There's Someone Always Watching
Chapter Twenty
Tessa's POV
I opened the doorand heard voices. One was of Niall's, which made me cringe, and one was unfamiliar.
"Yes, I know, but she is just adapting to life here and--"
"Niall," the unfamiliar voice spoke, "she needs to get betrothed. There can't be just a princess, we need a king to rule!"
I silently gasped. Betrothed? I'm supposed to actually STAY here? AND get married? I listened again.
"But who would--" Niall starts again.
"Get those boys... Harry Edward and Liam Paine. Start with them, if not, we shall improvise," I heard. They seriously want me to...
The thought made me shudder.
"Okay, thank you," Niall sighed defeated. I stood up straight now, as Niall came back. His eyes widened, then he bowed his head.
"Oh stop. I'm supposed to get married?!" I yelled. He looked back up at me, and for a second, I thought he looked sad. Not pity, but sad at the thought.
"That was one of Atesslavoy's councilmen, he said you must marry by the end of the year," he looked sad again. "I am sorry."
"Why are you sorry, Niall? You've done nothing wrong, you've just spoken your mind. You're right, I'm just an immature little brat with a title before my name," I said. I went back into my room, sitting on my bed. Niall followed me.
"But..."
"No, Niall. You don't have to lie anymore. I know already," I said. I looked down at my feet, squeezing my eyes shut. "Do I really have to stay here, forever?" Niall rubbed my shoulder.
"Well, yes, I suspect."
The two sat in silence for a while, until it grew dark and they needed a lantern to see each other.
"Good night, Tessa. I hope you have a good sleep," Niall said.
"Good night, Niall. As to you, also." Niall left, and Atessa, princess of Atesslavoy, was left thinking on her bed.
