The Aftermath

Harry's POV:

I sat on my bed, notepad in hand and scribbled around on it. After I had cooled down from my little confrontation with Cassie, words just flew around in my head, and before I knew what I was doing, a song formed on the paper. I hummed softly while adding some finishing touches. A knock on the door got me out of my zone. I wondered who it was. They had left me alone for the last hour, only faint music and laughter disturbing me.

“Come in,” I said loudly and was surprised when Zayn entered. “What do you want?” I asked a bit aggravated. He scratched the back of his head, and I could see how uncomfortable he probably was.

“I wanted to talk to you about what I did. I know you like her, too, and I guess I'm really sorry,” he began to explain. I let out a frustrated grunt and got up from the bed.

“Man, you blindsided me. I was gonna get to know her better, and you just stormed in and conquered,” I said. He shifted his weight around before coming to sit on the bed next to me. His head hung low.

“I wanted her so badly, Harry. You don't see her in the mornings when she just woke up and stumbles around the bathroom in just a shirt. It's the most adorable and hottest sight ever,” he explained. I smiled half-heartedly. “And she just wants to keep it physical anyways. She's not looking for a relationship, mate.”

“I know. But I had this feeling that she could be the one, you know?” I voiced my thoughts. He patted me on the back a few times, knowing exactly what I wanted so badly and what hadn't happened for me so far. I wanted to fall in love, head over heels, and finally find the right girl for me.

“She's different, Harry. I don't know, but she seems... something's not right. I can tell. I don't think she would be good relationship-material anyways,” he tried to comfort me. I sighed and decided to get out of this funk.

“Anyways, a good shag would have been nice,” I said suggestively and looked at him literally with a question mark on my face. He knew what I was at and laughed happily.

“She was awesome. Funny, passionate, and not afraid to try new things. I'm sorry to rub it in, but it was the best shag I had in years,” he said and I punched him in the arm.

“Asshole,” I grinned and he pulled me in for a tight hug. He was one of my best mates, after all, and I couldn't stay mad at him for long.

“I'm glad we made up,” he said and shot me a winning smile. I nodded and got up from the bed.

“So, what are we doing now?” I asked.

“They were just about to start a movie when I left. Wanna join?” he asked while getting up towards the door. I shrugged my shoulders an followed him.

“Sure, why not?” I said. What's the worst that could happen anyways?

Cassie's POV:

I looked up from my space on the couch when I heard Zayn and Harry chatting happily. My heart skipped a beat and then I felt a huge wave of relief rush over me. Thank god. The two of them came into the living room and Zayn nestled on his spot beside me, whereas Harry sat down on the floor in front of me. I shot Zayn a questioning look and he mouthed “Everything's fine” back at me. I grinned blissfully. He leant down and nuzzled my neck with his mouth, making me giggle with joy.

“Will you stop it, you two? Some of us are trying to watch a movie!” Louis said in a fake stern voice. I simply threw a pillow at him, an action I would regret a second later. He just flung it right back at me with more force, followed by his whole body which landed on top of Zayn, Liam and me. “Pillow fight!” he yelled and before I knew what was going on, cushions and pillows were flying around everywhere, and we were all on top of each other. I swear to god, sometimes they really were just boys.

Zayn tried to grab me by the waist to bring me down to the floor with him, but I took a swing at him with the huge pillow I had in my hand and he stumbled right into Louis, who continued my good work. I laughed so hard, I didn't know Liam had come up from behind me and flung himself right at me. Together, we sailed on the couch and he buried me under his body, tickling every inch of skin he could find.

“Liam... stop... please.... NO!” I tried to beg in between fits of laughter. He was nearly killing me. Suddenly, his weight got lifted off and I saw that Harry was my knight in shining armour. Him and Liam engaged in a pillow duel, whereas I was just focused on not getting tickled or hit anymore. Thankfully for me, Niall and Demi had their own little fight going on, which, by the looks of it, didn't really involve a lot of fighting, and Zayn was still occupied with Louis. As fast as I could, I ran towards my room to get my camera. This was just brilliant. No one noticed me while I came back and took as many shots of the action as I could.

“She got away!” Louis suddenly screamed and pointed at me, and they all went after me. My eyes widened in shock, and before I could move, strong hands had me on the floor, while another grabbed the camera out of my grip. The tickling and fighting started again, which was really unfair this time, because I had Zayn, Harry and Louis all going for me. I tried to fight back as best as I could, sending hits and scratching around, but it was soon so unbearable that I went to my last resort. Harry was closest to me at that moment and I lunged up at him enough to sink my teeth right into his shoulder. He screamed a little and let go in an instant. Louis' hand was around my shoulders, and I did the same to him. He let go of me as well, and now it was only Zayn towering over me. He looked at the wincing boys with a shocked expression on his face before he fixated on me.

“Want one too?” I asked cheekily and showed him my teeth. He got off of me in a flash. I learnt last night that he didn't like to be bitten except while kissing, and I knew he was defeated. I got up and flattened my sweater, looking around proudly. Demi, Niall and Liam were on the couch, laughing uncontrollably. “Victory,” I announced and stuck both fists in the air. Applause followed. I grabbed my camera back from Liam and decided to call it a night on the boys. Too much action. “Alright, I still have to work a bit. Enjoy your movie,” I waved and left the room, not before locking eyes with Zayn. He knew I wanted him in my bed tonight. He nodded slightly and grinned. Yes! He was hooked.

The next morning, I got up really early. Shoving Zayn's hand off my body, I crawled out of bed and went to my dresser to find something to wear. I had a few interviews today, before I would be heading over to the SNL studio. I still had a week before my appearance, but it was a good thing hanging around there now, getting to know the whole process. Besides, this week's host was Ryan Reynolds and I really liked him. He was a funny guy, and apart from his new jealous wife who dropped by, like every 2 hours, I really enjoyed his company.

I gave Zayn a little peck on the cheek and went into the kitchen to make myself a quick cup of tea when I bumped into Liam.

“Hey, Liam, what are you doing up so early?” I asked cheerfully.

“Oh, hey Cassie. I didn't sleep so well last night,” he said a bit sadly. I looked at him critically.

“Everything alright? You look a bit depressed,” I asked him. He rolled around the cup in his hands and sighed.

“I'll be fine, it's just... well, I've only been single for three months now, and Dani just keeps popping back into my thoughts. Being cooped up in an apartment doesn't really help with distraction,” he confessed. I thought for a quick moment before I grabbed his hand.

“Get dressed, you're coming with me,” I smiled at him. His eyes sparkled slightly with excitement.

“But I thought you had to work today?” he asked.

“I do, but it's just three short interviews and then I'm off to the studio. You know the guys, they will cheer you up,” I winked.

“You sure?” he asked one last time.

“Absolutely! Now, off you go!” I laughed and shoved him in the direction of his room.

I smiled, content with myself. I wanted to hang with Liam; not only was it good for publicity, but he really needed a distraction, and I had just the right one for him. He was a great guy and I wanted to help him.

Liam's POV:

I watched Cassie giver her second radio interview with a huge smile on my face. She was really good with people. They all just pretty much asked her the same questions, but she answered politely every time.

“So, tell me, Cassandra, who are you actually staying with here in New York? We all saw the pictures of you and the boys of One Direction, and it seemed like you were staying in the same house together,” the reporter suddenly asked. That was a new one. Cassie laughed her adorable little laugh and answered.

“We're all staying with a really good friend of mine, but I'm sure some of the fans might've already guessed it,” she said vaguely.

“So, you knew the boys before?” the reporter continued on.

“No, I met them for the first time last week. They're all great guys,” she said.

“I can see that,” the reporter said suggestively and looked over at me. My eyes widened. He wasn't gonna ask her why I was with her, was he? I held my breath, but he continued on to the next topic. We were out of there 10 minutes later.

“I thought he was gonna grill you about me,” I said to her once we were in her car. She smiled and put down the water bottle she was holding.

“Mike wouldn't do that, he knows his boundaries;” she answered. “But I'm pretty sure there'll be loads of pictures of us tomorrow.” I sighed slightly. “But that's not a bad thing, is it?” she suddenly asked, looking alerted.

“No, of course not,” I gave her a reassuring smile. “It's pretty hard for us to go anywhere without paparazzi, anyways. I should be used to it by now,” I explained. She took my cold hand into her warm one and squeezed it comfortingly.

“You never get used to it. At least, no one in their right mind does. Only divas,” she grinned. “Do you want to be a diva, Liam Payne?”

“No, of course not!” I laughed and we continued our ride in comfortable silence.

When the car stopped and we got out, my sight fell upon a serious-looking university building.

“You're doing an interview here?” I asked surprised.

“Not quite. It's a surprise,” she gave me her famous crooked smile and my heart sank into a lower region of my body. Damn it, why did she have to be so hot? We entered and she motioned towards a lecture room on our left. “Go in there and sit down. I hope you don't mind, but we're gonna be here a while,” she said and left me by myself, dumbfounded. I snapped out of my confusion and entered the room, feeling slightly uncomfortable. I was never really good at school, and this room was filled with serious students, all typing away on their laptops. All I had was my phone. Great. I sat down at the very back, whereas all the people who came in tried to get a seat straight at the front. They all seemed super excited. What was going on? I pretty, brunette girl sat down next to me, and I could tell she looked familiar. She smiled at me and just sat there awkwardly. Unlike the other students, she didn't pull out any computer or notepad. She looked at me again and realisation dawned on her face. Damn it, she had recognised me.

“Cassie dragged you here, too?” she asked to my surprise. Then I knew who she was. Behati Prinsloo, famous model and one of Cassie's best friends. I laughed and held out my hand towards hers.

“She did. I'm Liam,” I introduced myself.

“Behati,” she grinned and we started chatting. She was gorgeous and really nice, as it turns out.

A couple of minutes later, silence came over the room as a professor entered. Behati and I straightened up and listened, anxious for what would come now. The room was crammed with people at that point.

“Hello everyone, welcome to our 5th session on English poetry,” he said and Behati and I both groaned. Why did Cassie drag us here? “We have a special guest lecturer today and by looking at your unbelievably huge attendance, I take it that you know who she is,” the man continued. Some students cheered.

“What the...” I started, looking at Behati. Cassie was not seriously holding a lecture on English poetry now, was she?

“She is an actress, yes, but today, in this room, I want you to see her as a fellow scholar and someone who has a lot of expertise in this specific area we are dealing with today: the Sonnets and poetry of the First World War. Please welcome my fellow Oxford graduate Cassandra Kennedy, BA,” he said and gestured towards the door, where Cassie was leaning against the wall, waiting. She smiled and came up to the desk.

“Thank you so much for having me, Professor Caldwell,” her voice rang through the room after the applause had died down. The professor sat down on a chair in the corner and Cassie started.

Even though I never in a million years would have attended a lecture on war poetry by my own free will, I found myself drawn into the topic after only about 10 minutes. Cassie was fantastic. She didn't just talk about facts, she made it absolutely entertaining to watch. Talking about all those emotions that must have gone through the author's mind wile at the front was like watching her act. I absolutely believed she had been there herself, and I was quite sure some female students were crying. And that with a topic like that! Wow! I had no idea she was so skilled in public speaking. One and a half hours later, Bahati and I clapped frantically along with the other students when Cassie closed the lecture. They cornered her immediately after that, some asking topic-related questions, others getting autographs and photos.

“Wanna wait outside?” Behati asked and I was glad she didn't wanna go down there.

“Sure, let's go,” I said and she took my hand so as not to loose me in the mass of students that were streaming out of the room. We went to the right side of the building were we found a nice little bench.

“That was amazing,” Behati said as we both sat down. “I had no idea. I knew she went to university before she became famous, but that... that's just plain awesome,” she mused. I looked at her beautiful face from the side and she turned to grin at me. I swear to god, my heart almost skipped a beat.

“You're awesome,” I couldn't help the word vomit coming out of my mouth. My eyes widened when I had said it, but to my surprise, she laughed a girly little laugh and I saw her cheeks blush. Was I doing that to her?

“Thanks, Liam,” she said shyly and for a moment, we just grinned at each other. Then her look fixated on someone behind me and I turned around to see Cassie approaching us. She had a huge smile on her face.

“English poetry, huh?” I said when she came closer.

“Yes, English war poetry,” she emphasised the word 'war'. “Did you guys like it?” she asked enthusiastically. We both nodded and gave her a few compliments when the car turned up on the pavement. “Alright, let's get to the studio. Behati, you joining us?” Cassie asked.

“Nah, thanks, I'd rather go get myself a cup of coffee and take a walk. The weather's so nice today,” she said casually. “Hey, um... Liam, do you wanna join me... perhaps?” she continued on and I was actually speechless for a few seconds.

“Um... yeah, absolutely. I'd love to!” I found my voice again and we both got up from the bench.

“Alright, then. Thx for coming, B!” Cassie said and hugged her friend tightly. “See ya later, Liam,” she then winked at me and got in the car.

“So... where to now?” I asked, shoving my hands down my pockets. Behati grinned her absolutely lovely grin and took one of them in her hand.

“I know just the place.”
