Safe heaven
An ocean of orange?
Harry's P.O.V.
"Guys can we do something special tonight?" I ask as we all sit around the hotel before our interviews for the movie. They all look up at me.
"Can we wear all orange tonight? It's Erica's mom's favorite color. And I think it would mean a lot to both of them." I ask rubbing the back of my neck.
"Awe look at Harold getting all sweet and thoughtful." Louis chimes.
"That would be pretty sick mate." Zayn adds.
"Yes! A huge sea of orange!" Niall says happily.
"That would be pretty sweet." Liam says with a grin.
"I'm in." Zayn says looking up from his phone.
"Me too!" Louis says, Liam and Niall also nod.
"Great!" I say smiling. Tonight is going to be great I can feel it.
Paul announces that it's time to leave for the interviews and we all follow him.
We all tweet out about the orange out in hopes that Erica won't see it because she is on her flight. We call a couple radio shows and announce it to the fans. I'm pretty excited and so are the boys.
The interviews went by pretty fast and before we knew it we were off to sound check. I find myself smiling happily at the thought that Erica should be arriving at any moment.
As we walk off the stage all pumped for tonight I spot Lou talking to the one person I couldn't wait to see. I snuck up behind her and grabbed her sides making her jump a little. I pick her up and spin her around in a couple of circles before setting her down. She turned to face me and a smile was plastered on her face.
Before she could speak I pressed my lips firmly to hers. I kissed them over and over again.
"I missed you so much." I said finally pulling away.
"I missed you to Harry." She says hugging me tightly. We stood there for a couple seconds before we finally moved to inside my little dressing room.
"So tell me everything." I said sitting down next to her. I don't want to push the subject of her mom but I need to know what I've missed. Her face grows a little bit sad. Guilt grows in my stomach.
"You know what?" She looked up as the words left my mouth.
"Tell me when you're ready." I say pressing a kiss to her sweet little lips. I go to stand up to grab something to drink, I felt her hands wrap around my wrist pulling me back down.
"I'm ready." She say. I nod waiting for her to continue.
"Well... She has a couple spots in her lungs that are cancerous and they are already planning to remove them as soon as possible. We went to a surgeon to see about surgery and they sent her straight to the hospital because her lungs were filling with fluid." She stops for a moment.
"Well then they hooked her up to all these machines and everything. I don't really know what was going on. But they kept her there overnight and are going to keep her until she is stable enough. I guess."
"So you had to leave her in the hospital." I ask. She nods.
"I feel like they aren't telling me everything Harry." She says as a tear falls.
"I'm sure they are love." I say whipping the tear off her cheek.
We talk some more before her phone rings and I excuse myself to go get dressed for tonight.
I walk into the dressing room to see all the boys getting dressed in their orange suites and I smile to myself before going to put mine on.
"The fans are mad mate the are all decked out!" Zayn says.
"Yea I saw a couple myself. They really out did themselves." Niall adds.
After we all get ready, I look around for Erica but I can't seem to find her. I shrug it off, she's probably with Lou or something. I'm sure I'll see her in her usual spot behind stage.
As we walk out on stage all I can see is a massive sea of orange. It is great.
As the show goes on I'm constantly looking for Erica. Finally I see her. But she doesn't look the same as she did before the show. Her eyes from what I could see looked very sad and a bit red.
Niall seemed to notice her and then pulled her on stage. She was against it at first but then she finally gave in.
"Guy can we all say a big hello to Erica!" Liam says through his microphone. Everyone screams hello to her and a huge smile comes across her face.
"Yea without her we would be completely off! She's the one who keeps us on time for everything!" Louis adds.
"She is actually the reason for all the orange tonight. Harry why don't you explain." Liam says. Erica shoots me a confused look.
"Well you see Erica here just arrived back from visiting her mum in the states. And her mother was just diagnosed with cancer." I stop at the arena fills with awes.
"You see orange is her favorite color so we decided to show our support and wear it tonight." I end on a happier note. I glance over at Erica and see a few tears falling from her eyes.
After talking some more we carry on with the show and Erica goes back behind stage.
Erica's P.O.V.
I couldn't take it anymore I had to head back to the hotel. What the boys did was so kind and generous but I just couldn't enjoy the moment.
My father called again moments before the show, informing me that they were prepping my mother for surgery at any moment. I talked to her for what could be possibly the last time. You never know and I think that's what's bothering me the most.
My father said that they got the fluid under control but they decide in my mothers best interest to have surgery to try and remove the cancer in her body. In hope that they can start chemo as soon as possible.
I know that tonight's going to be probably the longest night of my life. I made my father promise that he would call as soon as he heard anything. But in the back of my mind I feel like he is going to water down anything they tell him. And that he wouldn't tell me the whole story.
I have always believed that there is a god or at least someone watching over us. So I sit here in the dark hotel room asking who ever is watching over me and my mother at this moment to be with my mom and the doctors as the surgery proceeds.
I stumble into the bathroom and decide to take a nice bath to ease my mind. As the hot water fill the tub I glance in the mirror. I notice the tear stains on my checks and my makeup is half off. I quickly wash my face and climb into the bath tub.
I allow the water to come up to my neck and rest my head on the ledge of the tub. I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
I jump about 50 feet in the air when I hear the hotel room door open. I must have fallen asleep. I quickly get out of the now cold water and wrap a towel around my wrinkly skin.
I open the door to the bathroom to instantly be greeted by Harry.
"Hey" he breaths out.
"Hi" I say shyly.
I walk into the bedroom and throw on some random clothes.
"Where'd you go love?" He says pulling off his shirt.
"I had to leave." I say looking down feeling a bit of guilt because I didn't stay for the whole show.
"Why?" He asks as he sits next to me on the edge of the bed.
"My father called again...." He nods waiting for me to continue.
"She had to go into surgery. I talked to her right before they put her to sleep. She acted as if it was the last time she would talk to me. Harry i don't think I can do this anymore." I say shaking my head as a few tears fall.
"I know she wants me to stay out here with you guys but I feel like I have to go back."
"Love she wants what best for you. She knows you need to be her not there. She doesn't want you to see her like that." He says pulling my chin up to meet his eyes.
"She wants you to be strong for her. And this will show her that you are strong." I nod in understanding.
"So how was the rest of the show?" I ask changing the subject. I wipe my face and look up at Harry.
"Ehh it was fun but I couldn't really focus. But that's nothing new." He says smiling. I smile a bit and we continue talk most the night away.
We ended up laying in bed watching a random movie that was on the television.
It was about three in the morning when my heart dropped into my stomach as my phone sounded.
