A Boy and His Guitar
Twenty Nine
Clarity wiped under her eyes. “What are you doing here,” she spoke harshly. “Shouldn't you be with Carly?” Clarity folded her arms, turning her back to Layna.
Layna could feel her heart breaking looking at the sight in front of her. “Clarity…Carly set you and Niall up.”
Clarity didn't answer, but she was listening.
“Carly and Niall used to date a long time ago. They almost made it a whole year. Carly didn't have many friends back then; she had the ugliest braces and she just looked…bad.” Layna took a deep breath. “Carly really liked Niall, but a week before their nine month anniversary, she saw him kissing another girl. Carly was heartbroken only for a little while… it was mostly anger and hatred from then on towards Niall.
He wasn't a bad kid like the stories go, but he wasn't a great one either. He made mistakes, just like every other human. A few months later, when we'd returned from summer vacation, Carly had dyed her hair, and gotten her braces taken off. She became popular.”
Clarity was watching Layna’s every move now, intrigued by the story.
“She made it her mission to destroy Niall’s life. She even gave him… that thing that he has.” I knew she was talking about the herpes thing. “Though I'm sure he doesn't have it still.”
“Why are you telling me this? Aren't you one of Carly's followers?”
“I don't want to be a follower anymore,” Layna said. “I genuinely want to be your friend, though.”
