Life is Hard.

Family Problems

Starbucks was extremely crowded today, just like any usual day. Chatter an laughter filled the cafe. I ordered a cappuccino and Layla had a extra sugar latte after waiting in line for half an hour. We spotted an unoccupied table for two at the corner of the cafe and we sat down.

"Thanks for sending me home last night." I gave her a warm smile but received nothing back before sipping my drink.

"Yeah, sure thing," she was looking down at her drink, not bothering to meet my eye.

"Laylay, are you okay, what's wrong?"

"Family problems, nothing much." I nod at her response, not wanting to pressure her by forcing her to tell me. I'll talk to get about it later on when she's feeling better, knowing she doesn't like talking about it when she's in a bad mood. We finished out drunks oand left, Layla asked if she could come over so we headed back to my house.

We lay down on the pink fuzzy carpet in my bedroom after I switched on the radio. 'Womanizer', it was Layla's favourite song, I knew what she had in mind, I turned over to face her only to find her smirking back at me. We jumped up and started dancing as Britney sang the first line of the song. We had our own dance steps for this song since choreographed it a few months back. We lay back down when the song came to an end, exhausted and gasping for air.

Layla seemed happy after sheiks so I decided to bring up the topic that I avoided this morning at the cafe.

"Laylay, do you wanna talk about what happened this morning? You know that you can tell me everything and I'll always be here for you."

"Umm.. my parents were fighting again this morning. I think my dad hit her, I heard a loud smack and my mom started to sob." she said staring at the ceiling as tears started forming and flowing down her cheeks.

"He hit her? Ohmygosh, I don't know what to say. I'm here for you don't worry, just let it all out" I embrace her into a tight hug as her cries just got louder.

"I-I feel u-u-useless not being there for my mum and getting locked up in my stupid room" she stuttered.

"There wasn't anything you could have done, Lay. It wasn't your choice to get locked in your room. It wasn't your fault, your father did that."

"I know but I should have called the police or something.. I heard some of their conversation from my room, someone said something about divorce."

No one spoke after that, we both just enjoyed the silence and the presence of our best friend beside us. Layla stopped sobbing after awhile and left. We both have something in common actually, family problems. My parents are divorced and her parents just can't see eye to eye and just end up fighting over everything. Sometimes her dad just gets aggressive towards their family.
