Chapter Two -Dinner
Liam laughed and said "Well, I give you a point for knowing who I am"
Kayla ignored his comment and yelled at him, "Just because your some boyband superstar doesn't mean everything is yours for the taking! Especially not that house!"
Liam sighed and set the knife down. He looked at her, "I had no intention of imposing on your family, I was just as much thrown into this situation as you are"
Kayla looked about the room frantically.
"What are you doing?" Liam inquired, confused.
"I'm looking for the cameras. This has got to be some kind of joke, your on some sort of reality prank show, right"
Liam chuckled again, "You really think I would let the world see me in an apron on Television?"
"Well, I don't know you, so you could be totally fine with it for all I know"
Just then they heard someone coming down the stairs. "Oh Kayla-bear! Your home! I see you've met Liam, isn't he just a fine boy? I don't know why his buddies wanted me to keep him in line, he's been sucha sweetheart since he's been here."
Does this guy have my family under some sort of spell? If so, why am I immune to it? I bet it's his accent. All those thoughts rushed through Kayla's head, but she just asked her grandmother, "Why did you let him stay in Aunt Sheryl's?"
Linda sighed,"Liam why don't you go help Jack with Kayla's things?"
Liam was able to take the hint, and so he took of Linda's apron and set it on the counter and smiled at the two Grant women on the way out the door. As he left, Linda grabbed the apron and tied it around her waist then she washed her hands and finished up cutting the cucumber.
"Honey, I don't know if you know this but your Aunt Sheryl was in a lot of debt. She never married, so the effects of that fall on us." Linda explained hoping her granddaughter would understand.
"Well, what does that have to do with the present situation?" Kayla asked.
"Your so concerned about that boy living in Sheryl's house, he's the one saving it from being seized. He's paying us not only to stay there but extra to make sure we don't tell anybody he's here" Linda spoke as she finished off the salad and set it on the dinner table in the adjacent room.
"I guess I understand" Kayla sounded annoyed though, "I still don't like it"
"I never asked you too, now come give your Grams a hug"
Kayla smiled and hugged her grandmother.
-------------------------------------------------------------
A dinner table. Four people. The super-fit grandmother, the intimidating father who is a total feminate, the Writing student, and the boyband reject. Awkward silence.
Just as Kayla was about to excuse herself, Jack suggested, "Why don't you walk Liam over nextdoor?"
"I really, couldn't--"
"That would be lovely" Liam smiled as cocky as possible.
After Liam had finished his dinner, he and Kayla walked with him over to the front porch.
"I'm sorry about earlier, blowing up on you and all,I didn't realize what you were doing for my family, and I'm sure you have your gains from being here, but just, Thanks." Kayla breathed out.
"It's no problem, do you want to come in, I know this place is sacred to you" Liam offered.
"I appreciate it, but I think for now just looking at it would be suitable."
Liam smiled and headed inside.
For a while Kayla just stood there on the porch.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
When Kayla arrived back home, her Grams and Dad were waiting for her.
"Hey, guys what's up?" She asked just as she stepped onto her porch.
"We have something for you"Linda told her.
"You guys you shouldn't have"
"It's from Aunt Sheryl, she wanted you to have it" Her father said as her Grams presented her a jewelry box that was all too familiar to Kayla. She was starting to tear up as she opened it.
"Now you'll notice there is one piece missing, her engagement ring, she thought itwould be better if I kept it, for now"Her grandmother told her.
Kayla nodded now in full on tears. She hugged her family and headed to her old room, lied on her bed and cried as she watched the lights turn out in her Aunt Sheryl's old house nextdoor.
I really can't wait to see where this goes :) xo
