Lana's POV

The Next Day

I woke abruptly as the teacher slammed my report on my desk. My heart was beating so fast that I was afraid it was going to pop right out of my chest and it took me a few minutes to recover.

"You're report on Soil Conservation was exceptional." She smiled. I returned the favor and looked down at my paper which had a fat A+ written in red on it. I can't believe I actually got a good grade on this. I stayed up all night the day before it was due, cramming to get this ready in time.

The sound of the bell jolted me out of my thoughts and I gathered my bag quickly and darted out the door. School was always the same boring routine. The only thing I looked forward to was seeing Mark after school everyday. But since he had to trade another employee for a different shift, he hasn't been home lately. Sometimes I wish we could just forget everything and move to some small island.

I decided to skip the last period and head home. I have a major test tomorrow and I haven't studied at all. If I want to pass the class, I'm going to need as much study time as I can.

Once I got home, I tossed my bag on the ground and sighed as I saw Mark lying on the couch asleep. One arm was extended over his head and the other one was laying on his chest. I sighed and grabbed the blanket off of the back of the couch, draping it over his body. He actually looked content and I didn't want to ruin that.

I walked upstairs and changed into something more comfortable since I was going to study in Central Park. I've always loved that place and I usually go there when I need some time alone.

Kissing Mark on the cheek, I grabbed my bag off the ground and walked towards my car. I shoved the key into the ignition and turned it forward impatiently. A smile covered my face as the car lurched foward and I gazed out the window as the tall buildings of New York passed by in a blur.

As I was driving, I felt my phone vibrate in my jeans. Still keeping my eyes on the road, I grabbed my phone off the seat and turned on the phone.

Where are you?

To: Leah :)
I'm going to central park to study?

It took a few minutes for her to respond.

From: Leah :)
Okay, I have a surprise for you ;)

I didn't respond to her text instead shutting off my phone. I don't know what kind of surprise she has in store for me but ever since the incident last night, we've been distant. We've spoken little to each other and I hate to say it but we're drifting apart. And to be honest, it's scaring the hell out of me.

Harry's POV

"Where are we going?" Louis groaned as we walked down the streets of New York. Simon said it would be nice to 'get some fresh air' instead of being cooped up in the hotel room but frankly I'd seriously rather be playing video games.

"Central Park." Liam answered, clearly annoyed by Louis' annoying questions. We walked in silence and soon a couple of girls started to notice us. Great. We're going to get mobbed. Again.

"We should go get some lunch." Niall suggested. But I wasn't listening to him. I squinted my eyes over the horizon as I saw the familiar locks of blonde hair. My pace quickened as I basically ran to her. The boys struggled to keep up and by the time one of them caught up to me, they were out of breath.

"Dude, where the hell are you going?" Zayn breathed out. I glanced back at Lana and thought about what would happen if the boys saw her too. They'd probably scare her half to death and then she wouldn't want to talk to me anymore.

"I'll, um, be right back." I started walking in her direction without bothering to hear their answer. I rounded the bench that she was sitting on and slid next to her. I leaned over and cleared my throat in her ear, startling her. She dropped her textbook and her papers went everywhere.

"Oh my god- Oh hey Harry." She smiled when she realized it was me. I reached down to help her collect her books and the moment our hands touched accidentally, she jerked it away. Her face flushed with red and her eyes suddenly became interested in the ground.

"Sorry to scare you, love." I apologized. She waved it off with her hand and smiled sincerely at me. Her brown eyes pierced right through mine as if she was trying to figure me out.

"So what are you doing?" I asked her. She shrugged her shoulders and stared at her open text book.

"I have a test tomorrow and I'm trying to study." A pang of guilt over took me when I realized that she was trying to study and I interrupted her.

"It's fine though," She said quickly. "It's not like I'm going to pass anyway." I was going to try to comfort her but then I heard the annoying voices of my bandmates.

"Harry!" Louis called. I cursed under my breath and turned around to see the four guys walking towards me.

"Who's this lovely lady?" Niall asked, trying to turn on his charm. I rolled my eyes as Lana's face grew darker and darker by each word.

"This is Lana."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is Lana? The Lana? Aww man, this dude talks about you. Alot!" Louis said. I widened my eyes at his comment and I could also feel my face become red. Note to self: Never talk to this girl when the guys are around.

She laughed nervously. "Oh... Well anyways I have to go." She gathered her stuff and stood up, making sure not to make eye contact with us.

"Bye guys." She smiled, revealing her deep dimples like mine. She tucked her hair behind her ear and waved goodbye to us. I watched as she walked out the park and stepped into the car. As soon as she was out of sight, I elbowed Louis in the ribs. Hard.

"What?" He complained rubbing his new sensitive spot. I ignored his question and instead focused on Lana. Her gorgeous brown eyes, her blonde hair. The way she always smelt like a vanilla cappuccino. Even though she had a boyfriend, I was going to make it my mission to get to know her.
