They Don't Know About Us

Chapter 2

I love you. Remember. They cannot take it

Alexis’s Point of View

[Outfit]

I gently shut another cabinet, sighing to myself. I’d been looking for a mug for the past fifteen minutes, and needless to say my search had led me nowhere. Giving up on the idea of making myself a cup of coffee, I decided to go curl up in bed and read The Fault in Our Stars again.

“Looking for something, love?” I turned around to find the source of the raspy voice, which had sent my stomach into a series of flip-flops. And the delicious sight in front of my eyes didn’t help either, his pajamas hung low enough to show the defined V-lines of his torso, his sinewy arm flexed as he raised a hand to run long fingers through his ruffled curls. A small smile formed on his lips, tilted just a tad higher on the left cheek. A smile that would make the North Pole melt.

“I was just thinking of making myself some coffee, but--”

“Yeah, I know we ran out of coffee a couple days ago. I told Louis to--”

“And mugs too,” I added.

“Huh? Mugs? What? No! They should be right there,” Harry said reaching across me as he leaned over the counter to reach the upper cabinet. Heat radiated off him, and a faint, sweet smell of the woods. “There. I knew I had saved a couple,” he said pulling me out of my trance, placing a flowered, large-sized mug in my hand.

“Saved?”

“Ah...the lads and I like having fun ya know. Sometimes that includes thrashing plates and cups.” My eyes widened in horror.

He chuckled quietly at my expression, “so, coffee? C’mon I’ll take you to my favorite café downtown.”

“Oh no! I don’t want to be a bother. You get your beauty rest!”

Harry dramatically placed a hand across his chest, stumbling a few steps in the process, “Are you rejecting me, Ms. Tomlinson? And rest or no rest, I’m always a beauty, Mademoiselle Tom-lein-son.” The last syllables words were uttered in an impeccable French accent.

A giggle left my lips, “if you insist, Monsieur.”

“Oh! I do indeed. Let me just get dressed really quick, yeah?”

No. “Of course.”

Within three minutes Harry had his hand placed out for me to hold. Wings of the birds on his chest peeked out through the plain cotton tee he’d worn. And his legs in the black skinny jeans he’d pulled on, almost had me jealous. “Shall we?”

“We shall.” I responded taking hold of his warm hand, and letting the sensation in the pit of my stomach go wild.

I traded my flip-flops for converse and tucked my hair inside a beanie. Harry did the same putting on a pair of Ray-Bans too. His hand wrapped around mine again, making my cheeks warm. “I’d rather just walk, but if you’d like to take the car that’s fine with me,” Harry said as we stood in the elevator.

“I would love to walk,” I replied, not just because that meant more time with the lad, but also because I actually loved the outdoors.

After successfully dodging the cameras by taking the rear exit we made small talk on the way to, as Harry had kindly informed me, Rosie’s. He asked me about life at Uni and answered my questions about life on the road, making me laugh with the tales he had of the lads.

“I really wanted to graduate, you know? I still want to,” he added thoughtfully, “but then I look at the fans, the life I’m living and feel guilty for being so selfish.”

“That’s not selfish, Harry. That’s…” I struggled to find a proper word, “Harry that’s prodigious.” I finished lamely.

A hearty laughter escaped his lips, he shook his head smiling at me with adoration and awe, making my cheeks glow, “prodigious,” he chuckled yet again, his fingers reached to pinch my cheeks, “you took your SATs very seriously, Tomlinson didn’t you?”

I shrugged turning to face the pavement, “Don’t be embarrassed, love. That was…” he stroked his chin thoughtfully, “suave?” A giggle left my lips, as I turned to face him, raising one eyebrow in question.

“And you didn’t?” I asked, “take your SATs seriously.”

“I told you Alexis, I was very determined about college,” he said quietly playing with the hem of his tee-shirt. “Sometime I try to picture what life at UCL or Cambridge would be like, but--”

“You wanted to go to Cambridge?” I asked halting in my tracks.

His cheeks flared pink, “I know, I didn’t have a chance.”

“Then you wouldn’t have said it,” I taunted, he shook his head, and shrugged nonchalantly, before dismissing the topic with a wave of his hand.

After slight more banter, and small talks we stood in front of a small, cozy looking café, Harry in a very gentlemanly way held the door open for me, ushering me inside and he followed. We both settled in a table at the corner. Harry stared at me wide-eyed as I ordered for a milk coffee with four sugars.

“Ms. Tomlinson would you mind explaining to me, what’s the point of the coffee if all you are having is sugar.” A small smile curved my lips upwards, and I shrugged.

“I’ve got a sweet tooth, which reminds me,” I said turning to the middle-aged waitress, “I’ll get a chocolate chip muffin too.”

“Sure thing, sweetie. That all?” Harry and I nodded simultaneously, before resuming to chat.

“What time is it?” I asked suddenly, it had to be a while since we left. Harry reached for his pocket before squeezing his eyes shut, and rubbing his temple.

“I forgot my phone at home. Louis is going to be infuriated.”

“Pissed,” I added.

“Not helping, Alexis,” my name smoothly rolled off his tongue, making it sound a lot better than I thought it to be, a blush warmed my cheeks.

“We should get going,” he said, calling the waitress over for the bill.

“Now that we have already ticked him off, what’s the point of wasting the day,” I hinted, biting nervously on my bottom lip as I waited for his response.

After contemplating for a few minutes, a small smile lifted the corner of his lips, dimples barely there, “might as well.” I threw my arms around him across the table.

“I could kiss you right now,” I bit my lip harshly, as heat and color flushed my cheeks, realizing the words that had spilled out of my stupid mouth.

“I wouldn’t mind,” Harry responded with a lopsided smile, his twinkling jade eyes holding me captive. I pull myself away, smacking his chest in the process. Harry faked hurt, while I tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear in attempts to collect myself.

“When are you flying to Doncaster?” Harry asked, presumably after noting my bashfulness.

“Next week,” I replied softly, “with Louis and Eleanor.” Something along the lines of disappointment flickered in his expression, and a small sigh left his lips.

“Oh,” he pondered quietly, “for how long?”

“Not more than a week. Dan has a vacation planned for mum,” his eyes brightened at the mention of that, and a grin split my face as I took in his attempts to keep the corners of his mouth in a straight, firm line. “Oh let it out, Styles,” I grinned, leaning over to poke his cheek where his right dimple formed.

Harry shook his head, a crooked smile forming on his lips, “so what would you like to do today? Your wish is my command.” Harry said, emphasizing the last part in a posh accent.

“Really? Um...throw some ideas out at me, please?”

“How do you feel about a Harry Potter Tours?”

“With Harry Styles?” I chuckled at my joke, making Harry crack a smile too, “I’d love to.”

“What are we waiting for, m’lady?” Harry pulled out his wallet placing a few pounds on the table, before helping me out of my chair.

Despite trying to lie low, and only talking in hushed whispers, Harry was stopped more than once for pictures and autographs, a couple of girls even wanted pictures with me. Luckily there were no paparazzi in sight, that Harry assured me, was what we thought, “look out for the tabloids tomorrow. I bet the headline is going to be, ‘Harry Styles' New Conquest, Band-mate Louis Tomlinson’s Little Sister’, Simon will grill me and Louis will kill me, without letting the tiniest of sounds leave my mouth.” His voice was laced with weariness and despondency.

I slipped my hand into his, gently squeezing it, his quiet declaration had left me speechless. I had, of course, thought that the accusations were overblown, but hearing his confession I wondered if they were even true in the slightest. Harry offered me a wry smile, “and I’m boring you with my misery. I’m sorry, love.”

I shook my head frantically, “no, I’m glad you confronted. That is hypocritical, if I could do something, I certainly would.”

“I don’t doubt that for a minute.” Harry replied smiling, his eyes displayed slight affection. “So you don’t believe the tabloids then?” Harry asked arching an eyebrow.

“What’s there to believe; Larry Stylinson?” Harry cringed at that, “Eleanor is a beard? They are very unimaginitive.” Harry laughed out loud, making a few heads snap in our direction.

After a few more hours, we found ourselves under the shade of trees Hyde Park, we had selected the most secluded area possible and I closed my eyes listening to Harry talk about his family. Maybe it was the jetlag, but I felt my eyelids getting heavy.

When my eyelids fluttered open, I was greeted by a splash of colors in the sky, lavenders and pinks and blues had painted the sky, I was enjoying the view until I realized that this also meant that it was evening.

“Mornin’ sleepy head,” Harry’s deep chuckle pulled me out of my thoughts.

“What’s the time, Harry?” I asked keeping my cool.

“Darn. Crap. Shoot. Lexi. Crap. Louis. Shoot. Shoot. Shoot. He’s going to kill me. This was a stupid idea. Freaking ridiculous.” Harry fingers desperately ran through his curls, as he paced around in front of me.

“Harry.” I said quietly, he didn’t hear me so I repeated it, louder this time. His eyes flicked towards me, “it’s my fault. It was my idea, okay? I’ll explain that to Louis.” Harry shook his head.

“No, no, no. I was being stupid. I should have known better. He already told me to keep away from you.”

“Why?” I asked my eyes no snapping to his, anger bubbled inside but I tried to keep my tone measured.

“That doesn’t matter Lexi. Not right now, let’s just go home, alright?” He offered his hand to me. I shook my head.

“Are you going to let my brother dictate your life, and mine too?” I asked, malice dripping my words. I loved Louis, and all, but for Christ’s sake I’m an eighteen year-old and very capable of making my own decisions.

“This. Is. Not. The. Time. For arguing.” Harry said quietly, his fists were clenched on either sides, and his nose slightly red. He offered his hand yet again, but I slapped it away, helping myself up on my own. “God Lexi! Could you not be so goddamned difficult, for a second!” He spat furiously.

“Could you not be a jerk for a second,” I replied, equally furious if not more. He balled his fists, pressing them to his eyes, then rubbed his temples before sighing. “Just take me home.” I muttered quietly.

“Alexis…” He never finished the sentence, and I didn’t ask him to.
Harry’s Point of View

“Look who decided to return!” Louis spoke casually, but it was hard to miss his spiteful undertone. Eleanor’s hand squeezed his thigh, and I felt a pang of jealousy shoot through me, I always did when Perrie gave Zayn lovestruck glances. When Liam’s face lit up at a call from Danielle.

“Louis, I just wanted to get coffee, and we lost track of--” Lexi started but was cut off, with Louis’s nonchalant wave of hand, I still hadn’t looked up, already knowing that the blue-green eyes of my supposed best mate, would be giving the most venomous look I had ever encountered.

“That’s okay, lamb, go get changed we are going out for dinner.” She shifted uncomfortably, and caught my eye, I gave her a reassuring smile before prodding her to do as Louis instructed, “dress fancy, Lex.” Louis said as her figure disappeared behind the doorway. Eleanor followed right behind.

“Harold,” he spoke again, crossing his arms behind his head, he leaned on the couch. I nodded in acknowledgement, or maybe because my throat was too dry and my body too paralyzed to do anything else. “I believe I told you something, not too long ago. You remember, mate?” I nodded yet again. “Doesn’t seem like it, eh? Well let me repeat it Styles, you will not go anywhere near my sister under any circumstances. Everyone in this house, in this world knows you are up to nothing. You’ve got millions of other girl to hook up with, leave my sister out of your charm. Aye?”
[Outfit]

I shouldn’t have felt guilty, all we did was talk, held hands for a while, but that was it. I should have disregarded Louis’ words as soon as he spoke them, but I couldn’t. And I kept pondering on this while getting dressed, I couldn’t shake out the guilt until I stood at the door, waiting for Eleanor and Alexis to come out of the room, I couldn’t even look at Louis in the eye at the time.

But when Lexi walked into the room in a pale blue, pastel dress, her hair was in a bun but loose curls framed her small face, I understood the reason for my shame. I did want something more from Lexi, and I didn’t care what her brother, or Simon or anyone else thought.
