Silence and Sound

Chapter 1: E. O'Connell

The brush comes in contact with the canvas. Yellow goes onto pure white as the short brunette starts to paint the image again. The utensil finds its way back into the paint before going back. Slowly the image starts to come to life. Every stroke tells the tale all over again. A tear falls down her round and young face. The teen doesn’t even bother wiping it away. Crying doesn’t affect her anymore. As long as no one sees them fall, she’s fine.
Caramel eyes stare at her latest masterpiece. It’s just how it was on that day. She can feel herself travelling back. The waves ripple, and the sun is high in the sky. Time ticked as she waited for the perfect picture to be created. She waited as the yellow orb started to go down. She waited too long, and time ran out.
A blinking light takes her away from her sorrowful thoughts. She sees it out of the corner of her eye. Her head turns towards her purse to find her blinking phone next to it. Her paint splattered hands pick up the stained towel before getting as much yellow and blue off that she can. When her hands are decent, she finally picks up her phone and puts the password in. The brunette finds that her manager has texted her. It’s probably about another job. She has been getting a lot lately.

Coral: Oi! I got you a fantastic job! You won’t believe who it is!

EO: Who? You normally don’t get so excited.

Coral: One Direction!

EO: Never heard of them.

Coral: They are the biggest boy band! How can you not have heard of them?!

EO: Heard.

Coral: Oh, I see what you did there. You and your jokes. I’m emailing you the information now. I still can’t believe it! I’m going to meet One Direction, and you’re going to paint them! I’m so proud of you! This is every artist’s dream!

EO: So I’m not suppose to be dreaming about potatoes? I thought that was normal...

Coral: You’re always so silly. The boys will love you.

EO: I just have one serious question.

Coral: If it’s about your identity, don’t worry. They will sign a simple contract, and that will be in it. You will carefully be escorted in. In fact, the public doesn’t even know about the paintings. By the time they are released, everyone will have forgotten about the girl that met up with them. Your identity will be safe. P.S. Sorry about the long text.

EO: It’s fine. I don’t care as long as my identity stays a secret. They can know just like my other clients, but that’s it. I hate being the center of attention.

Coral: We even have a place for everyone to meet for every day of the week.

EO: Wait. How many do they want? Are they going to actually model? Normally, they don’t.

Coral: They will be modelling. I know that they will at least for individual portraits. I’ll need to look at the number, but it’s probably a lot. All I know is they have a month off for you to do this. Is that OK?

EO: It’s fine. I’m not complaining. You’re my manager. I’m sure you have my schedule open.

Coral: That I do. This month was open anyway. There are only a couple of appointments. Those days would be useful for rest days for the boys. Do you mind if you start today? They’re free.

EO: Sure. You can pick me up at my studio. I’m here already. I didn’t go back to my flat last night.

Coral: I’ll be right over. Get your stuff ready!

The short teen sighs before going over and picking out five canvases in different sizes. She figures that that way they can pick out what size they want for some of the paintings. After she puts the canvases by her purse, she grabs the handle of her portable art set and rolls it over with everything else. That should be all she needs, so she starts to get dressed.
A slightly nicer flannel shirt replaces her paint covered one. Black TOMS cover her feet since she’s already got some paint on them. Sky blue splatter the black. She puts a grey hoodie on and notices a couple of spots of yellow. Oh well. The brunette is not dressing to impress. Finally she ties up her hair up the best you can when it’s medium length before putting on a beanie and sunglasses.
The short and perfectly curvy teen glances at her phone. The blue light is blinking. Coral is probably waiting outside. She picks up the phone and looks. Yeah, she’s outside. The brunette grabs her stuff and heads out the door. She spots the black car and gets into the passenger seat after putting her equipment in the backseat.
Coral Bosley has coral hair that she wears in pigtails. Although it looks unprofessional, the manager considers it her trade mark. She says it’s just like Pink has pink hair, but Coral is her real name. The brunette has tried to tell her friend that there is a difference as in Pink is a singer and not a manager. However, Coral just brushes her off and says that they both deal with art since music is art. Besides the hair, she’s dressed in the normal attire, a black suit. She really likes wearing black. Her eyes are hazel, and she is about the same build as the brunette.
Brown eyes watch as Coral turns the volume up and starts to sing along. This is probably One Direction. She’s bobbing her head to the music and smiling. Inside she frowns. The thing she does do is smile at the sight.
“I see that you painted your nails. Emerald really suits your eyes,” she tells her manager. Coral nods her head in thanks before going back to her music.
The brunette turns her attention to the window. You never know when you might get inspiration. Just because she mostly paints the same image doesn’t mean that she doesn’t get inspired to paint other pictures. Her fingers play with the silver locket around her neck. She doesn’t realize she’s doing this. It’s a habit. The brunette always does this when she’s thinking. Ever since she was little she has done this.
The car finally stops. The artist doesn’t even bother looking at it, she just gets out and grabs her stuff. Coral gives her a smile before helping her carry the canvases and leading her inside. They make their way over to the elevator and get in. The manager presses the button to go up. When they reach the right floor, they get out and walk over to the door. Inside are five young men. The two girls make their way into the room and over to them. Now the brunette can get a clear image of all of them.
The one with the blue eyes that have an interesting shape has what looks like soft brown hair. It’s the kind of hair that you just want to run your fingers through. Of course, the brunette would never do that. She’ll just paint it and draw it. It will be interesting drawing the shape of his eyes. He’s dressed in a blue jean jacket, a grey T-shirt, and black jeans.
There is one with very curly brown hair. He’s probably the one that Coral has mentioned to her about. One day she was told about how this curly band member was putting his hair up instead of down. The artist figures that he must be the guy. His eyes are an interesting green. They’re green, but the light shining in them almost make them look like they could be teal. He’s also lanky, and he’s wearing a long sleeve button up shirt with some kind of pattern on it, really tight black skinny jeans, and black ankle boots. He also has a headband in his hair.
The one next to him is muscular with brown hair that is shaved on the sides and with a quiff. His eyes are brown, and he is wearing a plaid button-up shirt with a white tank top, dark skinny jeans, and basketball sneakers. The artist isn’t too fond of muscles, but in her career, she gets stuck doing it. It appears that she’ll probably have to do that again with these boys. Oh well, it could always be worse. She does have some standards after all.
The one with a little bit darker skin has very dark hair and brown eyes. The brunette feels like she’s going to like making his skin color. He’s wearing a comic book T-shirt, black skinny jeans, and converse. Luckily, the artist is good with cartoons and comic books because she just has this feeling in her gut that he’s going to be wearing a lot of shirts like that.
The only blond of the group looks rather adorable. She feels like he’s going to be fun to paint. She’s always liked cute things, and damn, he’s cute. He looks like a puppy. His hair is up and the roots are brown, and he has beautiful blue eyes that look like water. She shakes the idea out of her head before continuing to examine him. He’s wearing a white T-shirt, jeans, and white basketball shoes. The artist doesn’t think that he’ll be hard to paint except that he’s cute. No, she needs to stop thinking like that. Just because she acts like she likes people doesn’t mean that she actually does. She doesn’t want anyone in her life. The only reason that she lets Coral believe that she’s her friend is because she doesn’t like being a bitch and she’s stuck with her anyway.
“Where’s E. O’Connell?” the curly haired one asks. “Was he not able to make it or something?”
“Actually,” Coral says, “this is Echo O’Connell.”
“Wait, so E.O. is a girl?” is the only one that Echo can catch because all of them are talking. She tries to look at all of their lips, but she just can’t.
“Guys,” the coral haired girl says, “you can’t all talk at the same time, and slow down.”
“Why?” the guy with the interestingly shaped eyes asks.
“Because Echo is deaf.”

Writing the thoughts of a character and how they really are is one of my favorite things to do. It's just that I feel it's my writing at it's best.
I did that on purpose. It's just that a lot of stories have the characters do self-harm. Although I completely understand it in real life (for personal reasons that deal with my life and my friends), I don't like it in the writing world. It's the same with a character forgetting everything. I've seen it way to many times. That's why I always try to write something different. I'd only ever write something if it was done differently like with my first story on mibba. (It wasn't my best, but it was the start.)
Thanks for commenting, and I'm glad you liked it. :) :) :) :)
