My Reason To Stay *On Hold*
Chapter 3
Skylar’s POV
I pulled my suitcase off my bed quickly carrying down stairs. All together there were twenty one people in my living room right now. There are nine adults, Niall’s mom and dad, Liam’s mom and dad, Zayn’s mom, Oliver’s mom, Mackenzie’s dad, and my mom and dad, they’re all in a huddle talking. While all the kids, Niall and his little sister (Megan, who is 15), Harry, Liam, Zayn, Logan, Oliver and his two little brothers (Jai and Luke, who are twins and 16), Kenzie, Louis, and I, were all freaking out.
“Okay, everyone,” My dad yelled and everyone got quiet, “I know you’re all confused and scared, but we’ll all be fine if you just stay calm and do what I say. We’re going to get in our cars now and drive to the coast. Just follow my truck and I’ll explain more when we get there.” He said before heading out the front door. The car was already packed except for my suitcase, so we crammed that in then we headed off toward the coast.
After about an hour of being in a dead silent car we reached the coast. We pulled up to a dock with a large boat attached to it. I remember when we were younger we used to take that boat to this island and Louis and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Yeah, I know it’s weird that we own an island, but considering the only thing on it is a little shack my dad built it’s not that impressive and the people that sold it to us were practically giving it away, it was maybe $500.
“Okay, so for now our number one priority is to get away from here. We wanted to take a plane, but no way we could get this many ticket in this little time. So, plan B.” My dad said before leading everyone onto the old boat. My mother constantly checked her watch, looking worried. I sat down on the floor on the boat as we started to sail away from the land.
Harry sat down next to me and casually put his arm around my shoulder. “Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yeah, I’m starting to calm down. Are you?” I asked looking up at him.
“Yeah, so do you know where we’re going?”
“I think we’re going to are island,” I said.
“You have an island?” He looked surprised.
“Yeah, my dad’s job pays a lot of money and he decided to spend it on an island,” I explained.
He stiffed a laugh then we went to silence. I wasn’t really in the mood to talk anyways.
I rested my head on his shoulder and let my eyes close for a moment before I heard someone clear their throat in front of us. My eyes met with Louis and I lifted my head off Harry’s shoulder. “What?” I asked dryly.
“I want to talk to you,” Louis said “privately.”
I groan then got up following to the inside part of the boat which was just a small bathroom and a storage area.
“Okay, I know things are weird right now, but I still want to say I’m sorry about last night,” He forced out “I just don’t think Harry is a guy that wants something serious and I don’t want you getting hurt.”
“Thanks but you barely know Harry, how would you know if he’s serious or not,” I said in a calm voice trying not to start another fight.
“I don’t know, but neither do you,” He said back.
“Well I won’t know unless I give him a chance, will I,” I rolled my eyes.
“Okay, obviously you’re not going to listen to me, but please do yourself a favor and take it slow with him. I’m going to stay out of your love-life just make sure he’s not using you,” Louis finished and walked out of the room.
I walked across the rocky sand of the island; the small shack was placed right at the edged on where it changes from beach to jungle. Dropping my bag off inside quickly then going back outside to where all of the adults were.
“So can you tell us what’s going on now?” I asked my mom.
“We decided it would be best if only the adults knew for now,” She explained in a stiff voice.
“I’m seventeen; I am practically an adult,”
“You know what I mean. Now there’s important thing to get done before dark so let my go talk to your father. Just go inside with the other kids.”
I don’t understand why she still treats me like I’m a child; everyone in my family does really. It’s annoying.
I grunted, turning around and stepping back into the shack. “Did you figure out what’s going on?” Louis asked as a plopped down leaning against the wood wall.
“No, cause ‘it’s best if only the adults know’” I said mocking my mom’s voice.
“Well we should make the best of a bad situation and go have fun, I mean we have a whole island to ourselves,” Niall said being his optimistic self.
“I’m too tired to go have fun right now,” Mackenzie huffed in response.
“Yeah, and it’s getting dark anyways,” Megan added.
As they continued to talk Harry came and stood in front of me, “Come watch the sunset with me?” He said but it came out as more of a question.
I nodded and stood up, walking outside with him. “What are you two doing?” Liam’s dad said as we passed.
“We’re going to watch the sun set,” I said not bothering to make eye contact.
I sat down on a rock that was far enough from the shack so we couldn’t hear them anymore, but we could still see them.
“So when things go back to normal, what do you think about a second date?” Harry smiled down at me.
“Hm, maybe,” I said with a giggle.
His eyes were a soft green, it made him look innocent. “You know we’ve only know each other for a few days and it’s like I’m already on vacation with you.”
“Not exactly a vacation,” I responded.
“But I’d rather be here with you, than back ‘home’.” I could feel heat rise to my face from his comment. Looking down at my feet I tried to think of a response. Nothing. He let out a little chuckle.
“What?” I said instantly.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” he smiled.
“Tell me,” I pushed.
“It’s just you so, innocent, and shy. It’s adorable,” He responded with a little smirk.
“’adorable’” I repeated with an eye roll.
“What it’s a compliment,” He said with the same smirk on his face.
“Adorable isn’t a compliment. Adorable is what you call puppies and little kid,” I huffed.
“Fine, you’re sexy,” he said with a smug look.
“And that demeaning,” I laughed.
“Okay, you’re darling, does that work?” Harry chuckled.
“I guess that works,” I said looking up at him.
For some reason I really felt the urge to kiss him; like actually kiss him, not like the other night. But I can’t. I looked away out into the ocean. The sun was half way peeking over the water still, making all the sky turn an orangey color that faded into a dark purple the farther away you looked, and the clouds were turned pink. It looked gorgeous.
“It’s beautiful,” I said looking back at him.
He just nodded his head. Still looking into my eye, he leaded down and gave me a sweet, shy kiss and for that short moment it was like nothing else it the world mattered.
