Some Nights I Just Want To Have Fun.
Inanimate Eyes
I made my way through the crowd of try-hard hipsters to the stage. It was the first time I had went out since the breakup. Fidgeting with my little black dress, I was beginning to think that maybe it was a little too little. Oh, well. I stared down at my small feet, hidden beneath ivory, lace flats. Letting out a deep sigh, I forced myself to relax. I was going to have a good time tonight without him. What better way to have a good time than seeing my new favorite band? They were far from new; but I had just recently started listening to them and fell in love. The way that they perfectly portrayed their thoughts to make you feel exactly what they were feeling in that very moment was absolutely brilliant. Not to mention, the lead singer was shockingly handsome. I jumped as my thoughts were interrupted by loud screaming. The band had taken their seats accordingly, preparing to perform. "Hello!" He smirked. "We are Fun." As if we didn't know. "How's everyone doin' tonight?" The screams grew louder. I didn't realize exactly how close I was until he was on the stage directly in front of me. "This song is called, One Foot." He signaled the other band mates to start playing. "I'm standin' in Brooklyn just waiting for somethin' to happen..." He sang beautifully, his mouth moving so precisely. The crowd, including myself, cooed the lyrics back to him. He smiled in satisfaction, holding the microphone out to us on our parts. I loved how he connected with the audience so effortlessly. I wonder what it's like to have a whole room of people singing along to lyrics that you wrote. Must be nice. Lost in my thoughts, I didn't realize that I was awkwardly staring at Nate. Our eyes met and the corner of his pretty mouth lifted. Holy hell. My heart stopped. "What's your favorite song, sweetheart?" Was he really speaking to me? My mouth dropped wide open as I stupidly stuttered, "A-all Alone..." He chuckled, showing those perfect dimples. "You got it, darlin'." The enchanting tune echoed through the silent room. All eyes were on me now. "Please, please stop looking at me." I silently pleaded. Trying to focus my attention on Nate, I swayed to the upbeat tune of the ever so heart breaking song. Amazing how you can combine two completely different feelings into one lovely little song. "How do you cry with inanimate eyes?" The personification was wonderfully bringing that wind up souvenir to life. I was lost in his breathtaking words. Before I knew it, the song came to an end and the attention went from me, back to them. Thank God. Nate winked at me before standing up and bowing. "Thank you so much, Spokane! You've been incredible." They gathered their things and made their way off the stage whilst being applauded vigorously by the crowded room of fans. I stood there, staring blankly into the stage lights. The people were making their way out of the building, but I just stood there with an indifferent look upon my face. One of the body guards walked up to me, placing their hand on my shoulder, snapping me out of my moment. He asked me if I was alright and once I collected my thoughts, he started to lead me to the exit doors. "Burke, wait a second!" A somewhat familiar voice shouted from behind us. Burke; what a peculiar name; turned around, as did I. Those same eyes that I had made contact with earlier, pierced through me like daggers. I felt myself get hot. "Hey! Did you enjoy the show?" His hand gently grazed mine as he was trying to get more personal. Chills shot down my spine. "I think to say that I enjoyed it would be a bit of an understatement." I tried to play it cool. Was it working? I could feel a shy smirk start to form on my face. His hand grazed mine again, this time taking mine into his. Talk about electric feel. "Would you like to go out with me tonight?" He had the most genuine smile. I blushed. "I would love to." He placed his hand on my lower back, leading me back stage. I was going on a date with Nate Ruess.
