Silence and Sound

Chapter 5: Stain

The two girls enter the room and find the five guys sitting on the couch and loveseat. Echo looks around and takes in the place. She looks at the details and the lighting. She’s not sure where they should be standing when she paints them. The room is set up about the same as the last one, but there are a few differences. One would be the colors on the walls. When they enter the living room part, she sees that there is a white backdrop set up. Well, she didn’t have to observe as much as she did.
“Hello boys,” Coral says to them.
Echo doesn’t pay attention to what they are saying. She just watches as four of them turn their heads towards the speaker. One doesn’t look at Coral though. Ocean eyes turn to look at the her. She feels her cheeks heat up slightly, so she turns her head away from him. She knows that if she looks at him, she won’t be able to stop herself from talking to him. She needs to keep this as professional as it can be. She just has to come, paint them, and then leave.
The guys get up off of the couch as Echo starts to get everything set up. Echo glances at the blond to find him talking to her. He’s saying something about helping her out, but she makes it look like she didn’t see him at all. For once, being deaf is actually helping her. If she doesn’t look at him, she doesn’t know what he’s saying. Although she’s planning on not getting close to him, she still doesn’t want to hurt his feelings. Yes, Echo actually doesn’t want to hurt his feelings. She has no idea why, but she just doesn’t. If she pretends to not hear him, it shouldn’t affect him as much, right?
The short brunette feels him leave her side in defeat. She knows it’s defeat because when she looks into his eyes when she is telling them to stand however they want, she sees hurt. Being an artist, Echo can see feelings by looking into the eyes. It doesn’t matter how hard they try to hide it. It’s her job to recreate people and emotions. Her trained eyes can see the feelings of others, and right now, she has to try to hide the same feeling in her eyes.
Echo makes sure that everything is set up before starting to sketch out their bodies. Her hand moves the pencil around the canvas in different angles and movements. Slowly, their shapes are created. The artist leaves Niall for last. She doesn’t really want to look at him right now, but she has to. She frowns in her mind as his imagine starts to be created. Luckily, she doesn’t have to recreate that look in his eyes. She’s just making an outline. Her brown eyes won’t have to look into his blue ones until she actually paints them.
When break finally starts, the short teen is relieved. She couldn’t really take looking at him. Of course, that just means that she’s closer to painting those sad eyes. That part gets her down. “Just don’t think about it, Echo.” That’s what she keeps telling herself. “He isn’t anything to you. Whatever you’re feeling will just go away if you ignore it, if you ignore him. Besides, you have to prove to Coral that there are no feelings. You can’t get attached, but what if I want to? What if I want him there because he takes away that longing to paint the taht picture? You need to stop confusing yourself. You don’t want anything to do with him. You don’t know what these feelings are. I do want something to do with him. I want him to take away that longing, and I may know what this is, but I’m scared.”
Echo shakes her head. She starting to feel like a mad person.
Her brown eyes just happen to glance over at Niall. The guys are talking to him. He’s smiling. Well, that’s good. Oh no. The blond notices her and makes his way over to her. Echo quickly grabs her sketchbook out of her bag. She grabs a HB pencil and opens up the sketchbook. He sits down next to her, and Echo realizes that she opened up to the picture of him. Is he looking at it? Did he even see it? The artist flips to a new page as fast as she can in hope that he didn’t see it. However, she sees him smirk out of the corner of his mouth. Of course he had to see. Of course her life as to be like this. Doesn’t anything go right?
Echo sighs quietly and starts to sketch the first thing that comes to her head. It’s a cat. Well, this is different. The artist almost never draws cats. It must have been because Coral mentioned one of her friends on their way there. She said something about her friend being jealous that she doesn’t get to meet One Direction and ask them if they would be cats with her. Coral’s friend seems to be rather weird. Hasn’t Coral mentioned her before? Oh yes, she has. Her name is Wakana Miyamoto, and she’s a Japanese singer. Apparently, she isn’t famous enough to have gotten the chance to meet them or something like that. She’s rather new in the music world. Plus, she does more J-rock.
The teen keeps thinking about anything and everything besides what is going on now. The cat is finished when it’s time to continue with picture of the guys. They get back into position, and the artist starts to paint them. Again she leaves Niall for last. When she looks into his eyes, she doesn’t see that sadness. He has a smug look on his face. Great. He definitely saw that picture. She doesn’t know what he could be thinking, but it couldn’t be anything good for her. Maybe it was a bad idea to ignore him altogether. Maybe she should have told the truth to Coral.
No, that would have been even worse.
The rest of the day goes by nicely. Echo does her best to ignore Niall. Of course she can’t help but think of him. When she finishes the painting, she hands it to Coral and starts to put her stuff away. Paint bottles start to go into the bag. Slowly, they all start to disappear into the black bag.
Echo forgets about everything around her and just works on cleaning it all up. She picks up the palette to take to the sink and bumps into someone. Colors find their way onto her best outfit and onto the white shirt of the boy that she ran into. She looks up to find that that boy is none other than Niall. She looks down again at the paint. Of course something like this had to happen.
Niall quickly takes the palette out of her hands. “I am so sorry,” he tells her. “I shouldn’t have snuck up behind you like that.”
“It’s fine,” Echo mumbles. Well, now she’s going to have to talk to him.
“No, it’s not. That’s a really cute top, and now there is paint all over it. Em...” He looks around and picks up his jacket. The blond gives it the to girl. “Take your shirt off and put this on.”
“Why?”
“Well, if you do, I’ll take your shirt to get washed. I could see if anyone can clean it.”
“It’s acrylic paint. It won’t come out.”
“Can I at least try?”
Echo thought about it for a minute before sighing. “All right. You can try. It won’t work though.”
The artist takes his jacket and goes into the bathroom. There, she takes off her stained top and puts on his jacket. It smells a bit like his cologne, but it isn’t that strong. It also feels weird to wear a jacket without a top on. She’s fine with it though especially if he somehow manages to get the stains out. That would be amazing.
Once it’s on, she leaves the small room with her shirt in hand and hands it to him. She finishes putting all of her stuff together. Everyone leaves with Echo behind. Coral is in the front talking with Louis. Of course that’s fine with the artist. She’s not in the mood to talk anyway. She makes her way out of the door to find someone waiting for her. It’s pretty obvious who it is. The blond starts walking with her.
“I am really sorry about getting paint on your shirt.”
“It’s fine, and you’re already going to attempt to get it out.”
He turns his head away from her with his cheeks a little bit warm. “Em, do I get anything if it does come out.”
She stops in her tracks. “What do you mean?”
He stops and faces her, but his eyes don’t look at hers. “Em, maybe we can go out to get something to drink. I don’t know.”
“Sure.”
A smile makes its way onto his face. He doesn’t know what else to say, so he continues on his way with Echo right behind him. They leave, and Echo is back home. She sits down and thinks about how the day went. It could have went worse now that she thinks about it. Of course there is still that something that she agreed to.
It doesn’t really matter, does it? There is no way that he’s going to get those stains out. She’s never been able to do it. Yes, she has nothing to worry about. Nope, nothing at all.

Notes

I'm so sorry this is really late.
I wonder what's going to happen...

@Makenzie Horan
Writing the thoughts of a character and how they really are is one of my favorite things to do. It's just that I feel it's my writing at it's best.
I did that on purpose. It's just that a lot of stories have the characters do self-harm. Although I completely understand it in real life (for personal reasons that deal with my life and my friends), I don't like it in the writing world. It's the same with a character forgetting everything. I've seen it way to many times. That's why I always try to write something different. I'd only ever write something if it was done differently like with my first story on mibba. (It wasn't my best, but it was the start.)
Thanks for commenting, and I'm glad you liked it. :) :) :) :)
