101 Reasons To Hate Butterflies
Chapter 6
Daniel's POV:
There had been a weird set back, and all the teachers had to go to a staff meeting that was in the morning.
Because of this, our school day started late and our classes were shorter and pushed back.
But when I woke up Thursday, I already had plans on my mind.
It was my little sister's birthday and I had already planned where we were going to go to brunch.
The place we were going to was a little while away, but if we left at 9 we could make it in time for the reservation.
Laura was turning 5.
I smiled just thinking about it.
It was nearly 8:50 in the morning.
I saw her run down our hallway in the cutest little outfit.
She had always supported me. She would never know, but the message she got from all the Disney princess movies really helped me through rough times when she recited them back to me.
And of course she loved Jacob when all that happened.
She even tried to convince my dad that I should be able to love everybody. And I'll always remember that she did that.
She was the reason my dad stopped yelling.
I swore that day that I'd never let anyone hurt her. I swore that no "icky boy" would ever bend her heart, let alone break it.
Her pig tails bounced as she ran down the hall. "Alright kiddo, you ready?!"
"Ready!" She said. Arms open and ready to be picked up.
We walked out to my car and I buckled her into the back. I sat upfront and put the keys in the ignition. I pulled out of the drive way, and we took off. She had mentioned and hinted at how much she loved pancakes all week, and I figured that I should take her to the International House Of Pancakes.
Or, you know, The glory that is IHOP.
The car ride was long but Laura had seemingly found an endless supply of ways to get me going.
"Are we thereeeee yet?"
"No. Almost...I think...!"
"Daniel?"
"Yeah?"
"What happened to Jacob?"
I took my eyes off the rode for a second, "My Jacob?"
She nodded.
How should I put this? Does she even know what she's asking? She was very smart for her age but I couldn't be so sure... "I stopped hanging out with him like that."
"How come?"
"We became different people and we became less...compatible." I tried to think of a different word but I couldn't.
"Did you like him?"
"I did, yeah."
"Do you like him now?"
"Not the way I used to..."
"Did you love him?"
"...I thought I did.."
"Daniel?"
"Yeah, Laura?"
"You didn't love him like you love me."
It took me a second to get what she was saying. And even after I did, I didn't believe it.
"What was that?"
"You didn't love him like you love me."
I took a deep breath "No, I didn't sweetie.."
"There was this boy at preschool yesterday and he said he liked boys and the other boys s-started making fun of him and I said my brother liked boys too and then-" Laura started crying.
"Hey hey, don't do that, why are you crying?"
"I-I feel bad because they will n-never understand love."
I smiled and patted her back. "It's okay sweetie, they just have a different concept of it. Everyone does." Her sobbing let up a little and she forced a small mumble out of mouth.
"D-Daniel.?"
"Yes Laura?" She sniffles a little.
"What happened to Kelly?"
I swallowed, "Uhm, she and I also stopped hanging out."
"Why?"
"Because we..uhm..." I stopped myself and tried a different approach. "Do you make pinky promises?"
"Yes!"
"Well you would be mad if someone broke your pinky promise right? Because its not just any old promise, it's a pinky one."
"Yeaa."
"Well she broke a very important one. One that meant we would stop hanging around."
That makes sense, right? I didn't want to confuse her.
"Is she alright?"
"Yes."
"Is her pinky okay?"
chuckled out a smile. "Yes."
We pulled up to our last red light before the restaurant. Laura kept asking me questions, though none of them were as deep as the first few she asked. It was interesting, for someone her age. I was proud to call her my sister.
Harry's POV:
Thursday came around sooner then I had hoped. And on its dawn, I woke up. It was around 4:50am in the morning.
I had to shower, finish packing, and then be at the airport by 6. The flight left at 7am.
We were all meeting up at the airport, which would then fly is to California to kick story the tour. We would land around 1am. It was an American Tour that I was particularly excited for.
After we land, we check into a hotel and we get to sleep. Our first tour performance is in San Francisco. And although the idea of the American concert got me more than thrilled, this morning I was sleepy.
I was not happy.
I was not a morning person.
At all.
It was about 5:10am when I got into the taxi that would hopefully take me to the airport. I arrived on time to the airport. Although a major part of me wished we ran into traffic so I could've slept more than I already did in the car. When I arrived, I was greeted by Louis.
"Hey! Harry!"
"Hey Lou." My smile grew meeting him.
"Are you ready for this tour?"
I laughed. "What a generic question."
"An answer and the same question in return would've been what I was going for but yes, I'm ready. I said my goodbyes and whatnot so bring it on."
"America, Lou. That's a big place."
"Yeah. The colonies!"
I chuckled He grabbed my shoulder and shock me.
"Get excited, Styles!"
It had been only maybe five minutes until Zayn came over and greeted me as well. He had been talking to management when I entered the airport. We all talked about our tour hopes and expectations of the tour.
Liam came next.
Followed by Niall.
And eventually we were all just hanging around talking. Niall and Louis agreed on everything and Zayn seemed distracted. After a while of talking, management called us over and told us our flight was boarding.
The guys went first as I excused myself to go to the bathroom. I didn't have to go, but I kinda just wanted to say a last goodbye to it all. It'd be a while until I was back.
I looked around at all the busy people, rushing and waiting around the airport. I took a deep breath and sighed. The next thing I knew, I was on a custom design 757 to Cali.
The jet was beautiful. I had flown in it for a hundred times but it still shocked me with its elegance. When you walk in the galley, there is a doorway that takes you to the first class sleeper area. Each leather sleeper seat has audio visual system, including a tv. As you continue to walk, you come across is a dining and then the main lounge. The main lounge has a theatre-like set up, preset with all our favourite movies. There's a bathroom with a shower and in the very back there's a VIP lounge, made for just us lads.
But today when I got on, I didn't really feel like saying much. Jetting to places was pretty normal, and so was talking amongst the the group and each other. But today, I didn't feel quite talkative. I put on my beats and and plugged it into my phone.
There wasn't much to do that I hadn't already done on the jet either. I figured I could just take a nap. When I woke up, I checked the window. We were still in the air. My volume on my phone was low, and I skipped back about 10 songs until I found the song I had played when I fell asleep.
Maybe, about, a 30 minute nap?
I took my headphones out. I shot a glance over at Zayn. It didn't take long for him to feel my stare and return it.
"How much longer?" I mouthed to him.
He held up his hand and shook it in a pinky-down-thumb-up sort of rhythm and mouthed back "25?" 25 minutes. Give or take a little. I sighed and put my headphones back on. I turned up the volume so I could hear it.
Mirrors - Justin Timberlake.
Liam got me into it. He had it on repeat for a few days or so and I couldn't help but like it.
Justin Timberlake was a legend.
But hey, that was just my opinion. Time kept ticking by, and eventually our jet came to a holt. We all simultaneously exchanged glances from our seats. I stretched and shook myself off. We formed a messy line as the jet door opened up.
Hello, San Fransisco.
