My Hero

Carter Lynn’s POV:

Today is the day. The day of my ultrosound. I am so nervous. My palms were sweating as I gripped the arm rest of the passenger seat of my mom’s mini van. All I heard were baby cries circling through my brain. I wished Harry was here, instead my mom and older brother came. I am glad my brother, Andrew, decided to come. We are really close and I needed his support.

As we pulled into the parking lot of the pregnancy center, I started to nervously breathe. Nerves raced through my body as we checked into the front desk. I saw many women cruelly stare at me judgementally. If only they knew, what pain I have gone through. One women moved her daughter when I sat down. Tears pricked my eyes. These people didn’t even know me, yet they have the nerve to judge me!

“Carter Lynn?” the nurse said. I stood up and walked into the room with my mom and brother at my side. Again I wish Harry were here. The nurse lead us to the back room, and had me sit on a cold examining chair.

“So, Carter, how have you been? Don’t worry. I know what happened. I am sorry if those ladies out there were acting snobby,” she said sweetly. I liked her immediantly. She seem to be about 24 only 8 years older than me.

“Thanks. I am alright,” I said quietly.

“Alright kiddo, what i am going to do is put this liquid around your lower abdomen. Its a bit cold. And we will listen for a heart beat.”

“Ok,” I unbuttoned my pants, and she spend the cold liquid on my stomach. She placed her controller on the liquid and started to search for the heart beat. I closed my eyes and held my breath. Then, I heard it. A sound I will never forget. THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. The sound of a baby’s heart beat.
