Losing Nala

***************TALIA'S POV**********************

"Nala! Catch!" I smiled throwing the stick. She sprinted just in time to catch it in her mouth and returned it to me.

"Knock Knock!" Lindsay yelled from the front door.

"Coming!" I said running from the back yard to where she was waiting and opened the door for her.

"Hey!" She smiled pulling me into a hug.

"Hey. So we got ice cream and snacks in the kitchen and I'll pick out a few movies after I feed Nala." I sighed going to fill the green bowl with my dog's name engraved on it. I filled it along with water in the other bowl and set it down just before she came running in to eat.

"Thanks for helping me get over this break up." Lindsay sighed.

"Anytime. So we have the Notebook, Last Song, and Hunger Games." I said pulling out the movies from my bin.

"Those sound good." She said sitting on the couch with popcorn.

"Ok-" I started before I was interrupted by a thump. I looked at Nala who was walking down the stairs with a limp.

"Did you hit your ankle?" I asked her pulling up her dog bed for her in front of us.

"Hopefully it's nothing too serious." Lindsay said stuffing her face with food.

"She seems fine." I said hitting play.

"She's a brave little soldier." Lindsay smiled petting my dog's soft gray fur.

"I don't know what I would do without her." I sighed.

"Hey luckily you won't have to go through that for a while ok?" She reassured me patting my back.

"Yeah." I said forcing a smile before getting lost in my thoughts.

FLASHBACK-

"Papa! Papa! There's a doggy!" Little me shouted at a small pup wondering the streets.

"What's a pup like that doing on the streets?" He smiled.

"Get it Daddy! Lets keep it!" I shouted. In a swift motion my Daddy picked the puppy up.

"It's wet and cold. Let's take it home. Ok?" He smiled his kind smile.

We took it in and I started a warm bath for it while my Daddy fed it some left over meat we had.

"Talia, it's a girl." He said.

"Can we keep it Daddy! Oh please can we keep it?" I begged.

"Well it has no collar. This is young one probably left behind in her litter." He sighed.

"We can't give it away! I will take good care of it. Pinky promise!" I said.

"Well you gotta come up with a name!" He said laying the dog in the warm water and washing it off with soap.

"I'll name it after my favorite Disney character!" I announced.

"Who's that?" My dad asked as if he didn't know.

"NALA FROM THE LION KING SILLY!" I smiled.

"Nala it is then." He announced holding the small dog up and setting it down on a towel where I carefully dried her off.

"I love her Daddy!" I said hugging Nala.

"We'll head to Petco tomorrow." He smiled.

"THANK YOU SO MUCH DADDY!" I said.
