands that were pulling me up and out of the wreck. There were lots of noise and different voices here and there but nothing sounded familiar.

“He’s condition is critical.” I tried to sit up to see if anyone else was hurt but they pushed me down. “Is---is a--an--any…one h--hurt?” They pushed me down again and strapped me to the stretcher. The medic that was helping me was talking to me with medical jargons; even with my brain non-jammed, I wouldn’t have understood what he just said.

“Harry!” There were lots of strange and unfamiliar noises and voices when one very familiar voice popped out. “A--a--l…” Before I could even finish, an oxygen mask was put on my face.

“Harry.” She made her way in the ambulance. I noticed that the medic hesitated in letting her in but let her in otherwise. “A--a--” I raised my hand and touched her cheeks. She smiled yet there were tears falling from her eyes.

“What happened?” She held my hands and it felt comforting; it felt like a blanket on a cold, cold night. “I--I--” Tears ran freely from her eyes. I wanted to wipe it but she held her grip tighter. “Sssh. Don’t say anything.” Her lips quivered and her eyes were swollen.

“Ar--are y-y-you…” She looked down and wiped her own tears. “I’m fine Harry. We’re fine. You’re going to be fine, promise?” I nodded and tried to smile but it hurt even more. “After you get better, we’ll go out…on a real date. I promise.” She smiled and tears continuously flowed from her eyes.

“I--m l--loo--king for--ward…” She shook her head and laughed. “Me too. You have to make sure you’ll be a hundred percent okay when we go, I have something very important to tell you.” She rested her head beside me and I lifted my hand with great effort and placed it on her back.

“I--I lo--love…” She looked up and her eyes twinkled. I closed my eyes to pull more strength out of me but when I was ready to open my eyes, it felt harder than ever. Darkness embraced me like a long lost son; it should have felt comforting but all I wanted was to see the light in her eyes one more time.
