Make Me

Take Me Home Again

As Justice laid the final photo on the table, she heard the door click open. Her head snapped up to find a curly mop of brown hair coming through the door. Her breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t expected him to be there, but as he leaned against the door and clicked it closed she knew it was real. Dread coursed through her veins as she heard the lock turn. It was just the two of them in the empty office.

“Hi,” he said. A simple greeting, but Justice couldn’t speak. She couldn’t move and for a moment she forgot how to breathe. “Justice?”

“Wha-What are you doing here?” she asked, shock and fear playing in her eyes.

As he stepped forward, Justice stepped back.

“I- I wanted to talk to you,” he told her as a hand brushed the back of his neck.

“About what?” she snapped, her arms wrapping around herself in a protective manner. “I already signed the papers. That’s what you wanted, right?”

“No,” Harry yelled, stepping forward to grab the back of a chair. “I never wanted to let you go. Justice, you have no idea what happened. Paul and the label were furious. I had no choice!”

“You had every choice, Hare.”

“They threatened to take away the band,” he said his voice nearly hollow. “I couldn’t do that to the lads, not after everything we’ve been through.”

“It was an empty threat,” she said. “They can’t actually do that, all they can do is toss you off the label, but someone else would have picked you up in a second.”

“Honestly, I already know I’m an ass,” Harry replied. “Please don’t make me feel worse.”

“You should feel like an ass.”

“Justice, seriously. I’ve been through basic torture and all you have to say is that I should feel like an ass.”

“Torture?” Justice stated skeptically.

“Yes, I wasn’t allowed to speak to you, and when I did I pretty much made you hate me and all of that is because someone else thought they had a place in our relationship,” he told her referring to Paul. “It’s hell to know that I made the only woman I’ve ever loved, hate me.”

Justice swallowed. He said “loved” he loved her. Tears started to form at the corners of her eyes, what could she say to that. He had royally fucked up, but she still loved him and clearly he still loved her.

“I’m still in love with you Justice and it’s taken forever to work up the courage to see you. I just can’t stand the thought of you hating me. I’ll understand if you don’t want to see me ever after today, but I can’t just walk away from you. I tried,” he said as he moved towards her slowly. “I tried Justice, but life without you just doesn’t feel right.”

“You can’t do that!” She shouted a few tears spilling down her cheeks; her back touched the wall as he stopped in front of her. “You can’t just walk in here and act like this. We’re divorced and you just let me go!”

“Justice, please forgive me,” he pleaded as his hands cupped her face. “I just can’t have you hate me.”

Smacking his chest, she tried to push him away. “Hate you,” she sobbed, “Hare, I don’t hate you. I can’t hate you. I hate that I can’t hate you. I want to hate you. God, I want to hate you, but you make it impossible.”

“Then say you forgive me,” he begged, his hands coming to rest on her shoulders. As his fingers grazed her neck he felt a chain, she hadn’t been one to wear much jewelry so it was odd. Odd enough that he pulled the chain out of her tee shirt to see the canary diamond engagement ring hanging from the thin line of silver. “You still wear it?”

“Of course I do,” she snapped, her hands grabbing at the small jewel.

“Justice,” he said suddenly putting his hands to her cheeks once again. “Why?”

Looking away, she bit her lips, her tears finally drying. “Because I still love you, you idiot.”

Turning her to face him, he pressed his lips to hers. The taste of his lips hadn’t changed; it was still the same kiss that plagued her dreams. She tried not to kiss him back, but her resolve was weak and she did. She pulled him closer and hoped he would never leave. When he finally pulled away, gulping air into his lungs he smiled.

“Say you’ll be mine,” he whispered, his green eyes gazing down on her. “We’ll take it slow this time.”

“What about the press?”

“The whole world pretty much knows I fancy you. Why not let them know it’s true; be my girl. If you think you can take the fans, then I want everyone to know that you’re mine.”

Smiling, she shoved his shoulder lightly. Her eyes were still red and puffy from her tears, but now she had gone through a complete 180. Now she was beyond happy.

“Okay, but don’t you ever put me through this again! This is the only second chance I’m giving.” She told him before pressing her lips back against his.

“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
