Is It Fake?

Abby POV
I walked briskly down the hallways my heels clicking on the floor. Getting to the office doors I push them open. I wonder what’s so important Janice had to stop the recording. Entering I see Simon off to the side. I give him a nod wondering what he is doing here. I see the back of a head over the back of one of the chairs and freeze. The chair turns and Liam smiles at me. I back away.
“Whatever this is I want no part of it.” I say turning on my heels. “Now if you’d excuse me I have to go finish recording.”
“Abby.” I hear in Janice’s stern tone behind me.
I turn my head back towards Janice.
“Hmm…….”
“Sit down.”
We have a bit of a glare contest until I huff and slouch into a chair as far away from Liam as possible. Liam looks at me hurt.
“Now Liam has been briefed on this but Abby you haven’t. Simon would you care to fill her in.”
Simon looks at me and leans his elbows on his knees.
“Well essentially we would like to get you and Liam together for another publicity stunt. “
“What?” I say sputtering and laughing. “No I’m not doing that again.”
“Abby.” Janice says sternly.
“What?” I say annoyed looking at her.
“You don’t have a choice. Either you date Liam or we will postpone indefinitely the release of your new album.”
“What you can’t do that!”
“Actually I can the album hasn’t been formally announced yet so we can postpone it for as long as we want to.”
I sit back in my chair.
“Fine I’ll do it.”
“That a girl so now onto the details, Simon.”
Simon perks up and looks at me.
“Well there are a couple of rules. First of all, no jabs taunts or songs after the relationship is over.” Simon says looking right at me. I sink farther into the chair trying not to be seen.
“Second, you two will get along no fights when you think nobody can see.”
Simon says glancing between the both of us I smile remembering how that worked out last time.
“Finally, nobody I repeat nobody can know this is a publicity stunt. Liam that means you can’t even tell the other boys and Abby don’t you dare whisper a word of this to anyone. This relationship according to everybody except the 4 of us in the room is 100% real. Got it?”
I nod slowly and Liam does the same. Simon grabs a folder out of his briefcase and hands some paper to both Liam and I.
“Now here is the formal contract. I had no other way of guaranteeing this so you both will sign.”
I quickly scan the document. Deciding that the album was worth it I grabbed a pen and signed the bottom. I hand it to Janice and she signs as well and hands it to Simon.
“Well now that that is settled we can talk business. Liam and the other boys are going out tonight with a bunch of girls that we flew in. These girls are going to pose as girlfriends for the other boys. The other relationships haven’t been taken to the extreme you two have but because of what happened last time stricter conditions were necessary. Abby you will accompany Liam tonight as his friend. Now Liam we better let Abby get back to her work. Good day ladies.”Simon says getting up.
The rest of us get up as well and Liam makes his way towards me. He goes to give me a hug and I hold out my hand. Liam looks confused and then shakes my head. Simon shakes his head.
“I think we will need to work on that.”
Janice laughs from behind me.
“Definitely.”
“See you tonight?” Liam says looking into my eyes.
I nod my head. Liam turns and leaves the room with Simon. This so reminds me of the first time.
*Flashback*
2 years earlier
“Abby, Abby settle down please.” Janice said with a smile from behind her desk.
I wiggled in my seat considering sitting on my hands. I was nervous Janice said that something important was about to happen and I couldn’t stand the wait. Suddenly the doors opened and I spun the seat to see who it was. Simon Cowell walked in followed by a boy. What’s going on? The boys sat next to me smiling and I then recognized him from One Direction. I smiled back at him. Simon then went to sit next to Janice.
“Well you two do either of you know what a publicity stunt is?”
I shook my head yes and Liam shook his head no.
“Well Liam a publicity stunt is something that is done so that the person gets more publicity. It can range from doing something outrageous to a relationship.”
Liam nods his head.
“We want to set up a publicity stunt for the two of you. We want you two to be in a relationship for around 6 months we will handle the details. Do you two think you can handle it?”
I look at Liam and see him looking at me questioningly. I smile and nod my head. Liam smiles back and nods his head as well.
“Good while we work out the details why don’t you two get to know each other.”
Liam gets up and offers me his hand. I take it and we head into the other room.
I plop into the beanbags in the break room.
“So your Liam right? From that new band One Direction.”
“Yep and your Abby right?”
“Mhmmmm.”
We chat for a little bit before Simon and Janice walk in.
“Well I can see you two are getting along. Well Liam we have to go.” Simon says.
We both get up and I give Liam a hug. Liam then follows Simon out the door.
*End Flashback*
Things were so different back then. Liam and I got along; we were the best of friends for the first couple of months. The rest leaves me wondering what went wrong.
