One Direction's New kids
Chapter 14
One week later
“I still can’t believe that girl gave up this awesome room,” Drew said, staring at the room for the millionth time that week.
“Yeah, well, we have only another week left of it, so I have to figure something out,” Sanali replied.
“Okay, I know you don’t like me asking over and over, but why did we leave again,” Drew asked, carefully.
“I guess it’s time I told you,” Sanali said, unsurely. She went into the whole story about what she heard and what she’d said. Drew sat there wide-eyed the whole time Sanali spoke. When Sanali was done, Drew said:“Do you think they’re sorry at all?” Sanali thought for a moment. She hadbeen wondering the same thing.
“I’m not sure,” Sanali said. She looked at the clock.
“Oh man,”she said, jumping up and walking out the door, “I have to go. I found this guy named Al who says he’ll pay me $20 an hour for reorganizing he’s displays. Stay safe.” Sanali walked down the hallway to the elevator.
When she reached the lobby, the man behind the desk was calling to someone:
“Ms. Markmann. Ms. Markmann. Ms. Markmann!” Sanali just kept walking deep in thought. The guy ran up to her and said:
“Ms. Markmann, a package just arrived for you from Aruba.” That’s when it hit her. She was supposed to be pretending to be that girl. Didn’t Tiffany say she was in Aruba, Sanali thought.
“Thank you,” she said, taking the package. Sanali waited until the guy left before she ripped it open and looked inside. She found a letter that read:
Dear “Tiffany” ;-),
Thank you for doing me that awesome favor. I’m having an awesome time in Aruba! How are things over in London? Hope you’re having a great time. I know we just met but I feel like we are one in the same, if you know what I mean. Here is something I think, if I remember correctly, will look good for you. Enjoy “Tiff”! ;-)
-Harmony (I love my name ;-)!)
Sanali pulled out a bracelet that was gold with little charms with diamondson them. It looked like they were real gold and diamond. This girl is loaded, Sanali thought. She put the bracelet on and admired it before she walked to Al’s shop. When she arrived, she told Al that she was ready to get started.
“Okay, today you can work on the toothpaste and tissue,” he said pointing over to a shelf at the back of the store.
“Alright, and thanks again for giving me this opportunity,” Sanali said, walking over to the shelf.
“Don’t mention it,” Al said. Sanali had been sorting for 30 minutes, listening to the sound of customers going in and out.
“Sanali,” Al said, “I’ll be back in an hour. Can you watch the store?”
“Yeah, it’ll be fine,” Sanali replied. The store had no customers at all. Then, it sounded as if a group of customers came in at once.
“Welc-,” Sanali started to say. She stopped when she saw no one in site. I must be going crazy, Sanali thought. She got back to working on the shelves, trying to ignore the weird feeling in her stomach. After a few minutes, she looked up and nearly jumped out of her skin. She stood there looking at the guys, with fear.
“What the heck!” she screamed. “Oh, so, now you guys like to creep around and stock people!”
“Well, no, we actually came to buy something,” Louis said.
“And then we saw you,” Niall added.
“Yeah, you see me, I see you, now what do you want?” asked Sanali.
“Is that a literal question?” Zayn asks.
“No, not really,” Sanali says walking to the boxes of toothpaste she was sorting.
“So…you decided to stay where, exactly,” Liam asks.
“Somewhere,” Sanali says, sickly sweet, “Now what were you looking foragain.”
“Somewhere on the street?” Harry asks.
“Well, you’ve come to the wrong place. All you have to do isgo outside the store to find that,” she says.
“Where’s Drew?” Niall asks, irritated.
“Well, if you must know, we’re staying at the hotel a block away from here,” Sanali confesses.
“How can you afford that?” Zayn asked.
“I have connections,” Sanali says, slyly.
“Look, Sanali, we are really sorry,” Louis says, as the other guys nod, “We’d really like for you and Drew to come back home.” Sanali didn’t respond and just kept working.
“Well, if you change your mind, the doors always open,” Liam said as the guys walked out of the door.
“Home,” Sanali whispered, through tears.
